  5. There has been clear evidence for decades that lowering the speed of vehicles impacting with humans reduces deaths.
  6. We've had 20 mph areas for several years now, no big deal they are in residential areas where driving slowly is no hardship and is sensible, our village has been twenty for a couple of years and most stick to it that I've noticed.
  7. Back to european rugby this coming weekend, the domestic league gives us scant clues as to how it will go as the clubs in England seem to be beating each other, with no-one really setting the world on fire, be interesting to see how it goes with the new format.
  8. My first car was a 10 year old Austin Cambridge, the old round one, not the later one with fins. PCA 602 still remember the reg number to this day, bench seat sat three in the front and at least three in the back and you could fit a few in the boot too. I can't vouch too much for the steel content as there wasn't that much of it left, a mate literally stuck his head through a hole in one of the wings. Davids P40 and lots of old cereal boxes soon tidied it up and a brush paint with some old black gloss from home and it was our gangs transport for several months until it seized and blew up, it seems you cannot choose between petrol or oil, it actually needed both, I was a hard up apprentice at the time and both and beer wasn't an option.
  9. Under the bridge- Red Hot Chili Peppers

  13. I most certainly owe my life to a locum doctor at my old GP's practice who sent me for an ultra sound that found my tumour, the surgeon who removed it was a gentleman who explained the situation very clearly and saw me again afterwards when covid was still a rampant killer in the country. I have seen first hand doctors struggling with high workloads and little support. But sadly hiding amongst the heroes(and I happen to think anyone who goes that extra yard in their job as a hero, even our postie at times) there are lazy skivers trying to dodge doing anything if they can get away with it, they clearly took the wrong career path, but instead of getting advice or actually leave the profession, they drag others around them down. On night shifts as I lay in my hospital beds I witnessed nurses trying their damndest to correct the sloppy mistakes of their so called superiors, it certainly seemed to me that it's the nurses who are trying to save the NHS rather than others..
  14. When I had to retire from playing due to a knee injury, I used to go to Welford Road most home games, the crowds were low thousands at most, it only filled up on Boxing Day when the Tigers played the Barbarians or if a touring Southern hemisphere side played the Midlands team there. I used to rock up 5 minutes before kick off and pay at the gate and sit or stand pretty much anywhere I wanted to and of course there were clubs playing on public parks where there was often just one man and his dog. I used to pay match subs to play and we raised funds for away coaches by running disco's, a bar and a fruit machine in the club house, something we built our selves.
  15. River deep mountain high- Tina Turner
  16. There are sadly some Doctors who are liars and will tell you anything to either get themselves out of the room or in the case of one of our GP's to get us out of the room, we see a different GP now, one who actually told us the the other one was "economic with the truth".
  17. I hear you knocking- Dave Edmunds
  18. I don't think you can compare amateur rugby against the pro game of today, the laws have been changed, refs interpretation of the laws have changed the speed and strength of the players in the modern game is so different to what it was. I miss the old game for genuine contests like the scrum, when the ball went in the middle and not into the second row, there was a genuine contest, that has gone. Lifting in the lineouts making competing for the ball almost impossible as you cannot touch the opposition player, lifting should be banned, it's dangerous for all concerned and again a real contest would be returned. Backs no longer rely on skill and guile like it used to be, all rugby players now spend hours in the gym and taking special diets to increase their size and strength. How ever as a spectacle, the pro game is entertaining to watch, not too sure the crowds would like a nine man game with no tries and a slugfest as often happened when I played.
  19. Look through any window- The Hollies
  20. Had a wander on our local beach as it was sunny though cold, we often do this, before covid we were often on the beach on our own winter or summer, today I reckon there was at least a 100 folk there, good that they are getting out and about.
  21. It has already been reset Sunshine of your love- Cream
