  1. Well, its only taken at least 7 years, a lot of giving up and putting it away, moving to other scales, a lot of golf! and low and behold I've finally completed the Fairburn conversion and it runs a treat! Bit of tidying up, front steps, some body work coupling etc, but im chuffed! I have to say DCC and stay alive is a revelation to me transforming these little models into running I'd always hoped for. So next challenge is Mr Hunts L&Y 7f - no valve gear!!!!! And of course a little country station as a basis for a layout....... best wishes Michael
  2. Its been a few years, but Im enjoying dusting off the dust of the tool kit and soldering iron and a return to modelling which looks like settling on 2mmfs. I've been busy in the Wagon works and very pleased with how the ex GW brake van etch is turning out. I'm thinking about a 1980's project so took a bit of license with this brake van as a potential departmental vehicle - lets say it had modifications over the years...... But onwards and upwards, its certainly given me the desire and satisfaction to carry on... best wishes Michael IMG_0176.pdf IMG_0178.pdf
  3. Hello , a general question I’d be grateful for some advice with, i have a Dapol class 52 western is like to convert to 2mmfs. For a new fledgling project. The construction looks a little different from earlier models, how does one get the wheels and axles our for turning??? I’m sure it’s quite straightforward but would welcome some pointers please Many thanks
  4. Thank you Steve, the cabs been solved and completed now, the top half is 90% there, it was deduction work with what plans are available, close inspection of the 1/8th model at the NRM built at Bow Works by the apprentices and also seeing the NLR Park tank rusting away at Horsted Keynes on the Bluebell Railway. Its been very rewarding as my first scratch built effort and building it to S7 standards has in fact been easier working from the plans as no compromises for narrower gauges have been necessary. Id encourage anyone to have a go, its amazing what can be done on the kitchen table, ive got no workshop big tools, and lathes. Ive opted to build in pretty much original condition, they were all withdrawn by the mid 1920's so the livery should be black unlined, with red coupling rods and the number plate has been drawn up and will be commissioned as number 113. Its all motorised now thanks to a ABC gearbox and mason motor and runs very nicely,im very pleased...... best wishes Michael
  5. All stations to Poplar!, Ive slowly been working away at the loco, lots of detective work with the original plans and its starting to look the part now, rather pleased at my first attempt at scratchbuilding and enjoying the possibilities that Scale7 gives... best wishes Michael
  6. Afternoon all, progress continues with the new MRC S7 layout "Bow Junction" a slice of the old NLR works in the east end of London in pre-grouping times. The wagon works have been busy with an 1880's dumb buffered wagon as used by a local Caledonian Road coal merchant, along with a works break van. And Bow has its junction, drawn from the works plans, 1:12 turnouts and curved single slip, with a three way added in.... best wishes Michael
  7. Morning all, Ive been working away over the last few months on various things including the launch of the new MRC S7 layout, more to follow on that...... So thought it might be a good idea to have something to run on it, so ended up having a go at scratch building a loco for the first time in this scale, its starting to take shape now. ive really enjoyed working out and solving the problems along the way.. Scale7 it is. Im still looking for any prototype information about the inside of these cabs if anyone can help out?? all best Michael
  8. HI, going back a bit on your thread, what was the thickness of the brass strip you used to make the sub-assemblies of the slip vees and crossings?? many thanks Michael
  9. Hello, Im a bit confused from the online manuals, can someone remind me which cv settings are needed to enable the small n gauge decoders to run well on dc when needed??? many thanks Michael
  10. Thank you so much for your most informative suggestion......
  11. Aternoon all, After a complete repaint into proper Stroudley colours, lots of lining, removal of non original parts, a new crew and whilst waiting for number plates Stepney needs some sound. Can anyone recommend an after sales sound chip and speaker for ease of fitting etc.... Also how does one post a picture the right way up here????? thanks in advance Michael
  12. Thanks Martyn, a picture or your video says it all! Oh my bringing up the subject of track gauge does seem to produce much comment does it not !?!?!? 31.5 rightly fits the bill on so many counts.... best wishes Michael
  13. A Aha ! I see.... You never know there might be some sensible comments, one can always hope Martyn.... So I've just googled, oh my........
  14. Good Morning, Id appreciate some thoughts on the merits of 31.5mm gauge vs. the standard 32mm O gauge fine scale please? Any merits, advantages, disadvantages of both without going into the discussions of S7... many thanks Michael
  15. Fabulous stuff ! Just for fun how do you do a right hand tandem where the principal line is straight and the two diverging routes go off to the right?? All best Michael
  16. Are that might explain it then, I don't have a CAD programme! I really appreciate everyone's help on this Best wishes Michael
  17. Thank you ,but am I being really thick here? I've just got my iPad with me and the download comes as a yahoo mail image that I don't seem to be able to open?? Thanks michael
  18. Dear Simon That's very kind of you,and much appreciated It would certainly be a good start to work out a mirror image Best wishes Michael
  19. Thank you Martin, sadly C&L are out of action at the moment........ best Michael
  20. Dear All, Does anyone have any track templates for a single slip 1:7 ? Also a 3 way tandem type right handed, ideally at 31.5mm gauge but 32mm would also be really helpful. Id be very grateful if anyone is willing to scan something for me, any costs reimbursed.. heres hopeful and thanks in advance Michael
  21. Wonder if anything one can help? Has anyone found a way to make templot available for mac users? Many thanks Michael
  22. Dear All, Im looking at making some track and points for N and was wondering what the smallest rail section is practical on those wheels that have a larger flange depth than the newer UK wheels?? Does anyone have any experience? Does code 40 Flatbottom work or code 55? many thanks In advance Michael
  23. Indeed I couldn't work out why the video I posted of the loco trundling along couldn't be viewed??? Very strange?????
  24. Making progress with mine Nigel, fabulous etching and pleased with the results so far, even though I'm just at the tricky stage now! I just hope it looks as good as yours by the time I'm finished! I went for a different approach,I found it easier to disengage the motor and get the wheels set up and free running and test as much as possible that way,I think I might take the motor out again so I know the valve gear works ok ??? And I better blacken those wheels before I do anymore??? Really enjoying the learning curve of this scale,so fingers crossed I get all those tiny little bits of valve gear in the right place next...... Onwards and upwards Best wishes Michael
