  1. G'day all I like the Hughes 7F 0-8-0. It really is brutish. I prefer it with the narrow cut-out cab sides, rather than the later version with a side window cab, I am currently building a 00 gauge model (NuCast), and aim to fill the boiler with lead, which will give a good haulage power. The chassis is fitted with a Mashima 1624 driving through a High Level 60:1 gearbox. Earlswood nob
  2. Good morning all I agree that a trader should know what they're selling. There is one dealer who advertises the majority of his locos having Romford Bulldog motors. These have not been produced for approx forty years, and are likely to require new brushes etc. However they sound a better name than Hornby. The same vendor advertises locos being painted by Larry Goddard, but there is no signature. IMHO this is misleading advertising, but Ebay do nothing about it. I bought a loco from another dealer advertised as "professionally built and painted", but the vendor didn't know which professional built it, and it was obviously painted with a professional shovel. The professional also erred in the assembly of the valve gear. I was not unhappy with the purchase as I intended rebuilding and repainting it. However, if a modeller bought it expecting a superior finished and running loco and did not have the skills to rebuild it, they would have been disappointed. Earlswood nob
  3. Afternoon all How about this motor bracket for £9.99 that South Eastern Finecast sell for £3.25. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SOUTH-EASTERN-FINECAST-D13-OR-LSWR-H11-H113-PLEASE-SEE-BELOW-/112020192143?hash=item1a14ec7b8f:g:ivQAAOSw0QFXBiof
  4. Good morning all The 51ft1in stock was coupled together to produce twins, but never triplets. There were triplet restaurant/kitchen cars produced for main line services. There were many examples of old six and eight wheel coaches coupled together to form twin, triplets, quads and even quints. However, kits for the constituents of these are like hen's teeth. I believe D&S have produced a few, and Diagram3d list four laser cut body kits. I like the articulated carriages and have tried producing some by hacking old Triang/Hornby coaches, but the results aren't that impressive. Earlswood nob
  5. Every pic and model of the "Lickey Banker" has a Tender cab fitted to the tender. Somebody must have stolen it from this model. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DJH-OO-GAUGE-KIT-BUILT-LMS-BLACK-0-10-0-LICKEY-BANKER-BIG-BERTHA-LOCO-7Z-/201592381205?hash=item2eefd79f15:g:KLsAAOSwn8FXSCXj
  6. Obviously the well known vendor thinks that Larry Goddard forgot to sign the loco. Perhaps I should sell an unsigned painting that I have in my hall. I think it may have been painted by Picasso, but he forgot to sign it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CROWNLINE-KIT-BUILT-BRASS-LNER-4-6-2-CLASS-A4-LOCO-2512-SILVER-FOX-LARRY-GODDARD-/371633763789?hash=item56871935cd:g:s3kAAOSwrnNXP20O
  7. This must be rare, as its the first finescale Triang/Hornby Jinty chassis that I've seen. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301957729320?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  8. G'day all How to avoid spending/saving £38.48. You can buy this used Yeadon Register Vol 50 for £53.47 rather than the £14.99 that Booklaw are charging for a new copy. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yeadons-Register-of-LNER-Locomotives-v-50-/391458577194?hash=item5b24bfdb2a:g:T1gAAOSwxvpXOViQ
  9. Buy this coach shell and spend £30 plus in finishing it. It may then be worth £10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unusual-Vintage-Metal-Kit-Built-LNER-Corridor-Teak-Coach-1330-Windows-Both-Ends-/391455591077?hash=item5b24924aa5:g:kSkAAOSwvU5XNG69
  10. I have always found this thread light hearted and amusing.and have enjoyed contributing. It now seems that TWIGGY1969 is trying to make it degenerate into a slanging match. I have no desire to take part in exchanging personal insults. Life is too short, and time is too precious to waste on such trivial things. Earlswood nob
  11. Amazing.......someone has bid for the Kay's 15XX. If I find the bidder, he might be interested in paying vast sums for a couple of kits that I've picked up as part of a job lot. Earlswood nob
  12. Posted Yesterday, 19:55 I offered £25 for the kit for a laugh, and his counter offer was £250 less the wheels? I thought £250 was the price anyway? It is now offered at £200. If he waits for too long, SEF/Branchlines will reintroduce the Nucast NC043 with a NS chassis kit for around £90. Earlswood nob
