  1. Can i be honest, i am totally confused with the x and y axis thing. Sorry.
  2. Hi Phil sorry, completely missed that section for some reason. Who do i contact to possibly move thread? the 6x4 limit is what i have, a 6x4 baseboard agreed with the other half and access all round, although must be moved back against wall after use.
  3. Unfortunately Bredon is 6ft8. However just found this plan which could be perfect. Although not sure where line on bottom right is going to.
  4. No worries. Best i can say is this. With only 6x4 it will restrict train lengths, but i'm ok with that. Would swapping the goods area to the right hand side on layout help the situation , well a little at least? Maybe move the points into them slightly to start on first part of straight? Behind the backscene is a problem. I can get 2nd and 3rd radius on the board with some adjustment, plan below, but not sure how to run the goods yard into the inside. Doesn't need to be big. But then makes space at back rather limited, again maybe just a thing i will have to put up with. My class 42 runs on 1st radius curves and understand that a lot of trains do, but of course some won't. In layout 1, the thinking behind it was for non 1st radius happy locos to run either way on outside loop. Got access all round board, so that's a plus.
  5. Hi Yes committed to 4mm gauge. Tried 2mm in the past and just got frustrated with it from a scratchbuilding point of view. And not getting any younger. Mainly be trains i like , got a class 42, looking for a dmu and a 08. Appreciate can only accomodate a loco and a couple of carriages so thinking of a run what i like heritage line.
  6. Hi All I have two trackplans that i really like. The first plan is more of a run trains with a loco shed and storage siding. The second plan has some sidings that i think could be a heritage goods shed and loco shed. I am after views mainly for the second plan if i have put the goods shed and loco shed in the right place, or if you would them placed differently. I don't want to change either plan as being only restricted to 6x4 these are the best plans for me. The first plan i have seen run on youtube and the second is an adaption of a Hornby plan. Will be run by DCC. Any views much appreciated.
  7. The 1st radius curves are in my mind. I do have another plan, which was the one i was going with which has a 1st radius curves on the inside and a 2nd radius on the outside although it splits into at station in case some trains can't handle the 1st radius.
  8. Yeah, mine i have had for a while. Had a adaptor but didnt seem to fit, but just needed some welly to get it in.
  9. So i have added a few more droppers, have i missed anything obvious? But will put one in a many places as possible. As for 1st Radius curves, rolling stock i have runs on it no problem, a Lima class 42 is quite happy. And pretty sure locos i want will run on it, but if they don't will just run on outer line. Plan in future is to enlarge layout, and larger radius curves will be in my mind then. This layout is to get up and running, learning skills along the way and enjoying doing scenery and buildings. And does anyone know what plug i need to plug the nce powercab 2 pin supply into the wall?
  10. Hi all Have marked where i think droppers should be, but am no expert. Can anyone see where more might be needed? Thanks
  11. Thanks. Now to work out where to place droppers on the plans.
  12. Hi Got a thread in non DCC but thought i should look at DCC possibly. I do have a NCE Powercab so would be spared expense their. And as i understand it wiring is simpler, with droppers down from the tracks onto 2 bus wires. And IRJ's on the v's of the insulfrog turnouts. Please correct me if i'm wrong. My main question is about DCC ready locomotives. I think it is a sill question, but if it is dcc ready, is it just plugging a decoder into the socket and putting body back on train? Cheers
  13. Because i saw the trackplan and someone's use of switches the plan below suggests where the switches should go (the yellow circles). These are operated by switches, which is where the cab control comes in. I know there are different types of switches, any ideas what switch type i would need?
  14. It's funny you quote Brian Lambert. Just found a book, looked at the electrics and still doesnt make sense. But will have a nice quiet read and hopefully it might sink in.
  15. So would i run power to lets say the inside circuit from both controllers and use a switch to decide which one to use? Do you know of anywhere with either a youtube video or simple diagram that might make it make sense?
  16. Thanks for all the replies. Electrics are a dark art to me. Have had cab control mentioned to me, which i had not heard of, so will look into that for sure. Maybe it is just a case of double checking exactly what i want. Do i really need a crossover? It certainly wont be an exhibition layout, and just run for me.
  17. Hi Ian Yes outer and inner track train runs fine but stalls at the crossover. Loco is a class 42, first bogie goes over irj's and then stalls. Checked polarity and that was fine. Changed the irj's for metal ones and train swapped tracks. I won't use the crossing very much so if it works with metal rail joiners and correct point direction that might just be the answer. On the outside track train is happy at all points. I do have another plan in my mind, similar but with sidings at the front which i could power with a 3rd power connection, see below. But it as 3 crossovers so need to work things out first.
  18. Power feeds on right hand side, blue line is where i was having problems, and changed to metal joiners. All points are insulfrog. Using a Gaugemaster Q controller, so DC control.
  19. With trepidation tried metal rail joiners and train will now run thru points. Now i'm confused.
  20. The points are new, could they still be dirty. Silly question, what would happen if i put metal joiner in place of the plastic ones?
  21. I am building a small OO gauge layout. Have power on the outer line and power on the inner line, both work perfectly. I have a pair of insulfrog points as a cross over but my train keeps stopping on when i try and swap tracks. Have both controllers set at same power level and have plastic rails at join of points. What am i missing?
  22. @Les1952 Can i ask a couple of silly questions. What do you use the crossover for in the station? Do you ever use it? And what do you do with the siding?
  23. Well the wardrobe is proving stubborn so getting some help to get it out. Fortunately I can drill pretty well so the new shelfs should be a doddle. Auction was a bit mad, they had n gauge items which went for big money and although rare seemed a little over priced. Got railway and military memorabilia, just a couple of small bit s but you have to start somewhere. If anyone wants some BR buttons, let me know
