I’ve been looking for spares for the Janus, put mine on the track for the first time a few weeks back and it had a traction motor flashover, something, I assume the capacitor on the blanking plate, glowed bright enough to see through the body shell then went pop!

Burning smell from the motor so I gave it a go with a different blanking plate but nothing so I assume the motor has burned out on it but I can’t find a source of spares to get a replacement, might have to measure it and see if I can find a generic motor to fit

Check out tramfabriek. He does one to fit and works very well

  2. "Alex"*, a Rapido Trains UK story. (A tale of good service)

(* soon to be renamed frank)

"Alex" arrived in January. And I was so very excited, however, while running in It derailed, again , and again ,and again.

It had no side play I the front axle. With a quick contact to rapido , a label arrived for sending him back, and off he went.

A week (or maybe 2) later, the boy returned! Or rather a new model, And Worked perfectly, but missing something.... thats right. His funnel! Looking a little bit like Peter sam from those thomas and friends/railway series stories!

Off went another email. And back with a very apologetic one , a quick form filling and a new funnel made its way back to me.

And finally. Alex looks brilliant with his funnel and runs brillianty.

Oxfordshire ironstone had a small number of hunslets , "Alex"being one. And another of the number , called "Frank".

"Frank" (Hunslet 3872/1958), as I understand , was the last steam locomotive delivered to the ironstone industry.

Unlike "Alex", "Frank" was fitted with vacuume brakes. It also carried buck eye style couplings used on the dump cars with a altered buffer beam.

For now the main addition was the vacuume brakes. I may one day add some form of buck eyes. But I have used the buck eye shaped magnet couplings.

I've found 2 photos I've used for reference. This also includes the various bits of wood I've added to the buffer beam.

    And finally,

Thanks so much to rapido for the brilliant service. Absolutely top notch.

  3. Our Summer brake van rail tour dates are now available! Link at the bottom of the post !

Let one of our industrial locomotives take you on a tour of one of the largest industrial railway systems in the UK. Passengers travel aboard our British Railways brake vans as we tour the site covering around 25 miles of the 110 mile internal rail system. Our guide will explain the process of producing iron, steel and rolled products at Scunthorpe, You will also make a stop at the AFR-S Loco sheds to view restoration work in progress and to visit our refreshment coach and gift shop.

    Tours last around 4 hours.

Passengers will be accommodated in brake vans with open verandas from which you give you the best views of the site.

Heating if required is provided by coal fired stoves

These tours are not recommended for young children.

News update - OO Gauge TUAs

Production of our TUAs is near complete, however during final checks of production samples we discovered some slight problems with some of the tampo printing (around colour density of some of the printing). Rather than send out a not quite right model Revolution agreed with the factory that they will re-work the liveries on the affected models – this will add a bit of a delay while the models are corrected and we now expect to receive the tanks around April – May (depending on how long the corrections take).

While no one likes a delay we do believe this is the correct decision and not too much longer to wait on what is a cracking model

So will some still be delivered as planned?

  5. Updates.

We have a "shed" load of locos and a shed weathering update

First the hudswell is pretty much finished. Not fully. But it's good enough for now. Thanks again again to Railway Mania for doing this special. Featuring a a BR bonnet and industrial peak cab , the varient that was used at normanby Park.

Next we have john dunns Andrew barclay no8. Modified with the rolled edge running board , later cab (from Planet Industrials ) new Ross pop safety valves and the whistle moved to the cab roof .

Finally. The shed. The pit has been weathered, junk and oil added to make it look used but clean

    Finally the shed

    Also ! static grass trails

Sadly (and don’t read anything into this - I have previously looked at these personally - there are a LOT of variations between them - so much to do them accurately would be a costly tooling exercise…

Now a Manning Wardle do like - but I think the Brill ones are K class and represented by a good kit.

which kit would that be ?

Interesting that the brake is the "wrong way" round on the top photo - I would have thought it was a fixed set?

The second photo is compartment stock so definitely not EA.

happened often with stock , no time to turn coaches for the sake of it. often 2 car sub sets would have the guards area in the middle of the train so he had good visability

  8. Has anyone seen that the 755 is now not expected till 2024/2025, i thought these were announced in 2022.23 release or did i miss something ? has this changed? just wondered if anyone else knew or had heard anything

IMO they will be removable. i cannot imagine them retooling the chassis plate just to include dumb buffers for this, more likely tooled up dumb buffers to fit the holes already moulding into the chassis plate.

i worded that badly, they may be removable, but id imagin they are glued in and painted as part of the buffer beam , not intended to be removed

So perhaps we should abandon the idea that a loco with a large number of members of the class, a wide geographic range, a wide variety of liveries and long lived, make good models for mass production.

Number in the class - 2

Area of operation - London to East Anglia

Length of service in this form - 1951 when both were converted to B17/6 and the stream lining removed.

So the smaller the number built, the smaller the area of operation and the shorter the length of service is what is going to determine the models Hornby will make!

1937-1951 wasnt a bad length of service really in streamlined condition, and will have carried standard, wartime and BR liveries, so thats at least 6 they can produce

Also , after fitting transfers to my planet industrial s victory, ive

    weathered it...

I seem to have good day and bad days with weathering. This one definitely feels like a bad day. Annoying as its one of my most favorite recent locos.

For some reason the Matt wash appears to have gone glossy. Something I've never had it do before. And the powders, used as I normally do with a small amount of water and a medium for a wet effect don't seem to to have gone well.

What do you all think of it? Maybe I'm being to hard on myself? please reply with what you think.

I may have to send it away to be weathered over.

    Oh my…

Just had notification of some petrol expenses due from (wait for it) April this year, and they work out at the cost of two Victory locos…

    I shouldn’t, but I have…

Grey version ordered just now, and the black one as soon as I know the money has actually made it into my account!!

I will have invested in the complete set of four!!

(Shakes head in disbelief at myself)

    HOURS OF FUN!!

Of course, they are bound to announce the blue PLA might-have-been version now…!

what about the 5th model ?
