  1. Hi, I have a high level of skill, a history of high end model making and a very good range of tools, but suffering from a huge dose of lethargy at the moment. I fancy making a brass GWR steam loco kit but it must be fairly easy to build and fit together very well. I really can't be bothered to start running into kit design problems and having to remodel my way out of them. I'd like to simply sit at my bench and make up a high quality kit that builds well and look nice when finished. I'm looking to model a 7mm layout in a GWR modern preserved setting, so a nice GWR loco would be great, 61xx many be ;-) I already have a Minerva 8750, so something different other than a pannier tank. Any suggestions ? Thanks,
  2. Hi, Does anybody know when this model will be on sale? Hattons say Q3/4 2020. Is there any foreseen delays? Thanks.
  3. How many other brands make a 42 sound? Thanks.
  4. PM sent as this is now getting messy! No advice has been received.
  5. Sorry, I've had no email from you with fitting info thus far. Only to ask what loco I have.
  6. Hello, Sorry, change of topic half way through, oop's Yes, Heljan O gauge Class 42 Warship. Thanks.
  7. I now have the ESU, but I have no idea how to get it working as the ESU instructions do not match my loco. https://ibb.co/DrTTJbK
  8. Hi, Could somebody please help. My ESU V5 XL did not come with any instructions and the ESU website does not cover all the wires I have in my O gauge Heljan Warship. The speaker does not fit in the space under the loco, where should I fit it or buy a different one? Would it sound OK in the body above the chassis? https://ibb.co/s2G0ZF8 https://ibb.co/ncvLJq4 https://ibb.co/DrTTJbK Any help would be great. Many Thanks.
  9. Thank you 2ManySpams, You have given me what I simply couldn't find for days. So it's full steam ahead on Monday to Minerva now :-)
  10. Thank you Happy Hippo, I did ask this question in my first post, so thank you for the link :-) "Or maybe Dapol sell one as a spare?? "
  11. That is a good start. Is there any detail on the sides, like rivets etc? Thanks for the pics.
  12. I absolutely have tried the Google search, I've been looking for hours and hours and fond nothing I can use to make a faithful model ash pan. I don't care about the flicker.
  13. Hi, So the Minerva does not have an ash pan. I can make one with no issue. Does anybody have a really good side picture I can use to make one? I've looked and I can't find a good picture. Thanks.
  14. Hi, I'll be getting my first Minerva loco Monday and I was just wondering how others have been getting on with their locos form this brand. I get the impression from reading as much as I can here, that they are VERY good runners but maybe a fraction light on detail compared to Dapol?? I can't find much about problems with their locos, and what I do find has been VERY well dealt with by the company, is this about right? I am lucky in the case of Minerva in as much as I am only a short drive away from one of their outlets, so I can collect, so if this brand is a cut above the rest, it would be very handy for me :-) Personally, my only 'issue' with buying the 8750 is it 'seems' to be lacking an ash pan, can anybody tell me if this is right? If yes, does anybody make an after market casting to fit on? (if not, I'll make one) Or maybe Dapol sell one as a spare?? Maybe the prototype's is not so visible? Thanks.
  15. After much thought and a nights sleep, I've decided to send it back to my friendly retail shop for a refund. I'm going to buy a Minerva loco instead. They are local to me, so I can collect in person. So this brings this situation for me to an end. Thank you Guys for all your help and advise
  16. Dapol have got back to me telling me my problem is not normal and sent me over to DCC Supplies. I now have a DCC Supplies ticket number and just waiting for a human to contact me
  17. I'll see what Dapol say and take it from there. Thanks Guys
  18. I have done that, but I was hoping to get a quick and more in depth answer here as well. Dapol are never going to tell me that wobbly wheels are 'noramal' even if they are for them. I've had 3 Dapol 00 locos in the past, and they were all bad inc wonky wheels, one of those models even went back to Dapol and the retailer for fixing. It never got fixed until I trued up all the wheels on my lathe, then it ran perfectly. One of the other locos had to be retuned to the shop 3 times before I got one that was worth keeping. So maybe now you can understand why I'm asking here as well as waiting on a reply form Dapol and do not want to get involved with my friendly shop keeper. To be honest, I'm thinking I'll not take a chance on another 'Dapol fix' and just sell it on cheap and cut my losses. Maybe go for a 74xx x Lionheart model?
  19. The lurching drivers do not affect the performance at all, it runs very smooth, it just looks bad to see the wheels lurching back and forth as they rotate. Friends are everything and I'd feel very awkward and bad giving it back for him to sort out. Does anybody know if Dapol would fix or replace direct?
  20. Hi, I don't want to send it back to the retailer as he is a friend and I'd feel bad bothering him with an 'iffy' model. Do you think I can send it back to Dapol direct? Is this Lurching driver 'normal' for the 14XX? If yes, I'll sell it off cheap and buy a 74xx with fingers crossed.
  21. Hi, I have just got a brand new Dalpol 48xx and it seems to have a problem I hope somebody can help me with? When the loco starts off after a change of direction, the drivers take up the slop in the conrods by turning a few degrees (slip) before the model starts to move. Once underway, the driving wheels lurch forward and backwards by about 1mm when running backwards or forwards, this can be seen very clearly when running slowly. The driver almost touches the brake block, then moves away creating a significant gap. I have flipped the loco on it's back and powered it up, off load the wheel set run 100% perfectly, but once a very light amount of finger tip pressure is applied to the front wheel, the drivers start lurching. The problem is, it will always be running slowly, as it will be working on a 12ft exhibition type layout at eye line shunting around a station, so this unwanted driver lurch will be a big distraction to me. Is this slop 'normal' for a Dapol 14xx type loco or do I need to send it back to be fixed? Thanks for any help.
  22. Bought the unit from Charlie just now, so job done Thanks guys.
