  3. Dear All, A question regarding repainting the Dapol Terrier?. Anyone with any experiences, I have heard there is a problem directly painting on the Dapol varnished finish ie paint doesn't adhere so well?.... Before I embark I'd appreciate any advice please Best wishes Michael
  4. Afternoon Tim,and thank you, yes I've hardwired the Jinty, but I'm sure I can set it for dc I think it's the ct elektronik DCX77L if anyone knows????,and the j39 just can have the blanking plug put back in and it needs needs some LNER regalia don't you think? Best wishes Michael
  5. This was such a useful and helpful thread to refer as I've just done the same thing,I was just wondering which specific replacement coupling rods did you use for the 4f?? Also regarding dcc, I found a noticeable difference after the circuit board was removed for the Jinty, I wonder if doing the same to the j39 and 4f might further improve matters?? Best wishes Michael
  6. Agreed Nick, I wish the coupling rods were a bit thicker as well, but I also found it easier to disconnect the motor get it free running first... Thanks for your comments Best Michael
  7. Finally worked out how to post a video, of the two locos moving
  8. Dear all, I just wanted to post to give anyone else who wants to give 2FS a go some confidence that if I can do it anyone Can! The Jinty conversion works, and following on from threads posted here I am delighted how well it's turned out,I also took all the circuit boards out and hard wired a ct elektronik decoder in the cab,and it runs like a Swiss clock. The j39 simply uses the original farish tender mechanism, turned down wheels.the loco simply replaces the farish wheels with association ones, jinty muffs and gear and replacement coupling rods. Think I need to shorten the gap between tender and loco Though? Has anyone removed the circuit board in these tenders , again a ct elektronik decoder makes such a big difference to the running? But Does it Help removing the circuit board?. But for a first succesful attempt I'm delighted. So anyone thinking about it give it a go,it's very much worth it.... oops I'll get the hang of this, think I've managed to upload a short video????.
  9. That's an interesting option thanks for posting.... I have to say as I'm sure many know already and apologies if it's obvious to say fitting an ct elektronik chip in has transformed the running of the farish motor. Feeling rather chuffed finally getting a working 2mm steam loco moving up and down and running how i had hoped for using the option of an association loco chassis and wheels and the farish tender drive with turned down wheels.... Now what's the shopping list needed for the black5 Chassis? Best wishes Michael
  10. Hello, A question, making my first stab at a replacment chassis, I'm using the j39, but plan to keep the tender drive mechanism ,( any suggestions on a motor replacement to improve on the farish Offering? ) I'm making the replacment loco chassis to basically do what the farish original did but with association wheels etc, Thought this might be a good learning opportunity as well before meddling with gears, maybe next time? Is the secondary inner loco frame essential doing it this Way?. Any tips gratefully recieved. Many thanks Michael
