banger blue 37 on a test train anyone?

It was absolute sacrilege going from that BR Blue masterpiece to Colas. Orange, Yellow and Black look great when it’s on District Line seat Moquette but too garish on a Locomotive. Especially one that looked so superb in its previous livery.

That is simply horrendous. I’d cry if I ordered one and it arrived like that. What a mess. The mud smeared over the front and what’s happening with those head code boxes?

Like others, I am so glad an alternative is going to be available.

Disappointing they have not modernised the headlight cluster when the opportunity presented itself. I also find the interior lighting in these units flickers a lot and tend to remove them. I prefer the train tech lighting strips for that reason.

With regard to 150220 and 150275 I notice the real 150275 does in fact have the light clusters painted yellow which may explain the shift in number.

I already have 150220 in my fleet of repaints though with the toilet windows mods already in place so if I did buy the latest Bachmann offering I would have to renumber and perhaps add the bold NORTHERN 2021 decals.

150275’s yellow light clusters didn’t last long. They soon turned back to the standard black, and were indeed black when I drove it a couple of weeks ago.

25322 and 324 ordered, and they wont be the last ones coming my way.

I thought the Heljan one was ok and planned to buy three next week.  Luckily for me, (but not for Heljan )  this announcement came just in time.  Ive 3 class 24s already and theyre the best locos in my fleet, im sure the 25s will be at least as good.

Yes, I’m going to order the same two. Could be tempted with Ethel as well, but it depends how much overtime I can do at work. There’s so many top notch new models due soon, Including Accurascale’s Deltic and 37’s, finances are going to be really stretched.

HELLO RAT FANS: Our four-page flyer explains: “This is no pipe-dream or ambition. This is reality. The complicated tooling is complete. The decoration has been passed. The running samples have been examined, refined and approved.” Fully-working models in BR Blue and BR Two-Tone Green are stabled side by side on our office diorama and display a wealth of intricate detail including see-through photo-etched grilles throughout, allowing framing and radiator details to be seen. © Photo: SLW studio

  6. I’d love a 150/2 in Running man sprinter livery. I know they don’t have the tooling for the window in the gangway door but I could sort something out. My mid 80’s in the north layout could really do with one. I live in hope.

  7. Dapol have announced another batch of Turbots, due in the Autumn.
    4 Dutch different running numbers

    2 EWS different running numbers.

    I think that would mean I had a 10 rake of different numbers in Dutch. 3 (1st run) + 3 (2nd run) + 4 (3rd run). Nice.

I'm so pleased that I don't model the modern scene.

These look splendid, guys, so very well done.

On one hand, I’m very jealous of those that do model today’s railways. These wagons along with their longer cousins look absolutely stunning. Then again on the other hand, I’m glad I don’t. Just modelling 80’s Blue gets me into enough financial strife. These really are fabulous times for us modellers. We are so lucky.

  9. It’s a bit frustrating because the nice gent was pretty open with me about what had gone on, how they felt about it and fingers crossed what will happen in the future. Just some of that transparency put into a statement would have helped tremendously. But it’s not up to me to suggest what they should do. It’s up to them.

May I ask what the response was in regard to what they need paperwork wise for the refund?

Just Name and address, invoice number. I just went on my footplate account and printed off the order. Shows everything on there.

    Gutted.

Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.

    its wrong.

how sad, but at £50 a pop I can buy plenty of inaccurate railroad wagons for that price.

regrettably my 5 are going back as of now, I actually had plans on 3 more.

As others have said, the 14 day clock is running down, and no word. If there was a statement I could be sympathetic, statements dont require huge amounts of effort, and can provide reassurance but in its absence, Unfortunately decisions are made and they are wrapped up to go tomorrow.

i just hope the silence isnt just about running down the clock, as thats a bad omen!

Yes, gutted is the word I would use too. I didn’t want to make this decision but £150 is a lot of money in these difficult times and sadly mine are on their way to the Post Office shortly. I have been patient. A week is plenty time for them to assess the situation. Let me be clear, I’m not expecting a solution here and now. I am expecting some sort of acknowledgement either on their site or on here that they are aware and are working on a solution. I know this is an extremely difficult time for them. Very damaging. But for them to put out nothing is disappointing to say the least. I can’t risk losing a huge chunk of  my outlay.
I will say, If they eventually get the Salmon to where it needs to be (and should have been), I won’t hesitate in purchasing some again.

Edit: Before I sealed my returns box up, I thought I would give Footplate a ring just to confirm what they required paperwork wise. Had a very pleasant chat with a nice fella. I apologised that I would have to send them back due to the dimensions error, and he was absolutely fine with it.

As sad as I still am, after my conversation with them, I feel a little bit better knowing that Footplate won’t be terminally effected by this and that a solution is been sought to bring us a correct wagon in the fullness of time.

  12. Oh dear. I thought my 3 looked really nice when they arrived, but had some niggling feeling, that I just couldn’t shake, that something wasn’t quite right. But until reading this, I couldn’t put my finger on it. Had I got around to posing it with a Bachmann YAA (BRILL), I think the penny would have dropped but I’ve been too busy with work to do that.

