This bridge gave a good view of passing freights on the West London line. Neil
  2. Yep,exactly like that!! Very atmospheric picture, could be 5530 or 5536 just in shot too...Any more pictures in due course would be great,as would the contents of your spotting books!! Neil
  3. I've used some of the Hydraulic class designations for my lottery numbers since it started. Guess what? I'm still having to work..... Neil
  4. I was a 12 year old urchin whose money went on watching QPR and/or spotting trips to the London termini and the like.Did you take any Warship pictures that day,and do you still have a record of what you saw...??? Neil
  5. Cracking shot Mike. I have D1057 logged at Southall on 7 4 71,and at Ealing Broadway the day after. A further sight of Chieftan was on the occasion of the Reading depot open day on 19 6 71.Of course,to my young eyes back then,it was just another Western.Wish I could remember more of those times.... Neil

  7. Hi Neil, 22 looking good.I have done the same repaint myself,a bit tricky getting the yellow panel square with all the bits on front of loco. What a difference a repaint makes to the rather insipid Dapol blue. Will you be adding some coolant streaks from the fan area? Will look forward to seeing your D6.. Neil

  11. Indeed it was! I used to see the real thing far too often, good to see it in model form! Will look forward to another instalment at Nottingham Neil
  12. Hi Phil, Great to meet you and Neil at Newbury on Saturday. No doubt a lot of hard work for you to transport and set up for a one-day show. Abbotswood is a top layout, with terrific loco's and stock, keep up the good work! Neil
  13. My parents retired to Chandlers Ford, and upon visiting them and exploring the area I was amazed to come across the Mainly Trains emporium in the precinct. I bought lots of stuff there, admittedly all r-t-r,and the service was always friendly and helpful. All the best to the owners in their retirement.
  14. Regarding Newbury-likewise! Thanks for the paint info.Look forward to seeing the result. Give the lad a break...!

  16. Hello Phil, Will be paying a visit to Newbury, easy for me to get to.And,with all the additions to your fleet, better bring my Combined Volume... So Jimbo (your son?) gets out of his sick bed and is forced into the spray booth immediately-it's a harsh regime at your place... Huffkins in Burford-a Chipping Norton set hang-out..?? Can I ask what colour/paint manufacturer you used for D864's u/frame please? I have one to do myself. Cheers, Neil
  17. Any Zambesi update Phil? btw,is your appearance(and presumably Abbotswood) at Newbury next month still happening? Neil
  18. Evening John, Yep,a double header would look good, would remind me of seeing them belting through Southall when I were t'lad... I tried the Craftsman conversion a while ago, went at it like a bull in a china shop and the donor Mainline 42 was a write off.Lesson learned.Had one more Mainline left,so tried again.Took a lot more time, checking cut on front as I went, and it has panned out quite well. It's in u/coat till I get a can of diesel green, will be D811.The extra lamp on the nose needs careful lining up. A fiver? Can't go wrong!! Will you use Mainline or Bachmann for yours? Neil
  19. Yep,remember it now,and being pleased with a really decent Warship model. As said previously, would like to know in the fullness of time how you motorise Hermes! Neil
  20. Hi Phil, That jogged my memory,I did have a couple of those way back when.Think I had a green one,Highflyer maybe? A great model for it's day.. Neil
  21. Neil, Thanks for the info. A DVD motor sounds intricate! I was wondering if the current R/Road motor bogie might fit. I took my time with the Craftsman disc h/c fitting,it's panned out ok. My plan is to use a D804 model for a 2nd conversion, even though the Mazak curse has struck, although not too badly. Second hand traders still seem to ask for daft prices for Mainline 42's... Didn't know the Hermes crest was available, could be one on the to do list.. Neil
  22. Hi Neil, The Mainline Warship looks good, does it have the ship's crest? I have backdated an ancient Mainline Warship to disc headcode configuration.Needless to say,the motor packed up years ago.Do you have any ideas/advice on how to motorise it,what do you have in mind for yours? Cheers, Neil.
  23. Just realised-you said you are doing Zambesi in it's first BR blue version. So my comment is not very relevant-sorry...!!
  24. Hi Phil, I expect you have this book in your collection, but in "Heyday of theWarships" there is a (great) picture of Zambesi at Old Oak Common, dated 10 1 71. The MU equipment is still in place, but as the caption states, unlikely to be still in working order at that stage. As regards the brown underframe, the picture shows various colours in that area, and probably lots of dirt. Your workshop has it's work cut out! Neil
