Conversion potential to wider gauges could be an important factor – unless High Level do a replacement chassis kit!
They’ve got diecast chassis - fair enough. But they also have a diecast running plate - makes conversion more problematic!

Full cab 517 could be on my Christmas list. Hope it’s going to be easy-ish to convert to EM.

Well, that was a grand day out. Spent wisely, watched lots, and had loads of good conversation. Excellent layouts, but too many to pick out as favourites.

Culm will not be attending. This was notified before Christmas, but has escaped the net and is still appearing on the layout list.

That’s the technique I use as well. It keeps the shape, and the tarp can made to look newer/stiffer by increasing the PVA strength. I then paint with acrylics.

Is there any reason why an RC loco cannot retain its pickups and then run on powered track? If so, are there requirements that need to be put in place,eg receiver switched off, etc?

Hornby do/did one, for their Grange, but that's RTR of course. It looks decent enough though.
Hadn’t spotted this reply when I posed a cut and shut possibility. Many thanks for this, and I shall look for the rtr version.

I think Falcon Brassworks/Jidenco did one. One of those where it might be worth watching on eBay to see if the etches appear, sometimes they sell a few "etches only" on there, If they do, the rest of the bits you can get from other sources.

If anyone were to do it, then my money would have been on Falcon: they made kits for everything going! If I can’t find anything, I’ve thought of doing a horizontal cut and shut on a 4000 gall tender- I wonder if that would work?

Is there a kit for a Collett 3500 gall tender, 4mm?

Really good show, stayed there for 4 hours or so. Impressive layouts, backup trade and good value refreshments. Met a load of people I haven’t seen for a while. Good time!

Black doors and steps makes sense: the GWR tended to paint areas black that would get dirty, even specific window areas in signal boxes.

I’ve read somewhere that the cab doors were painted black, but I’m not certain on this. Perhaps, somebody more knowledgable can comment?

Didn’t Triang do a 4000gall tender?

Rookie question. I have bound my receiver to the controller, but is it possible to rebind the receiver to a different number setting afterwards?

A few of us went to show on Saturday. We really enjoyed, good layouts across most scales. As you would expect in Burnley, the lunchtime pie was excellent.

Many thanks to Peter Rigby for arranging the show: really good all round. Considering the show is in the middle of holiday time in August, then 400+ is a respectable number of attendees — I hope the EMGS is happy with that.

It was a really good show allround: layouts, trade and demonstrations. I hope the numbers are good enough to keep it going.

Good to see that Ellis Clark are catering for EM and P4 modellers— I wish more of the other manufacturers did the same.

Thanks for all your efforts here. I shall find these very useful.

Consider putting Linuxonto your PC. Easier to manage because youhave fewer worries about viruses, etc. also runs a hell of a lot faster even on oldspec PCs.

Fairly certain the 70' toplights were all gone by Nationalisation (more than happy to be proven wrong), but I'm pretty sure I've seen photos of 57' toplights in BR crimson/cream, and non-gangwayed in crimson. The toplights tended to be plated in by that time so the only visual indicator over an early Collett coach from a distance was the flat ends and door ventilators above the droplights.
Comet is your friend if you want variety over and above what is produced RTR (and as we've seen you can't have too much variety for any but the named expresses for 1950s WR modelling), catering vehlcles, the 'other' Centenaries, and non-gangwayed Colletts including flatenders. The kits are not difficult, but do take time and care, and I would recommend strengthening some of the assemblies as they can be a little flimsy. I'd also recommend RTR bogies or Stafford Road Works (on Shapeways) 3D prints, as I don't like Comets' whitemetal offerings. The ones I made up for my E147 B set were wide enough to be visible from directly overhead the coaches; that can't be right... The Stafford Road bogies take RTR wheelsets without brass bearings, run very smoothly, and have NEM pockets the correct height above rail level no connection happy customer. Stafford do various Deans, fishbellies, Collett 7' and 9', but not Pressed Steel.
As with you, Johnster, I prefer the Safford Rd bogies - but it pains me to pay the postage charge from Holland. I wish something could be done about it!

Why are these details not on the EMGS website?

Maybe they could do one panelled on one side but not the other!
I’ve got a number of coaches like this: wartime brown one side, chocolate and cream the other. The wartime brown is used on top of cocked-up normal GW livery!

How many of these retained their wartime non-window cab? Is there a directory of numbers?
