  1. Exactly. Which is why I made this thread. I'm sick of constant failure in finding one and want an appropriate alternative, be it a workaround like what you mentioned Dickon or an alternative locomotive I can use, by Hornby or otherwise. I just want something because this is seriously irritating me.
  2. Better than mine. All I can remember is "Red sum. Mus sum." "I am Red. I am a mouse" isn't exactly a useful statement unless you want to make people slowly back away from you because they think you're nuts. I mean I am, what I do on here should be evidence enough of that, but that's besides the point
  3. Good idea. Only issue is its role in my railway kind of makes running a van behind it awkward. It's meant to be Kelsby's station pilot for the most part. And the short chassis was kind of the appeal as the loco is meant to be tiny.
  4. Made a separate thread about the ongoing troubles with Peter so I wouldn't have to keep griping about it on here and can focus on the more positive stuff. Also updated the mockup of it, not that that'll help the situation.
  5. Kelsby signal box as it stands now: Getting the base square was a pain. Not using the green base Ratio supplied as this will be standing in the middle of Kelsby yard surrounded by dirt and various such things for the most part. Also because I don't want to use the base anyway.
  6. Interesting theory. I'll stick to my fern green and Egyptian blue though.
  7. I've been having some... issues with a build. For those unfamiliar with my workbench thread (which is probably most of the people on this site in all seriousness), this is Peter, the No.3 locomotive for my layout, the Kelsby Light Railway. Or rather, it should be. This little... thing has been the bane of my existence for the past month or so since I attempted to begin construction on it. It has gone through several iterations but has never managed to get past this point. It is supposed to look, roughly, like this: Herein lies the issue. Finding a motorised L&Y Pug, Hornby, Dapol or otherwise, for anywhere close to a reasonable price, is difficult to say the least. In fact "immensely frustrating" is probably a more accurate term. And with Hornby looking more and more like it's about to potentially go under totally it's likely only going to get more difficult as time goes on. So I come to you, those who are more experienced and talented than I, for help before this little black chunk of plastic makes me lose my mind. Is there an alternative route? Are there any other very small saddle tanks I can use to provide Peter with a cab and chassis for a reasonable price? And that doesn't use that generic Hornby 0-4-0 chassis that goes like the hammers of hell?
  8. The first true KLR building has arrived! Bought for cheap on eBay, a complete, unbuilt, Ratio signal box for Kelsby! Kelsby station house is also on the way!
  9. Same. Why I use styrene or plastic kits for my KLR stuff generally.
  10. Oh, if I'm anything to go by that's normal. Don't worry about it
  11. I'd replace the steam ship with a locomotive actually. I'm sure the 4th Baronet would have had it changed considering how much of his life he dedicated to the KLR. Though yes, the bittiness is a bit of an issue.
  12. Duly noted. Thank you very much for that info. Might make my future work a lot less messy that the construction of Wild Rover was.
  13. Oh wow, very nice. The Bradleigh dynasty are, originally, politicians, though later they became somewhat less involved in politics and more involved with the running of the railway David, 2nd Baronet Bradleigh, created, the ownership and running of which has become the family's proudest legacy. The top half I'd probably split. On the left a heron or other such symbol of the Cambridgeshire Fens, the other would probably be their heraldic animal, which is a black ram. And yes, weird how that happens.
  14. Good advice. I can get a dremel pretty easily as there's a good DIY shop in Watton near where I work. Can probably get soldering stuff from there too. I can easily keep buying little bits like cheap body shells (also if I can find any ultra-cheap locos on eBay that people have missed.)
  15. Interesting. I do the KLR in the same way, except they also carry their numbers on their cab sides.
