  1. I was under the impression that underlay helped form the shoulder for ballast, am i right?
  2. What thickness underlay would people suggest for a OO gauge layout? Cheers
  3. So i have provisionally laid the track to make sure everything fits. But wondering if the siding bottom left in plan 1 or bottom right in plan 2 would be better for the engine shed?
  4. Cheers @ITG Have took a step back to really decide what i want to do. Going to stick with original plan, it is my first layout so will give me lots of practice at different techniques and the plan i think is enough to keep me more than interested. The newly found one is quite train set like. Took away the line to loco shed, as might make the sidings in middle an engine shed or could put it bottom left.
  5. Thanks, that makes sense. Now it's decision time.
  6. I do like the intial plan, maybe with a smaller headshunt (or trap) would make sense. However whilst exhausting any other thoughts have come across this plan in the Peco Setrack plan book. The original plan has no station but i think one would work in the left hand corner. The plans in the sidings are suggested as a small goods yard or a maintenance shed and would also give me double track running. But i do have a question. As i understand it the outside track goes clockwise, but the points face the opposite direction, is that correct?
  7. My only other thought is to use the classis track plan for Bredon, as definitely would work for me.
  8. Well firstly it is cost, as i have all settrack track and points. Below is the plav which initially caught my attention. The guy has used the track plan on 3 different layouts, just changing stations etc and making small adjustments.
  9. Thanks for all the replies. Settled on 8x4, and think the plan works for me with just being extended, although some of the ideas were really interesting.
  10. It is a run what i like layout to be honest, mainly diesels and dmu's on a BR heritage line. The two spurs at the top are to store trains off scene. Intrigued by idea one, where would you run it?
  11. Hi So my current plan, a 6x4 is below. I now might be able to enlarge layout to 8x4 (and maybe 10x4). Apart from extending the station tracks, is there anything else anyone might suggest? Unfortunately can't change the 4 foot side.
  12. Have got the wheel distance tool and wheels appear short. Does anyone know how to seperate or adjust the wheels?
  13. Hi Guys After some more advice. Although the Hymek is running , when it comes to points it stalls. The rear wheels are plastic and are not connected to the front bogie or power unit. Can anyone suggest what i can do to improve the situation. Is it looking to change the rear wheels and connect to front bogie? Any help much appreciated.
  14. Well after more cleaning, triple checking everything and putting it back together again (about the 10th time), i put it on the test track. And somehow it burst into life, seemingly quite happy to go forward and reverse.
  15. Well near to giving up, but getting feedback in my controller which must indicate something. Any ideas anyone?
  16. Well still no luck, although it seems i am missing 2 x thrust bush from the armature, and have used a new armature in case that was the fault. Also the collector units, although fitting in place dont always beep when i try a continuity test. Will get a replacement pair to see if that sorts the problem .Apart from that, i'm stumped.
  17. Ok, having a few difficulties but want to check one thing, as think it might be the answer. On the bottom of the train, between the wheels are 2 cogs. Before i took it apart they didn't move, but now one moves. Should they move and any suggestions what to check next?
  18. Cheers, think i have found out why, the rear bogie has plastic wheels so must be a front bogie one only.
  19. Very strange question. Watched a guy on youtube service a R758 motor. On mine, there isn't any wiring but on his was a couple of wires from the rear bogie? How can i tell if there should be wiring on mine?
