  1. SRman, I have some time comming up... we can make it bigger...... you know the wall with the sliding door... straight through take out the window... or put a new smaller one in....😁
  2. Would you believe me if I said there was only one! Before any one asks for such a stylish garment... when my wife and I saw it we realized that there was only on one. Then with great ceremony threw it out... well worn and thread bare in places. Sadly one of the last times I saw Brian alive, yes he was wearing it... Dementia had commenced its nasty attack. The jacket had his keys and wallet in it. His hands were in the pockets so he knew where they the Keys and wallet were at all times, by wrapping his hands around them. RIP, Brian, I hope you are enjoying watching the steam trains travel through Exeter.
  3. Not many I would suggest... You have Puffing Billy from Belgrave (is this still in Melbourne it is becoming a suburb) any day!, then Mornington Railway (again very similar) only on the 27th though, Queenscliff Railway, again on the 27th. Then a little further afield the Goldfields railway (only on Sundays). I think sunday is a challenge to do more than 1 as it is almost 2 hours round the bay from Mornington to Queenscliff!
  4. The gentleman to the left of John is Brian Frary (dec).... i know that jacket anywhere. Its now been 2 years I have been battling with his estate. Not sure who the man is to the left of Brian... I suspect a BRMA member
  5. I removed as much as I could with another application with a cotton bud, where I couldn't dissolve it I rubbed it with a dry cotton bud to remove as much bloom as possible. I was left with some areas or white which I then luckily varnished over and they disappeared. I did have some other weird goings on with the Varnish on the tender side, It appeared to be like crocodile skin. Was this too close when I sprayed it or another reason I don't know. The solution was very gently sand the varnish with 2000grit modelling paper this removed the texture and respray with no ill effects. just be very very gentle with the sanding.
  6. Saying above, that I didn't like Osprey in the high gloss finish. I found one 2 weeks ago at an exhibition but couldn't resist. Roll forward to last weekend, I looked closely at the loco and decided that I would respray with Tamiya semi gloss varnish to the main body, along with Flat Varnish to the loco roof and the tender back plate, coal and water filler areas. To make things very straight forward I used the Tamiya spray packs TS 79 (semi gloss) and TS 80 (flat). I am so happy that I did. The loco now matches the standard range. All very straight forward to do. I also used the Tamiya masking tape to have nice sharp breaks between the 2 finishes. BTW the Hornby High gloss reacted to the IPA used to clean the body. It produced a white bloom which would come off but you can avoid it by not doing what I did. Thankfully it disappears with the above varnish.
  7. I do wonder if they could Say chip in for a cylinder or 2.... and rebuild the V2...
  8. Thanks Bilbo, Can you give me the code off the box? Not sure if I like this as much as their previous issues.... for completeness I'll keep my eye out for one though!
  9. Ok it is that time of the year again. Can any Bachmann collectors club member when you receive the next issue of the wagon can you please pop a photo up on line. As soon as this happens I will update the page 1 of this thread to include the latest edition. Thanks in advance
  10. I haver heard that a number of the first batch are starting to land here in Australia. I am expecting that mine should arrive today/ tomorrow as a mate here in Melbourne received his and he is extremely happy with it. The photos via SMS last night really does show how good these models are!
  11. I have only done the post 2004 New version of the A4's excluding the Hornby Dublo versions in the LNER liveries as per below, there may be some that I have missed which may be down to me already having a version of that loco. This might help some people if you are looking to colllect them all! Where there is no R number this has not been done by Hornby in any livery. This may also help those looking at which loco to tender combination will be appropriate for what loco... BTW this may contain errors due to tender number but I have gone for the most numerous type. 12. Well that's incredibly sad, as each loco is not original (I have heard that Mallard is a combination of parts off a number of A4's) it is disappointing that the museum is a static one. these locos should be seen doing what they do on the main line/ branchline/ preserved line. The same argument could be had for a zoo.... you can go to a museum and see one stuffed and mounted... but watching a animal living is so much more interesting... same with a locomotive, let it do what it did, if parts wear out replace/ repair etc....in the same way a animal goes and sees a vet.... admittedly your can breed a animal and end up with more... What are the breeding habits of A4's?? ... you can borrow them from other museums... oh hang on that has already been done... No seriously the NRM will be looking for Class 37's 47's etc to add to the collection. Collecting items for the collection is a way to hold onto the heritage. My point of view is if you can see it operating it makes so much more impression on what the exhibit did originally. So I support the idea of heritage but I don't support the idea of stuffing and mounting them. BY ADB96008's comment above the NRM disagree with my view... except for a certain Flying Scotsman!
  13. I needed to clean up the layout more than I had. 😁 The list of A4's that have been done at one time or another is quite long if you include all the Hornby Dublo 2 & 3 rail, Hornby ring fields and now the New versions of Hornby and Hornby dublo. I have restricted myself to the LNER livery and New version Hornby. So I am down to about 6 left to chase down, Silver Fox, Herring Gull, Great Snipe, Sir Wilson Murrough, Dominion of Canada (if it has a single chimney) and the unreleased Empire of India. I don't like how Osprey came out in gloss LNER Green... so no. I'll keep looking but I have noticed that the prices have gone through the roof as well... now over 150quid generally but I don't look on Ebay as the postage to me is ridiculous!
