  1. have now had a bit of a rethink and come up with these two plans.
  2. As the topic description says, I appear to be hopeless at model railways. every time i try to make an interesting layout ( at least operationally ) i always seem to fall into the trap of to much track in the available space. the board size is 1200 by 600 and this is my latest plan for oo gauge for some kind of yard period wise I was thinking BR Blue period onwards as thats what i grew up with. I've deliberately left it open at both ends so it could be extended possibly at a later stage. Anyone else's help or suggestions would be much appreciated. regards Martin
  3. Which post are you referring to?
  4. Taking your comments on board, the plan has now been revised to this.
  5. This is not a real slate, it's man made apoparently so no problem's drilling hole's etc.
  6. Hi everyone, The inspiration for this came about whilst replenishing the shelf stock for a customer in work. the frame is actually the packing piece in the centre of the pallet. It just so happens that it is the exact same size of one of the slates, so i simply came up with the idea of gluing a slate onto the top of the frame to create a baseboard. ( grand cost £0.75 ). the size of the said baseboard is 600mm x 300mm. Playing around in AnyRail I've come up with this couple of simple oo gauge shunting plan's, the fiddle yard would be off to my right (your left ). I was thinking something along the lines of Coal maybe? What are others thoughts?
  7. Here is a further development of the plan. Forgot to add period wise I was thinking br blue. So the 2 platform lines would be for dmu's
  8. hope the now edited plan helps now?
  9. Have been playing with AnyRail again and developed it into this. Thoughts anyone?
  10. Here is the plan in it's entirety.
  11. Hi everyone, after spending some time browsing this website and also playing in AnyRail I've come up with this n gauge plan for some kind of a yard. Cassette storage would be off to the right. I have been busy yesterday knocking up the attached baseboard out of scrap wood i had lying around and odd bits from work. if you have any ideas that might help improve it then let me know? Cheers Martin
  12. Have recently been looking at this brand ( one of Germany's oldest brands ) am am wondering if it can be made into a reasonable looking layout? Or is it considered to be to train set like? Am just interested in others thoughts initially. Regards Martin
  13. I guess I'm trying to do one end of a marshaling yard really.
  14. I did consider just doing a section of double track through some scenery, that's not of a perticular area. At least that way I could run almost anything put together and it wouldn't look out of place. Only thing is it would be the beginning of another roundy roundy type of layout.
  15. I could possibly extend it by about another 4 ft overall.
  16. God I hate English model railway track. It doesn't gell together that well even in the planning stage. My issue is I'm getting caught with the ratio of track to scenery.
  17. Back to the drawing board again I guess.
  18. Just wondering what other modeller's thoughts of this plan are? What would you do with it?
  19. Have decided to do this now. Still to decide wether freight or passenger or both?
  20. Thanks David, That's a great plan, now all I e got to do is start implimenting it. Any idea what parts are involved?
  21. Here is the revised plan based on your suggestions.
  22. Have now adapted the plan slightly, see attached image.
