A thought about the layout of the sidings. I remember some having the sidings at the edge of the yard, with much more space between the tracks so that the mobile crane and lorries could service either siding without having to move too far. Example here of Hythe (Hants) in 1967:
The left hand track is only a few yards from the yard boundary fence and the right hand one near the base of the railway embankment on which the passenger station stood.
