Interesting news I don't hold out much hope of the Kirk/Cooper-craft kits seeing the light of day any time soon, if ever, but at least part of the range is coming back.

I'm not an NER man but the pseudo rails on that first tender I've always found strange looking!
-
-
What curves?
Very true I do need to get something of the tender done. The rolling part is two bits of u channel - one for the front pair of axles and one for the rear so it has an element of steering. These then screw to a flat piece of brass that is then fixed to the footplate of the tender - pretty basic!

It has crossed my mind that I probably need to get the tender underway

I'm not very familiar with the west side of Liverpool St but I never knew it was a through station, even if only for a short while

Is this the tunnel entrance at Liverpool St?

Obviously out of use by the time the picture was taken.

I've yet to build a tender - but does the spacer version fit inside and the folded version fit outside the wheels - i.e. you need both? The kit I have uses this method. I suspect not but worth a thought?
edit: nope - ignore me - the fold up one looks nothing like the outside frames

This has been posted before, but if you Google 'Kirk coaches' the searches take you to the relevant pages, bypassing the home page and you are able to make and pay for an order.

No warning to be seen there.
That's how I got caught

Desperate for a lottery win to buy a full set!
-
Yes you can but it's much more of a faf than buying from the old Comet website. Perhaps we should have a thread for the most badly designed website in railway modelling.
I just choose what I want from the comet site and plug the numbers in the wizard site. Andrew has said he wants to get all the info from all the brands onto the one site but it's a massive task.

Easy to fill in - for ones I wasn't interested in I just said not for me.
Although I'd love a 309 so may have put that down. Might be a stretch of rule 1 though

Looking at the Wizard Models website yesterday, there are some new RDEB items available: etched droplights and end gear, carriage interior partitions and two GN quad-arts.
Teasing! I want (need!) Quint-arts

Been a bit busy to be doing modelling, but have no managed to start the fitting of pickups -
There's a shim of plasticard under each one. The tips stick out ever so slightly - this is intentional so they don't try and touch the non-insulated inside part of the wheel. Hopefully.
Next step is to solder two lengths of wire to make a kind of bus bar which also helps to prevent them moving etc.

Yowzer! Can't wait

Small time or not, allowing money to be taken for goods that you have no ability to supply and then refuse to refund - in my personal case it took about 5 or 6 requests - I'm no legal legal but that smells of obtaining money by deception, which as an offence I understand has been replaced by fraud as a general term.
I think anyone who is owed money would prefer to just get it back, but assuming the above stories are true (I have no reason to believe otherwise, especially after the trouble I had) and he is unwilling to refund then other routes need to be looked at.
It's a sad state of affairs

I've also reported him to trading standards.

I really want a quint set or 3...

Get well soon
-
Best of luck, I hope you have success.

I will gladly read and digest any tips - I do sometimes have a habit of ignoring things though - e.g. starting with a complex kit I have a couple of sets of Hornby points and a straight to just check how things run over them. I do like the look of the new Peco bullhead stuff however for any layout I do eventually build.
It would be a lot easier to not do tender pickups so that's good!

Hi John, thank you for the kind words! Not the best idea doing one as a first "real" kit - the old DJH J50 being my first other one and that was 20+ years ago and nothing since!
That sounds like good advice - I've got no layout at the moment so can't easily test the effectiveness but I guess that can always be added later if I consider the wiring route when building it.

I've been plucking up the courage to build the tender tank for a while - but as I'm *still* waiting for the bus bar wire (not got anything thick enough to be rigid enough) I though I'd best crack on.
Nervous of it as the parts were very... wavy... and I've still not done a lot of seam soldering. But I think I did ok
The footplate seems a bit short compared to images of the real thing but I guess that will give clearance on sharper turns. I wonder if I had the iron too hot as it went a bit brown straight away. There's still hints of wavy on the tank top but hopefully that can be hidden with coal. Interesting that it's just flat, not even a remote attempt at adding some depth to the coal space. Makes for an easier build I guess.
I should add there are a few detail pieces to go on the top - it's not just flat and done. But nothing under that level.
