I start my first post in quite some time with this little cutie:
This little 0-6-0T needs some touching up, but it is very cute. Definitely a good amount of Nellie in this loco's heritage. If you want it, click the image as always and it'll take you to the seller's listing.
Next up this beautifully made and painted GCR B2, a loco you definitely don't see represented much. If I wasn't trying not to spend money due to having a trip to London next month (and wasn't worried about wrecking the gorgeous paint job) I'd seriously be considering it. The layout the photos are taken on is also very nice indeed.
Next we have this modified Hornby 101 with custom chassis and ACTUAL SLIDE BARS, courtesy once again of the infamous gostude. My biggest pet peeve with the Hornby starter locos is how bad the cylinders look and this minor detail makes me smile so much. It just makes the entire loco look SO much better.
Number four is this gorgeous little GWR outside frame 2-4-0T, also from gostude.
And finally another LETCI from the same guy with the actually nice layout that the last couple of LETCIs I did came from. In this case I will admit the face they chose actually kind of suits the engine, but still... Also what is that white plate behind the whistle and why is there an Elizabeth included?

Footplate valances seem to be very fine bullhead rail.
Hmm. Clever. Very sweet little Schools, and hopefully we can see it running in the future.

The work on Berkham Station continues in earnest, but in small steps. Today it was this hedgerow to separate Station Road leading into Alnerwick from the station yard and loading dock.
Also has a rather nice willow tree at the end of it. I have no idea why the image is upside down, but I do remember now why I stopped using .jpg images.

Over a year later and I finally update this thread with some of what I've been working on.
This is Mill Cottage for Smegglesheath, which also has a windmill to go with it that I've been working on since... probably about August last year? The thatched roof needs a neaten up but I'm pretty pleased with it overall.

Having not posted anything practical on this thread since October last year, I think it's about time for an update as I finally got a small amount of motivation to do some stuff.
Most of the layout is the same as it was, as I consider everything past the bridge towards Kelsby pretty much done. The real movement is here, this board I picked up... from a scrap bin behind my work.
This will become the extended Alnerwick Quarry branch line. It was originally part of a setpiece from the stage production group run by my foreman's wife, I think. Either way it's the perfect shape for the Alnerwick branch.

This is really lovely - no relation to the real Nr 103, except for the wheel arrangement - the model has a very Caledonian air about it.
Johnson, remember to post images please for reference purposes and so everyone can see them after the listing is gone.
@Skinnylinny might be interested in this one! That is a lovely loco!

I expect the one in the picture was in black'n'rust.
The one I saw working at a vintage farm show a few years back was. I'll see if I can find the photo I took of it.
EDIT: Found it! It was at Little Ellingham Vintage and Agricultural Show back in 2017, shredding wood into kindling which was being sold by its owners.- 2

Well, we seem to have no takers.
Online I have read reports of people getting good slow running, but there is no way to judge how slow or, if there has been a change, or, of so, when it was applied by Hornby. The chassis pictures I've found all seem to show the standard motor mounting position with the single gear (the gearing seeming to be the original problem).
One comment I read was that the Bill and Ben chassis was the only one tamed by Hornby. I have a dim recollection of a similar claim in relation to the o/s cylinder 'Smokey Joe'.
I am, however, finding it hard to unearth anything sufficiently detailed, specific, concrete or reliable.
Perhaps in true forum fashion, I should have made a bold and unsupported assertion one way or the other, relying on the inability of some to resist posting a correction!
I just wondered if anyone actually knew, of had experience of chassis of this type of recent manufacture?
Well, the Smokey Joe to Y9 conversion I have is very slow, but that's because I replaced the gears myself.

I lead a lonely life!
A fair point, but for me the ability to turn from one to another is an advantage. Other plans had Achingham opposite CA for the same reason.
Of course, if the layout is realised, you are all welcome, but I had not anticipated any frequent visitors, as there is no one to visit!
Might bring my No.3 down at some point to visit his old home... :P

That Petrol Runabout isn't a kitbash, its an Eggerbahn Contractors loco from the late 60s I think and very collectible. Once upon a time all 009 layouts had a good proportion of Eggerbahn stock if only as the basis for Anglicised conversions.
4 hours ago, Nick Holliday said:“Wenhaston” is based upon the Southwold Railway loco, and is probably built straight from a Golden Arrow white metal kit, on a modified MiniTrix chassis
Well I wasn't aware of this as I don't model 009. Now I am. Thanks for that information.

