  1. So ! Scunthorpe show was a success ! .

Besides a minor controller failure on Saturday (009 side) and 2 locos failures . We had 2 good days of running the layout. Plenty of wonderful comments. And many friends visiting

Not to mention a steelworkers reunion as such as they gathered around the layout.

Really enjoyed to opportunity to display  the layout on home ground

  2. just received my replacement from Rapido after the first went away, original issues were, damaged smokebox dart , damaged brass smokebox valve, and the chassis rode up and down at the back end

Just tested my replacement, and while the door dart is much better, the smokebox valve is still snapped and barely hanging on, and the chassis, it still raises and lowers slightly at the cab end and seems to have 2 tight spots. if stopped at the wrong position, it wont move off without higher power, initiating a launch !

i see the more i read the more and more it seems to be a problematic chassis that im guessing we will have to live with

with the liveries, has there been any consideration to the brown livery in british rail  ? much like the tramway coaches carried on the Kelvedon and Tollesbury Light Railway ?

Spare operators are all good and well, but:

Operators require feeding. And if attending an away show - accommodation.

All extra expense on the exhibition finances.

you have to bear in mind of course that shows usually set a limited amount, and the shows that i attended with the number of operators was not catered or any lodgings. the majority of the shows i have done are smaller charity type shows,

  5. another thing to add

if you can , always take spare operators ( occasionally even friends) , if not for your own sake , then others. me and 4 friends went to a show at the Yorkshire farming museum, brilliant little show. and i ended up sub contracting my friends to other layouts so they could have lunch breaks.

my other thought is to be able to help others in need with any issues they have come up, i can remember many times at the Gainsborough model railway laid under baseboards during a show, helping out where ever i could

  6. for me, i try to be set up the day before if its on offer, track tested, wagon stock down, and one loco usually stays with the layout thats "trusted" to run. the other locos usually travel with me after the various break ins ive seen.

i carry a spare controller, wire, switches , point motors and tool kit, but if someting fails and i can work around it, id rather do that till the end of the day, and it can make for interesting shunting operations, but so far ive been lucky , it wont last though

  7. Models I'd love to see you produce

Considering you already have a J70 with model rail , and the bogie coaches on the way..... and you announced the skirted 04 will be part of the 04 project....

Can we just add the g15/y6 tram and the 4 wheeled coaches from the wisbech and upwell  ?

Bonus points for the luggage van and brake coach ;)

    Love you guys. !

    Hi there,

The model is progressing in development but the Class 18s have been delayed entering service due to some modifications required so they can 'touch' Network Rail track.

At locations such as Eastleigh or other larger industrial areas (refineries, quarries etc) it may be that while the locomotives spend 90% of their time on private tracks, they may need to draw trains out onto exchange sidings that come under the purview of Network Rail.

It's our understanding that the first few will be entering service in the next month or so, once these modifications are complete.  We have a provisional arrangement to go and film the first two locos when they are deployed and of course once we have some images, footage and more information we will share.

    cheers

    Ben A.

Awesome ben, thankyou for the info on all fronts.
Really looking forward to the model joining the steelworks fleet on plumtree works, will look interesting next to the scunthorpe locos, including the KR Hunslets when they arrive

    +1 for me on Singapore…

a very well travelled loco. I saw it in London at a D Day event I think circa 2004.

i’m not even sure how this loco came back from singapore… afterall it was just a damaged piece of industrial equipment with low value taking space on a highly valuable cargo ship back to the UK, to a country that wasnt exactly short of similar locos.

for those of you who have never heard of singapore and have no idea what were talking about https://www.rocks-by-rail.org/exhibit/hl-3865-singapore/

These are the first deco samples and a number of corrections have been made, including a darker green for "Asbestos" as well as some livery tweaks for "Invincible", "Wallaby" and friends.

The HLs were my first steam locos since joining Dapol and were an absolute pleasure to work on. A refreshing change after going boss-eyed working on the Class 88, with all of it's thousands of warning stickers!

Please keep the feedback coming - see it, say it...you know the rest 😃

Brilliant to hear from you Adam, and that you are receptive to the comments :)

one i would love to see recreated in model form is singapore , well worth looking into the preserved locomotive at rocks by rail
