  1. As I get questions form time to time about how these are rigged, hopefully this will make things a bit clearer? Jon

  3. Great work - I like your method for getting the wheels in. I wonder if the contact area where the bogie is pivoted, might be a bit small? You could find the wagons on top will tend to wobble with such a small area? Jon
  4. It used to be an etched counterweight, and some etched pulleys, but now it's a sideline from my resin casting demo. There are basically two versions either 6.5t or 10t cranes, and various crane numbers are available. Both types are now a 1 piece resin counterweight with the 'Cowans Sheldon' 'Carlisle' and a crane number cast into the back rather than etches - pictures of both typles can be seen in this post. http://www.rmweb.co....post__p__252876 Slightly strangely the 10t counterweight is smaller than the 6.5 t - in reality the difference is the jacking feet, as 'free on rail' the 10t has a capacity of 6.5t, and the 6.5t dosn't have jack feet. They counterweights come with a set of etched pulleys, and (if you ask for them) a small etch for the jib tie-down ears to be mounted to the bufferbeam. Cranes available Cowans Sheldon Builders Number, BR identity, 1984 allocation, Preserved? 6.5t version 7557, ADM 33, Already in preservation by 1984?, Fawley Hill (McAlpine collection) 7571, ADM 47, Shrewsbury, Mangapps 7579, ADM 55, Watford, Toddington 7588, 060976 (ADW272), Hereford, not preserved 8512*, 061014 (ADS 2008), Exmouth Junction,Swanage * 8512 has the jacks that 10t cranes are fitted with, however the counterweight is a 6.5t type, and the data plates do not mention weights above 6.5t 10t version 7599, ADM25, Toton, ? 7601, ADM27, Rugby, Quainton Road 8334, 083332, Tonbride West Yard, Titley Junction Sets are £5 each plus postage at cost (unfortunately the counterweight is just too thick to qualify as a normal letter, so it has to go as a Large Letter). PM for details of where to send payment, etc.. Thanks, Jon
  5. I did them myself on crafty computer paper - unfortunately I can't upload a word document here, but i've attached the jpgs - they look a bit wonky on screen, but are fine once printed. Jon
  6. From time to time I'm asked how we are getting on with Hamworthy, and usually my response is some feeble excuse about lack of time, but spurred by the realisation that we want to use the layout at the heart of our club stand at this years Tolworth Showtrain, there has been a sudden rush* of activity. A lot of what has gone on is underneath, but I've been busy with the polystyrene terraforming - its not all that easy to see in these snaps, but once we have a modroc shell on, it should take some paint... The entrance to the underpass/subway looking toward Poole/London The view from the (disused) Broadstone embankment Jon *its all relative!
  7. Lee's mention this morning of his fastfreight bogie etch.. http://www.rmweb.co....__fromsearch__1 ..has reminded me that I've promised to re-run an etched sheet I did to convert the Lima (now Hornby) later Procor built UKF palvan, to the earlier Gloucester/BREL built batches of van. These arn't an absolutely faithful conversion, as the various builders seem to ahve managed to build several different lengths of van, but it gives a bit of visual variety. If anyone would like a set, plese could you send me a PM and I'll make sure enough get etched - they are likely to cost bout £2.50 per wagon. The first run was done in 12 thou nickle silver, but that was a bit thin and needed reinforcing with L section, the next batch will be 18thou brass to beef them up a bit. Two sets of etches the etch reinforced fitted to a wagon - showing Lee's bogies In primer As a complete rake Discussion on the old forum about these vans Jon
  8. What else uses these? (apart from bobol's obviously...) Jon
  9. definately a step in the right direction Jon
  10. Whilst I have the photo's out Bogies - the hole shape in the side of your bogie looks gloucester, not D&L, the D&L's hopefully these two images show my point this one is actually under a bobol, but it's easier to see than on my turbot photo's I'm not totally sure about these other area's on your bogie either and only a minor point, but the vac cylinder bracket seems to be a bit off - it should be central to the cylinder (or v/v) yours is off to one side. SO in summary, I dislike the body, HATE the bogies, and there seems to be a lot of bits missing from the chassis. Jon
  11. in the right direction, but still a way to go for me - I've pulled this photo off my hard drive to ilustrate the issue I have with the door/end area. and looking at your CAD in a similar way As you can see in the first, the end post sits behind the door, and there is a spigot that protrudes through a hole in the door, for it to be clipped closed. In your CAD that spigot still appears to be in mid air, not attached to the post., Jon
  12. Does anyone know how busy the busses from Salsbury station to GDSF get? I'd like to go, but I'm still nursing a shoulder injury having fallen off my push bike, and standing on a moving bus, holding a handrail for more than an hour isn't going to be possible, Thanks, Jon
  13. Just as well your French is up to it, mine isn't - but at least Babel fish is my friend!I'll stick to photo's for the time being - they seem to go down well. J

    MRA wagons

Except that bit isn't fixed either - its top hinged and should swing outwards when the body is tipped, although I think we could do without the operating gimmicks myself, and would rather see fixed doors, non-tipping body. J
  15. Looking at the CAD further, it seems like there is still quite a long way to go with this, there is something very wrong with the way the sides meet the corner posts, the side seems to stop short rather than meet it, so that the pin that holds the door closed isn't actually on the end - I'm not totally convinced by the area where the sides meet the floor, but the images arn't clear enough to be sure... There are a few other minor niggles - no frame behind the handbrake lever, and the L section ties between the truss rods on either side are missing, the bogies appear to have a step in them around the axlebox area, and I'm slightly wondering if the bogies are in fact Glocester not the correct Davies and Lloyd? Jon
  16. I thought that Dapol had already designed that in - they seem to have left off the door springs from the chassis - see attached photo of what it should look like. Jon
  17. Well there might be too much Olympic coverage in general, but I've been out this morning and watched the road cycling practice event, and because there is NO coverage at all I've no idea what has happened. At 9.30 there was a 4 cyclist breakaway, and by the time they came back there were only two and the peleton was catching them (as far as I could tell). No idea who was winning - they wizzed past rather fast!! Jon
  18. looking forward to seeing the test print results J
  19. So does mine. I've had a few grumbles because it has once tried to make me turn left at a no left turn, and taken me through Nottingham city center rather than bypassing, which should have been quicker, but it usually does OK, and tolerates my general disregard for it if I think I know better... I wouldn't have bought a sat-nav, but the only way to get the ultra-big sunroof on mine is to go for the 'Navigator' spec, which as the name suggests has intergrated sat-nav. Jon
  20. We have the Road Cycling races pass the end of our road, as it's one of the few events I might have watched on the telly I'm actually quite excited, but as this is a free to watch event, first weekend of the Olympics and with British atheletes likely to do well I dread to think how many people will come out to watch. 3 days later we are actually land-locked by the timetrial bike race which uses a slightly different route. - I have no idea how I'm supposed to get to work... The practice event the London-Surrey classic is due in about 3 weeks time - we shall see... Jon
  21. Last day of the Swanage branch, but still a Rail Express Parcels van in the carpark http://andrewsheritagetransport.fotopic.net/p68706384.html J

  23. Hi all They still do' date=' it is reference R6004 current RRP £23.99. Regards Paul The Triang Cowans Sheldon handcrane was actually quite good, and with a little bit of effort can be made quite presentable. http://www.metropolitanrailway.co.uk/Cowans_sheldon_handcranes.html Jon
