  1. I ordered a copy of "60 ans de compositions de trains de nuit français" (it is reduced in price https://trains.lrpresse.com/A-14051-60-ans-de-compositions-de-trains-de-nuit-francais.aspx). In this book clearly is shown the SNCF 4-wheel fourgon with birdcage in the Night Ferry composition of the French side of the Channel for 1951-1952. So this was not completely correctly copied in the book Ferry Boat de Nuit 1936-1980. The book however does not mention a BR van. Regards Fred
  2. In the book Ferry Boat de Nuit 1936-1980 of the International Railway Preservation Society chapter 17 contains the formation of the Night Ferry (which are taken from the book "60 Ans de composition de Train de nuit français"). In 1951-1952 a fourgon of the type Dqyd2mg is listed (where q is vigie centrale (central birdcage) and y is with bogies) and a fourgon of the type Dqd2mg is shown. Something wrong there, but I assume it is the Dqd2mg since that is the one I have and I have never seen a bogie van on any Night Ferry picture. Regards Fred
  3. There is no scale length CIWL car made by Lima. Most earlier Lima models are not based on a CIWL prototype at all! The modern Lima sleeper is based on the CIWL type MU but should be 30 cm and is only 26 cm. See here a comparison between a correct length ACME (bottom) and a Lima (top) CIWL MU sleeper: These pictures are from an overview of many CIWL cars I made in an e-book: http://sncf231e.nl/ciwl-carriages-by-fredsmall/ Regards Fred
  4. Some pictures are in the magazine Ferrovissime april 2012: http://fr.1001mags.com/parution/ferrovissime/numero-48-avril-2012/page-30-31-texte-integral http://fr.1001mags.com/parution/ferrovissime/numero-48-avril-2012/page-32-33-texte-integral http://fr.1001mags.com/parution/ferrovissime/numero-48-avril-2012/page-34-35-texte-integral Regards Fred
  5. There were British and French fourgons for the Night Ferry. Some pics of the SNCF Night Ferry fourgon in H0 by MMMRG Darstaed is planning a sleeper and fourgon (Southern Railway version) in 0 gauge: https://www.darstaed.com/products_DCH7a.html Regards Fred
  6. The LS Models CIWL Night sleeper coaches (the so called type F CIWL sleeper) as mentioned here above are correct. The type F or Night Ferry sleepers were made to run from Paris to London, crossing the channel on a ferryboat. They were smaller than all other CIWL sleepers and had entrance doors only on one end. Lima (or Revell) did not make a type F sleeper. Jouef made one (also available as Playcraft) which is (just) acceptable. An overview of many CIWL cars can be found in an e-book I made on the subject: http://sncf231e.nl/ciwl-carriages-by-fredsmall/ . Top 2 pictures LS Models, next three Jouef: Regards Fred
  7. Since I do like steamliners (streamlined steam locomotives) I do have some in my collection. Two of the most famous ones are the NYC Commodore Vanderbilt and the Milwaukee Hiawatha. This afternoon i had a run with 1 gauge models of these two: Regards Fred
  8. I see your point but will happily leave my track pointless . I have not found anything coarse of fine scale that cannot run on it. Regards Fred
  9. Half an e-book full of LNER Pacifics (the other half is NYC Hudsons), the book can be read or downloaded for free: http://sncf231e.nl/lner-pacifics-and-nyc-hudsons/. Regards Fred
  10. After about a year the Amati kit of the gauge 1 CIWL sleeping car is completed below the roof. Here is a video of the result: Some pictures (more pictures on my website: http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-ciwl-lx-sleeping-car/) Regards Fred
  11. I have never considered any of the Jouef/RivaRossi etc locomotives as a Hornby locomotive. This a is Jouef locomotive: And this is combined French/US Hornby (left (REE right)): I know that the Jouef etc brands are owned by Hornby. By the way Rob, I appreciate very much your pictures! Regards Fred
  12. Maybe you are better of on a model engineering forum: https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/ Regards Fred
  13. I wouldn't know (and I have searched) a continental shop for Lionel and MTH with reasonable prices. So I buy (from the continent) directly from the US at C.T. McCormick Hardware http://www.cttrains.com/index.htm Regards Fred
  14. A picture would help but I assume that you have a number of coaches in so called POP colours: http://www.railfaneurope.net/liveries/popcolours.html The blue first and green second are indeed earlier but there was certainly an overlapping period. Combining Silberlingen with other colours is also prototypical. Regards Fred
  15. After 6 years and also caused by the happening around BigBoy 4014 it was time to have a run with my 1 gauge ASTER live steam BigBoy 4002 again. Regards Fred
  16. I am undecided about the best Hornby coaches, This one: Or this: Regards Fred
  17. I added doors, steps and handrails: More pictures here: http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-ciwl-lx-sleeping-car/ Regards Fred
  18. Built in 1902 for the Staatsspoorwegen in Netherlands: This is an 0 gauge model (by Philotrain):
  19. In "Russian Steam Locomotives" (only) one Russian 4-8-2 is mentioned. A Tsjech 476.0 Class 4-8-2 built in 1951 was presented to the Sovjet Union as a token of Friendship. It had no further classification but the name "DRUG" (Russian for Friend). Regards Fred
  20. I added the end walls: And then had a run in the garden with a train to which the Amati sleeping car can be added when or if it is ever finished and is able to run: Regards Fred
  21. And now, the outer wall on the compartment side (with details inside the outer wall, such as folding tables and clothes hooks) is also assembled and put on: Is he going to pull the emergency brake handle? Many more pictures on my website: http://sncf231e.nl/amati-kit-for-a-ciwl-lx-sleeping-car/ Regards Fred
  22. It looks like the Caley 123 is an 0 gauge model and not 1 gauge like the trains in my video. I recognise the 0 gauge coaches which are made by ACE. I have 2 of these: Regards Fred
  23. This afternoon I tried to re-enact in my garden a Race to the North in live steam gauge 1 with a Stirling Single and a Precedent class: As far as I know LNWR Hardwicke was indeed in this race but not Stirling Single No 1 but another Stirling Single, But the locomotives run fast enough not to see the number Regards Fred