Like everyone else, I can’t turn a blind eye to it now I know about it.
Let’s be patient and see what the outfit from Kidderminster  say.
It’s disappointing for us but just imagine what the good folk at Flangeway are feeling?

If it’s an error (Which I believe it is), they will be having Sleepless nights.

I just can’t see it, (as it was bound to be noticed at some point) but if it’s been a conscious decision to make them short, they’ll be gutted it’s been discovered.

Though i'm still with you on the lack of Merlin, FGW Fag Packet or Barbie...

I’ll also add Intercity Executive. IC Exec, Merlin, FGW Fag Packet and Barbie ran for years and years.
But they happily churn out a full set that ran for what.., a couple of days on the ECML farewell? I don’t get it how Hornby and Bachmann sometimes ignore huge periods in time and choose to go with stuff that had a limited or very limited period of running. Or they ignore mundane liveries that were plentiful across the board and instead go with real oddities. One offs. Quirky liveries. It Baffles me!

  14. Going to be totally honest. Ashamed to say I have never come across this type of wagon before (And I thought I had a pretty good knowledge on rolling stock). Going to have to do a bit of further reading up on it’s geographical workings to see if I could legitimately fit some in on my layout.
Initial thoughts are it looks lovely. Very detailed, but I suspect It’s uses maybe a bit more restrictive than previous releases.
Nevertheless, superb that you are tackling these kind of projects.

I am trying to work out when 56047 got large logo, and it seems to be somewhere between Sep 83 and May 85.

As for 56086, that was delivered new in large logo I believe? It was in grey by 1987 and maybe as early as late 86. I just hope that Hornby don't stick the "086" on the cab front as it carried when repainted in large logo around 2009.

    Roy

It did carry 086 hand painted on the Cab front in the early 80’s Roy.

Still no FO in Inter City (charter) livery with white roof. A big missed opportunity - again - as they can be run with main line steam as well as more modern traction.

I always assumed this livery was one of the main reasons for producing this FO, but obviously not in Hornby's view.

Couldn’t agree more. Why do a white roof brake but no FO’s? Most odd.
Like you say, would sell like hot cakes.

  17. Executive 87 is excellent. The 56’s would be brilliant if it wasn’t for the liveries had changed by 1985/86. But kudos to Hornby for listening.

I have given up all hope of ever having a blue 31/4. I don’t get what the problem is. They have the tooling.

Does that suggest that the Class 144s in an early livery may be an option for the future too? I was out of the hobby when the first ones came out so missed out, then seem very rare on the second hand market.

See 143/144 thread. 20th Dec 2020, Charlie confirmed yes.

Edit: To 66738's comment above - the Hornby livery may be a bit off, but when the coaches are half the price (and can be found at nearly a third of the price in places), I'll take the slightly dodgy blue. I'm building up a rake of the Burton based Mk.2 stock for BR blue hauled railtour duties from the Hornby F's and it's going to cost me a shade under £190 for a six car rake (if Hornby do the RFB) - the same in Bachmann stock would sit around £340

Another way of looking at how pricing has gone is I can pick up a six car rake for the same cost as the express loco to haul it, which.... Isn't too bad really. I remember the days of £20 Mk.1 coaches. Should have bought more

Edited 9 hours ago by 60800

I absolutely take your point on price 60800. Hornby coaches are a lot easier on the wallet.
But for me, the colours have to be right, even if it costs that bit more.

I had a full rake of the early Bachmann Blue and Greys 2A’s, but after I had bought a full rake of the newer correct Blue shade ones including Kernow double packs NSE flashes and Scotrail, I sold the earlier ones on, as side by side, it highlighted the Blue wasn’t quite right on them.
I want Bachmann to do the 2B/C as I’m confident the Blue would be bang on compared with their 2A’s. They would look correct together as a mixed rake. I’d be worried a Hornby 2B would stand out like a sore thumb. I couldn’t accept that.
We have opposing views on what we accept, but that is what is so good about forums and indeed individuals. Wouldn’t it be a boring world if we all thought alike!

2021 Hopes, as I don't need these until 2022! Hornby or anyone..

Class 81, ACs are cool now.

Class 310/312 AM10 EMU - zillions of liveries but I'll have a blue and a blue grey please, 4 car sets, I'll pay anything you want.

MK2Bs. Nothing since Lima FFS! To include TSOT thank you.

MK1 RKB.  From steamers to today so everyone's a winner. (Babe)

Oh and some decent drop in place MK1 multi track portals and catenary to run it all under, but hopefully that's on its way!

    Good luck all..

I agree about the MK 2B/C coaches. They are a major gap in the market, and I for one would like some Blue/Grey and some NSE. But I think I’d like Bachmann to do them instead of Hornby. At least Bachmann would get the colours correct, so they could run and look good with the 2A’s.
I’ve not much faith at the moment in Hornby’s colour variations. The RB for example. What’s that blue all about!?
