  1. Actually I think you’ll find it’s the prototype APT before Derby got to it Actually I think you’ll find it’s the prototype APT before Derby got to it

    Oxford N7

Its slightly strange that I’m getting very interested in this model. As a life long Southern modeller the N7 was on the horizon but not a priority, but reading how good it is plus the reasonable price I’m having resurrecting thoughts of the Mersea island branch that I dallied with long long ago
  3. Honestly I’ll be buying both the LSWR and BR versions of both!
  4. An interesting announcement my dad used to work in one of the depots near Portsmouth and was occasionally able to get me a pass to the museum there. We of course noted the railway stuff and the variety of locos and stock both standard and narrow gauge was amazing. So yes now I’m thinking of an RNAD layout
  5. As the LNs are a personal fav I’ll be getting both, please include my wallet in your thoughts and prayers
  6. Actually the GBLs got about a lot especially in BR days. I believe they were seen as far afield as Glasgow and Newcastle
  7. Regarding the ‘off the wall’ suggestions has anyone thought that we may be seeing a live steam oo gauge engine? I seem to recall that Hornby did a live steam A4 about 20 years ago and possibly consider the time is right to reintroduce it suitably updated
  8. Looking very nice, am I mistaken but weren’t the H2s regular visitors to Branksome shed in the 50s on the Brighton-Bournemouth service
  9. Similar Dilemma here. The head says get a BR black version as some worked in Southampton docks and would match the rest of the collection, but Poitiers looks very nice and a Terrier in improved engine green would be a nice match and the H1 looks georgous etc etc. And FYI the last loco painted from engine green to umber was a Billington radical tank in 1917!
  10. Well I got the email this morning saying mine is on it’s way, I must admit I’m very excited to see what it and may just treat myself to another!
  11. Many thanks Martin I owe you the alcoholic beverage of your choice if we ever meet!
  12. Many thanks for this a most useful resource. I dont suppose you have the South Western working notice?
  13. Try E Bay, but they’re rare and go quickly
  14. Going back to Winkworth (Southern Titled Trains) it appears 1947 was not a year when the Restaurant cars worked through to Padstow. Up until 1939 the ACE Padstow portion during the summer timetable showed a 4 car dining set. After the outbreak of hostilities the restaurant potion was cut out at Exeter, the through set was reintroduced running through to Padstow again in 1948!
  15. Actually on Summer Saturdays there would be through restaurant car expresses to both Ilfracombe and Padstow and return
  16. I have to agree that most of the Triangl/ Dublo releases from the early mid 60s have been covered recently, as for newly tooled singles IMHO they’d sell like hot cakes. Even myself, a convinced southern enthusiast would fall for a Dean single and number 123. As for an L1 I would be very down for an L (some of them were based at Eastleigh in the early 50s), but I’m hoping some eastern section experts could answer wether an L1 could also be the base for E1/D1 models?
  17. If only the mod l looked this good!
  18. Well I’ve pre ordered a green example, even though I believe sunshine comes soonest in the south it’s an attractive engine and I’ll just run a ‘funny’ train!
  19. Whilst it’s the wrong section of the SR I’d definitely buy a rake of the sleepers. I just missed a ride on the full size train and I’ve always had a soft spot for “The Ferry”.
  20. Probably is the short answer, on summer Saturdays there were through dining cars to Padstow and Ilfracombe. As for your second question they tended to run as Kitchen/ding firsts with associated open thirds (which Hornsby is also producing).
  21. My local chippy (just round the corner from my local station) was Fryer Tuck
  22. If we’re talking BR days the survivors were mostly confined to the central section. However they were regulars on the Brighton Bournemouth trains and of course they ranged quite freely on specials (there was a nice pic of Beachy Head at Waterloo in a recent magazine).
  23. Not a vintage year from Bachmann but I have to admit the H1 in Marsh umber looks very nice
