  1. Thanks for that I really appreciate your help, with electrofrog points do i need to adapt them or use them out of the box? I also plan on a fiddle yard to the left  of the layout making a "L shape" but that's another problem for another day!!!

      If you are going to use the points themselves to switch power to the frog (and optionally to the track beyond) then you can use them as they come out of the box. Lots of people use the points like this without any problems.

       

      If you are going to use a separate switch to power the frog then you need to cut the two links under the points. The blurb on the back of the packet explains this and shows where the links are. This is "best practice" because a proper electrical switch away from the track will be more reliable. The reason for cutting the links under the point when using an external switch is that the switch and the point blades won't switch at the exactly the same time and so for an instant the blades might connect the frog to Minus and the switch might connect it to Plus and then you've got a short circuit.
