  1. Thanks for the comments guys .... These are Hornby track ... mostly made in China but some made in Austria. I don't know if they are steel or nickel ....
  2. Hi All, I recently bought some track that has been used with foam inlay (I think that's what it's called) as a ballast. I don't want to use it with that but the track has been glued to the foam and when I pull the foam off small pieces remain glued to the track or else just glue residue. What is the best/safest way to remove the glue residue and be left with a clean track. The reason I say "safest" is I am worried about using water as this may cause the track to rust? but I may be wrong? Thanks for the assistance
  3. thanks for the info everyone ... will get in contact with them then. Cheers.
  4. Hi All, I have recently purchased a used R8213 controller and have been using it quite successfully except for one thing ... I cannot activate Function 9 onwards as the train I have has got quite a few functions. Also, I have no idea how you would activate function 10 onwards ... do you need to press all 3 buttons at the same time? Thanks Victor
  5. Hi All, This will be a very, very simple question so please excuse the complete beginner question. What do you need to buy in order to get your train to run AND do all the built in functions like lights and sounds, etc ... is it enough to get a controller such as the Hornby R8213 or do I need to look at other/more items? Thanks Victor
  6. I have looked all over the internet and have sent email etc to the GNR Society ... but I thought I would try here: does anyone have some photos that would show more detail of this sign post and the bench below it? Doesn't have to be from Alexandra Palace (as this is) .... but maybe from another similar station ?!
  7. sorry for the ignorance .... I have discovered Disused Stations but not sure what NLS.maps is? Please explain Thanks Victor
  8. Does anyone know where I could get images of Alexandra Palace in the 1930s ... I am looking at modelling the station and platform but cannot find very good images and material online .... or I haven't tried hard enough. Can anyone assist?
  9. HI All, I have read rave reviews of the SL-108F track from Peco and it seems like a great looking track ... but I have a few questions please (complete novice here): - the SL-108F seems to be all straight track (or am I wrong) - if so, then - what is the difference between this track and other Peco Code 75 track, or - what is the Peco code for other pieces of track (like curves, crossing, points, etc, etc) Thanks for the help Victor
  10. Thanks for the links Dave ... will check them out Awesome photo !!! .... is there an onlive archive for this kind of image and others within that period?
  11. Yeah, I know .... part of the reason why I asked on a different thread if the SS had ever been used with cargo ... (I would like the scene to be quite realistic but if I could have the SS modelled with wagons - and that was true to life .... that would be three big ticks !!!) ... but it seems it was only ever used for passengers BTW : That chug on the first part of the clip is fantastic .... I ordered the DCC with Sound version and can't wait to see how close they get to that ....
  12. Thanks Jonathan ... appreciate it ... will do some searching on "75 bullhead"
  13. Wow! Thanks for taking the time to write this detailed response - very much appreciated .... need to take this all in. I was looking at potentially modelling something (small to start with) around the Stirling Single ... (may be too ambitious for a beginner)
  14. HI All, Brand new to this hobby, so please bear with me .... If I were trying to re-create a historic scene (say before 1900) would I need to consider using track that shows characteristics of that period or is it safe to assume that most track is old and has not had much re-vamping done to it? Is "old-style" or "antique" track available from the suppliers? Thanks Victor
  15. Hi All, I am 100% new to model railways and know almost nothing so please excuse my ignorance. We have recently moved from South AFrica to UK and yesterdy went to visit the National Museum in York and was blown away ... I really loved the large wheel on the Stirling SIngle and thought it would be cool to have a model of one ... so I started searching and was suprised to see that there weren't any models of it (in OO/HO scale at least) and had almost given up when I stumbled across this forum and this great model ... I have paid my £50 deposit today and now eagerly await what looks like a fantastic model. If I may ask a silly question please .... historically, was this loco ever used to haul goods or was it always a passenger train ? Look forward to many happy post, comments and chat. Cheers for now Victor