We start off today with this adorable 00 0-4-0PT dock shunter. An approximation of a GWR 1101 Class perhaps? Certainly very Great Western, even if it didn't have panniers. As always images are linked. I'm finding a lot of these half-constructed kit and scratchbuilds, and a lot of them are quite well made, with this one as a perfect case in point.
And then once again we find ourselves with a couple adorable little narrow-gaugers, courtesy of mdtotallytrains-8. I swear the narrow gauges seem to bring out some of the most creative designers when it comes to loco building in this hobby. That little petrol runabout is utterly precious.
Third up is this fantastic NER station building, scratchbuilt by the clearly very talented clairegilmore75. She also has a matching goods shed up for sale, but I couldn't include photos as they were too large for the total file size for this post. I love finding dedicated scenery builders like these. We've had quite a few that I've talked about on this page and they never cease to amaze me with the amount of tiny detail they put into what are in all essence background filler at the end of the day. This is the sort of dedication and effort I love about this hobby.
And we can't finish off a batch of these without a Low Effort Thomas Cash-in, so here from the same creator as "Flippy" from about a month ago...
...these five randos, who are literally a bunch of starter pack engines, a six-wheeled box van and a track cleaning coach with faces blu-tacked onto the front of them.
Truth be told though, and I also thought this while talking about Flippy, what we see of this guy's layout in the photos is actually pretty nice looking. It actually looks a little familiar, maybe it's turned up before on here, IDK. But the layout compared to what he's selling is somewhat... disparate. I'm not going to properly rip into this person as I don't know if he's on this site or not and besides, I'm not someone who really enjoys doing that; but selling these with faces blu-tacked on (they are definitely just blu-tack, you can see it on the Caley Pug behind its face) comes across to me as somewhat cynical. But hey, at least we can get a chuckle out of it on here.- 4

P4 models often go for low prices on e-Bay presumably because there's not many modellers in that scale compared to 00 so almost no-one will look at it and if they do a bidding war is even less likely.
I see. Writes this down, making a note to learn how to convert P4 locos to OO.

Its an Iain Rice model I was lucky enough to get on e-Bay about 3 years ago. Its from his East Suffolk Light Railway. I managed to get all the locos and stock from that layout and I have converted the stock from P4 to 00. For the 4 locos my plan is to have new chassis/gears/motor units built to 00 gauge that will slot under the bodies and to store the P4 mechanisms so that the original Rice models can be reassembled if the owner after me wishes to.
You must feel very privileged to have some of Iain Rice's work in your collection. I sure as hell would!

this isn't a remotely serious proposal but a squatting 4-2-0 might be both a speed demon and hilarious to observe
Agreed. A Crampton locomotive with drag suspension would be absolutely hysterical and also kind of terrifying.

We start off today's collection of items with this curious but adorable little freelance petrol shunter. Reminds me a bit of Philip from Thomas & Friends, only a million times less annoying than my passing experience with that character from watching it with my youngest siblings. It's in HO scale, so should be passable in scale with my OO fellows on here if they want something a touch different.
Next up is this, which appears to be a rough O-Gauge approximation of an LNER Y7 provided by the infamous gostude. Not particularly sure what to say about this. But it's there if anyone here wants it. Though quite why it has the word "Playmobil" in the item listing I don't know.
Next on the agenda is this selection of interesting 009 locomotives by antiquetoys1, the same individual who gave us the green Mallet from a couple weeks ago. Once again, they all appear to be scratch-built fixer-uppers. Kind of cute though. Pictures are linked as always if you're interested, and the same goes for everything else I've shown.

I do not think any of us confuse miniature railways and what is real.
I prefer to see model railways and miniature railways as both being "Real" in the Pratchett sense.
