  1. More running session pictures Shaun.
  2. Hi all , and thanks Simon Now the wall is almost complete I decided to have a running session and invited Simon and Matt to bring some stock. Pictures taken with phone so apologies for quality
  3. Hi to all, Apologies for picture quality as taken with phone, but shows boards attached again with walls nearing completion.
  4. Hi to all, and thank you Perfect Paul Here is a bit more progress on the retaining walls, adding the detailed red brick, an idea from the walls at Sheffield. Then adding the capping stones using thick plasticard strips with slots cut for mortar joins. Inspiration from the walls at Sheffield. They are not as high as the walls at Bradford Interchange, but the red detailed brickwork will make it more interesting and add more colour. Thanks for looking Shaun
  5. Fancy a brew ! Awsome modelling
  6. Thanks to Paul and Stu for your comments aac, hi don't worry the heating is never on at mine unless its below freezing, cannot afford gas when you got layouts to pay for. Update time from the kitchen table More work on the retaining walls with embossed plasticard being added There will be a road along the wall, so here's my South Yorkshire bus balanced on a box and cork tile to see what it will look like when the road is in place. Thanks for looking Shaun.
  7. When you get a trophy like that, it makes all that effort worth it
  8. Hi Robert Nice layout, I especially like the blue era . Shaun
  9. Hi Stubby47 Yes drabness is the look I'm trying to create, hence the name. Thanks Shaun.
  10. Hi Rich, Drabford has ideas from several places, it was the high walls at Bradford Interchange that I wanted along the back scene. My walls will have the height like Bradford but I am also using many ideas from Sheffield walls such as the tunnel portal and the red brick work across the top. The Scalescenes Clasp building looks good, but I am scratch building my own version based on this one at Nottingham. Its looking neglected. Thanks Shaun.
  11. Nice weathering. Looks awesome.
  12. Hi to all and thanks to those that rated. Thanks to Simon for liking my track plan. More progress with the retaining walls and starting to cover the tunnel entrance. I'm using Slaters plasticard on the portal as I want this to have larger stone work, like the road bridge in the distance. Two Railfreight vans waiting for the next pick up. Note the tab behind the shed to slide open or close the door. The sleepers with ballast are an experiment to look like the track used to carry on against platform 2 that has been removed. I want the area to have a run down feel about it. Thanks for looking Shaun
  13. Hi all, and thanks to aussiebrman for commenting and those that liked. Progress with the angled retaining wall, adding the plasticard from Southeastern Finecast. Adding the lintel, with the strip of MDF with saw cuts I have also added the buffer stops for the truncated lines. Thanks for looking Shaun.
  14. Hi to all , thanks to those that liked, and Psiborg thanks mate. More building work with the retaining walls, adding the lean part using 1mm ply pieces cut to size for each section with a spacer on the baseboard surface to glue to. The pillars are 3mm mdf left overs. Its all glued together with UHU. The white strip of mdf is face side so I can mark at intervals for the stone lintel detail .This will be done with a saw blade before adding, its time consuming but it will be worth it when finished. I didn't plan to have a signal box but thought would add more interest, so i had to make a start as I was unsure how it would all fit in. Had to move wall back a little but a design change with the arches will add more interest. All scratch built apart from the Ratio ladder Roof tiles made from card strips and window frames are micro strip. The BR truck is the site for a clasp building for BR staff. Thanks for looking more soon Shaun.
  15. In my first post I mentioned I got a lot of inspiration from Bradford Interchange, the retaining walls would be ideal to hide the fiddle yard behind. But the problem was the access track to the fiddle yard, and more ideas were needed. I started looking at other stations with retaining walls and Sheffield had the answer. The tunnels at the south end. The mdf retaining walls and tunnel are starting to take shape Thanks for looking
  16. Water tower As mentioned in post 6, Matt started to construct the water tower and made the water tank, but then Simon took over for the supporting framework. Brass rod was used for the legs, and the cross bars are microstrip. Plastic rod was used for the centre water pipe, and a Ratio signal ladder with hoops added, with additional microstrip for the ladder cage. A running session in the blue era with the new water tank. The paintwork on the retaining walls has also been completed Then the water tower was sprayed with grey primer More updates soon Scooby71
  17. Hi to all The road bridge and retaining wall construction is well underway using 3mm mdf board glued in place with UHU. The retaining walls will be made from two layers, the first being the upright and the second part to be added later will give the wall a lean effect. Other details like supports and capping will also be added. The road bridge is being covered with Slaters embossed stone wall sheet. This bridge will act as the scenic break, but it is presumed the tracks were former running lines but have been truncated and are now used for stabling. This also gives me an option to extend the layout at a later date with an additional fiddle yard to increase operation and stock. More updates soon Shaun
  18. Progress update. The control panel is made from a sheet of plasticard mounted to board with track diagram made with car lining tape. It is hinged for easy access to the wiring. The panel will be hidden from view with the retaining walls. Point operation is via stud and electric pencil method. I have added an extra bolt on piece to accommodate the E-z controller.
  19. Hi to all, and thanks Aussiebrman for your comments Here's three pictures put together to show the whole of the track plan. The red line is where the retaining wall shall be. The fiddle yard will be accessed through a tunnel. Thanks for looking Shaun.
  20. Platform finished with sign and BR posters added. Still have canopy supports to add.
  21. Hi to all My previous layouts Maidens Dale, Heanor South and Ripley were 1960s steam and green diesel era, with DC operation. But its time for a change into the 70s,80s blue era with DCC operation. So I purchased a second hand Bachmann digital passenger set, which includes the E-Z Command Digital controller, a class 25, two blue and grey MK2s, an oval of track. So the oval is getting boring now, its time to build a layout. The layout length is 9 ft, made from three 3 ft boards and 1ft, 4 inch width. Drabford is a fictional place, with many ideas taken from real locations. The name Drabford is a anagram made from Bradford where the interchange station gave much inspiration for the track plans and operation, mostly of how it used to be in the days of parcels trains and locos using run rounds. A track plan was made for the interchange but it would have been too big to model in the 9ft available, so more ideas came from a visit to Glossop. This is where I decided to use the building for my terminus The building is made from Slaters embossed sheet glued onto hardboard with bits of an old Airfix canopy and corrugated plasticard . The roof tiles are made from strips of cardboard. Thanks for looking Shaun