  14. Yeah, must get back to that.... been a couple of years since I did too much on the pair of them!
  15. I would love to see Green Arrow running again also. Interesting comparison with Flying Scotsman and the A4s as some are still running...
  16. Well the other night i had all the A4s out so lined them all up for a photo or 3 this one is the top view. 10000 is at the top of the shot with the orginal tender and coping around the tankfiller. I wouldn't mind seeing that on one of the silver 4 as fresh out of the works Finding a few strange goings on between my phone and attaching photos.. most appear to go upside down? Any how heres some i like!
  17. Well I've paid the invoice and had a confirmation that its been dispatched but not had anything from Royal mail for tracking. I have watched the Hornby Mag review. I think people are right the NER green that the dome looks to be different colours. It doent bother me as i went for the LNER black. Yesterday discussing with a number local BRMA members we'll have a few G5s heading to this part of the world.
  18. Yeap my invoice turned up tonight... so a LNER push pull... will make it all the way to wintery Australia!... it may stop me buying A4s for a bit...🤣🤣
  19. Barry, did you receive a Invoice or was this a "new order". I ask as I haven't received an invoice to date and wasn't really expecting one for another week or 2. Still happy to do so as they are on their way!
  20. I suspect that by the time my loco arrives... the magazine will follow here in Australia! Back to what D5158 was saying that was my understanding as well. They would have been looking very scruffy and run down by the 1950's. I have been onto the Poll team (Ok one of the members is a good friend of mine) who said the list will include Diags 146,162, 213 of 1938. I can see that Dia 162 (Arc Roofed version) would be more appropriate for the G5. I am still looking forward to having one running around on my layout in time.
  21. GNR Dave... if you start looking into the variations watch out for the tenders as there was 3 types, Non corridor, 1928 Corridor (Ex A1/A3's) and the streamlined. Hornby have done a pretty good job though they are still missing the Roller bearing versions (I think there were 2, one with SKF bearings and another). I don't disagree that some post war in LNER blue with either numbering would be nice... though avoid Mallard with the small 22's as it looked sorry in every photo I have seen in that form.
  22. I seem to have gone rather nuts on A4's recently... I had only 3 for a long long time of the latest Hornby model all in LNER livery. Then I purchased the lovely Silverlink in the 80th guise... But for some unknown reason as of Christmas last year I thought I should buy a Commonwealth of Australia which needed attention which wasnt listed by Hattons... Then for some unknown reason I have had them breeding on a regular basis. Now Quick silver and Silver king turned up Cheap but needing replacement drawbars and a couple of other parts I sourced. I then did a excel spread sheet of LNER appropriate livery that Hornby has done over the years. With the result that I now have or are winging their way to me all of the following: Sir Charles Newton (LNER Black) Mallard (Blue) Sir Nigel Gresley (Blue) Silver Link (Silver) Silver King (Silver) Quick silver (silver) Commonweath of Australia (Blue) Gargannay (Blue) Kingfisher (Blue) Woodcock (Green) Now should 10000 in Blue be included in this list... Yes I think so. So strictly I have 10 at the moment but result of all of the above is there isnt that many left to collect. Empire of India (not yet released) Dominion of Canada (Great gathering) Sir Murrough Wilson (black) Herring Gull (blue) Great Snipe (blue) Osprey (green gloss) - not sure about this one in gloss?
  23. Great to see these are on their way to TMC I am looking forward to my LNER lined and with sound. I do wonder if "we" could convince Rapido to do the auto carriages that went with them in either clerestory or standard roofed versions. I have a once complete with another under construction for my G6... but they are in P4.... I will suggest the the wish pole team to add both versions for the next pole!
  24. The sales of a collection is quite problematic. I am still dealing with an estate and a large collection of HD wrenn etc. The issue is here in Australia we don't have many if any dealers. The next I dealt with was the Auction house however the issue is the value is low as there buyers premium and a sellers premium. I know the collection is extensive and the problem of flooding the market if I put it on ebay, let alone the time involved. I have decided to list all the items and pass it to a couple of people I have met, who have said they are tired of collections of this magnitude being sold for silly low money, only for the subsequent owner to list on ebay and make a large profit. They are doing me a favor for looking through and also being able to "cherry" pick the collection prior to it going public! As long as I receive a reasonable sum (and get my garage back in the process!) I'll be happy! The value proposition is always a hard one. If you want a quick painless cash up front.. go through the dealers or auction houses. AIf you want more money look to putting the efforts in to achieve that aim, just realize you take on the "risk". Balancing all of the outcomes is up to you.
  25. Jumping back to the topic of Exhibitions and traders. Here in Melbourne we had one of the bigger exhibitions 2 weekends ago. I agree that even with that Exhibition there were a lot more Ready to run stands than of old. Very small amounts of second hand. The interesting thing is the ready to run is generally NSW and Victorian prototype. the starting prices which generally are 360quid and work up and that for a 4-6-0 tender. Once upon a time the exhibitions were full of smaller suppliers providing resin bodies to go on American diesel chassis and very very expensive brass steam locos. Lots of kit built items and mostly layouts of prototypes from all over the world, American, Australian, British, along with other European. Now they are almost 40/60 of layouts to traders with unsurprisingly mostly Australian prototypes... the BRMA keep the flag flying as best we can for UK prototype modelling but there aren't enough newer layouts to keep a presence as the RTR for the Australian has encouraged people to model what they can see out their back door.... which all makes sense!