  13. A very rare price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/unbuilt-br-gwr-15xx-loco-body-kit-c-w-ultrascale-wheels-motor-and-gearbox-/141978018516?hash=item210e8ca2d4:g:cuUAAOSwq19XCWxq Earlswood Nob
  14. Bargain of the month: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WILLS-KIT-BUILT-FINE-SCALE-00-LMS-ex-MR-0-6-4T-FLAT-IRON-TANK-MIB-/301365377464?hash=item462ac6b9b8:g:mzYAAOSwDN1USX5k Finished to highest proffessional standards. It certainly is hard to find in that condition. Earlswood nob
  15. Sarahagain's description beats mine. I was trying to match it with a LNER loco and didn't consider LMS Earlswood nob
  16. Good morning all The loco 4812 is a old BEC J11 fitted to a Triang/Hornby chassis. It has a number from a J39. It looks like it has a J17 tender. It certainly isn't a GCR tender. Perhaps he has a J17 with a GCR tender. Earlswood nob
  17. Good morning all A while ago I bought a pack of three tip for the Antex 25W iron from Maplins. I think it cost me around £12, probably more today. It pays to look around. Earlswood nob
  18. Good morning all I'm glad that you continued and left the coaches slightly overlength, Manna, as I don't expect anyone will notice. Earlswood nob
  19. Good morning all The V2 also has the wrong tender. Bachmann copied the B1 tender for several locos, but these were not fitted to the V2. Early V2s have the LNER GS flush sided tender. A few V2s were fitted with LNER GS stepped out coping tender The majority of V2s had the high front tender, which didn't have the central toolbox of the B1s. Earlswood nob
  20. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yeadons-Register-of-LNER-Locomotives-Volume-Two-Gresley-A4-and-W1-Classes-2-/311547216016?hash=item4889a94090:g:dmMAAOSwWTRWv2wp You can spend £26.81 on this second hand book. However, those on a tight budget can buy it new from Booklaw for £9.99. Earlswood nob
  21. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LMS-7573-Railway-Train-Model-1970-circa-Vintage-toy-collectible-48/360859443370?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20150313114020%26meid%3Dca43e5cbddbb4703b2dd10f51d4ab649%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D20%26sd%3D390771751429 This can't even be worth the £3.99 postage. If someone gave this to me, I'd think of charging for the disposal of it. Earlswood nob
  22. Good morning all I prefer building kits, rather than buying RTR locos. However, as Kenton mentions above, one can sometimes find bargains with badly assembled models. I won a "so-called" professionally built model, which had been built using glue without cleaning mould lines etc, paint applied with a shovel, and the wrong style of transfer numbers. A soak in the stripping bath and it was reduced to a pile of bits and I now have a new kit. A bonus was a Comet chassis and Romford wheels, and all for a price less that the cost of a new Comet chassis. I won a loco at an auction (not Ebay), for a good price. Before putting the body in the stripping bath, I removed the chassis, and I found a Portescap motor. Normally at auctions the Auction House has the experts in recognising and describing lots. Ebay relies on the vendor for recognising and describing items. However, they both can make mistakes. Earlswood nob
  23. Good morning all It amazes me, that the above dealer, lists many of his locos with Romford Bulldog motors. It must be forty years since this motor was in production. I imagine that many Romford Bulldogs now have worn brushes, and where do you get replacements? If I was in the market for ready built kits, I would prefer other five pole options for replacement XO4 type motors. I would prefer those where replacement brushes are available. Earlswood nob
  24. Why pay £24 for a new set of Isinglass drawings of the LNER Quad-Arts when you can pay £39.99 for a faded set. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LNER-GNR-Gresley-Quadruple-Suburban-Sets-Brake-Coach-Technical-Drawing-x4-/391362629399?hash=item5b1f07cf17:g:MuwAAOSwnH1WbHYK Earlswood nob
  25. G'day all Thanks for posting the informative pics. From the look of the valve gear etch, a driven middle axle will result in the equivalent of two 0-6-0's with drive on the rear axle placed back-to-back. The firebox looks huge and would accommodate a large motor. Earlswood nob
