In the new year. I have managed to get some prizes but not had time to do the other bits.
Good so I have time to find something to use as a base then.

Apart from Hardwicke, the other arrival that sparked off the recent Premier Line Quiz Night was this, the 4'6" or Mansion House, tank.
I stuck it back together, and popped some lining transfers on the boiler bands. In the process, the lamp irons came off, but, since they are not LNWR pattern, I've left them off. I believe a centre one would be added in 1903, but, since these locos are not collected with Castle Aching in mind, I don't necessarily need to add three irons.
This prompted me to unearth the other Really Useful [LNWR] Engines I had. Some are a bit scrappy and I notice that the Coal Tank also needs its boiler bands lined. The Cauliflower has obviously been polished up for passenger turns!
For all my LNER fanboying I've always quite liked the look of the LNWR's locos. You have good taste as usual.

If, say, the government created a London and Home Counties Railway out of the SECR, LBSCR, GER, Metropolitan and the suburban lines of the LSWR and the lines going north.
As much as I am a born and bred Norfolk boy and a huge fan of Holmes, Gresley and Raven... Brightonised GER locos would probably look really nice.

Ick. Was never a fan of the way they looked.

However, as 1905 is the half-centenary of the WNR, another option is a Cavalcade, with all or any pre-Grouping companies participating!
An Achingverse cavalcade would be fantastic frankly!

Actually ran trains for the first time on the layout with scenery today . Still a fair bit of track to clean.
I nipped out to smiths in Sheringham for some track magic and the unfortunately had sold out .
I then went to bure valley and came back £288 lighter with a Bachmann 47, its nice but a bit loud so needs turning down as it drowns out the gaugemaster sound generator
Oh, you're only in Sheringham? I'm in Watton so you're only about an hour away from me as the crow flies. Even if you're not Norfolk born, always nice to see someone who lives local to me.
Some lovely shots of your layout there, especially the bridge shot with the Class 04. -
I have one, and it's not VD related either.
A magician was working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. The audience would be different each week, so the magician simply performed the same tricks over and over again. There was only one problem: The captain’s pet parrot saw the shows every week and began to understand what the magician did in every trick. Once he understood that, he started shouting out in the middle of the show.
“Look, it’s not the same hat!” “Look, he’s hiding the flowers under the table!” “Hey, why are all the cards the Ace of Spades?”
The magician was furious but couldn’t do anything, it was the captain’s parrot after all.
One day the ship had an accident and sank. The magician found himself on a piece of wood in the middle of the ocean and, of course, the parrot was by his side.
They stared at each other with hate, but did not utter a word. This went on for several days. After a week the parrot finally said: “Okay, I give up. What’d you do with the boat?”

I'm seeing Norwich, Yarmouth South Town, Lowestoft and Ipswich with a bit of Reedham?. Magnificent.
I agree. Definitely Norwich with that station building and the platform layout. The layout of the yard is very Yarmouth, seeing a bit of King's Lynn in there too. As someone who's Norfolk born and bred, I can definitely say you've nailed the atmosphere as well @russ p.

More work on the Mallet, after a lot of experimentation on the mk1 print I've chosen a top coat colour. it's a 50:50 mix of Vallejo Air Yellow Olive and MIG Russian Green applied in several thin coats. The colour change is subtle but I far prefer the new green on the tanks and boiler to the original spray painted colour on the smokebox
Once the green was dry the smokebox and running board were painted in Vallejo Black, lightened with some beige so it isn't a flat black colour, the cab interior was painted in a beige colour with the pipework and gauges picked out in gold and white
I did not enjoy painting the top of the tanks black, I kept getting overpaint on the boiler and couldn't mask it off, still I got there eventually and also painted the cab window frames brown
Finally on the painting I started adding further colours like the red buffer beams, gold bands on the smokebox and backhead and the silver smokebox hinges and ring around the door, along with gluing on some detail parts
The next steps are to add weight into the tanks and dome, glue on the remaining detail parts and the cab then add the pipework from the cab to the top feed
Lovely work as always Adam! Kind of tempted to ask for a second one to buy from you! Very much look forward to seeing it run!

I bought it for £8 so I think that's a fair price. The paintwork (weathering?) has a lovely patina to it and its clearly very old so I plan to keep the imaginary livery and expend some TLC on the interior and replace the broken brake gear. I've already swapped the EM wheels out for 00.
It is a lovely wagon. Kind of looks like something I'd make to be honest - plausible but not quite matching anything specific.

All these are just reminding me that I really need to come up with something myself.

What I like about this thread is that it explores what is often a very unusual side to the hobby, the wild ideas people have had, the inventiveness and (it's so easy to use cliches) the "thinking outside the box" - there- I've used one. Each and every one of the models on this thread is not just an example of someone's creativity - which is, after all, what RMWeb is all about - but is also a chance to own a model that someone's put a bit of their heart and soul into. A piece of art. Something someone's thought long and hard about - at night, on the bus, walking the dog - where and whenever- that person has contemplated at length how to recreate a detail or shape from whatever materials they've got or can imagine. I've really enjoyed this thread - keep up the good work!
Thanks. After all, celebrating that sort of thing is what this thread is all about! That and laughing at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Both of those are gorgeous, Johnson! Very nice.
And to be fair, this thread was never intended purely for eBay, but any unusual scratchbuild or kitbash creations found via the internet or "in the wild" out there, though the latter is harder these days considering The Big Coof. Be they for sale or just stuff you found, all are welcome here so long as you're not just posting random content from your workbench. Since you found those two on eBay and they are genuinely really interesting things not of your own creation and that haven't been broadcast all over the shop, it's fine.- 1

End of life as we know it, so nothing much
? I have no context for this.
Sorry for vanishing for so long. My mental state at the time and the endless political talk just weren't gelling well. The Kelsby Light Railway has been going along well though, as you might have seen from my other threads.- 1

After a year and a half (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) of absence, the Village Alchemist comes in from the cold.
"Hello guys. Been a while. What did I miss?"

A little clip of KLR No.7 Gremlin running through Kelsby yard to the sheds. Decided to video this as I was using Gremlin as a transporter for some of my materials while working on the other end of the layout on Berkham yard.

Mmm. Henry.
There's a few RWS modellers I know that might be interested in this.
Have a weird GWR 101 (I think) knockoff with a terrifying repainted Duck face.
Next up is this rather badly painted half-completed attempt at a TVS Duncan. Like the colour, hate the finish.
I really do find some weird crap for this thread.
A Bachmann Santa Fe diesel with Snoopy painted on the side (that said, the Snoopy is painted really well.) It's one of those things where I sit there and think "Well, it's interesting, but why does this exist?" If I could talk to the person who made this to see what gave them the idea for this, I really would love to.
On to something a bit more practical for most of the people on this thread. Here's a OO scale engineer's crane, made out of a cheap toy digger and some odds and ends. I'm actually a real fan of this, as this is very much the sort of thing I can genuinely see existing on a small railway somewhere as a track maintenance tool or something like that.
Onto buildings now, and I found this lovely little scratchbuilt post office which... honestly puts me in mind of the local one to where I used to live in Great Ellingham. It is a gorgeous little structure.
Then there's this gorgeous scratchbuilt pithead, which looks very nice despite the shaky low-qual photography. I can also think of a few people that could have some use for this.

Looking good and making me more convinced that I need to actually do some modelling again - Recent activities have been mostly 12ins/ft scale.
Fair.
Reminds me, you still need to send me that M&GN A Class.

Your Dad's backscenes are really nice Red.
I'd hope so, he paints this kind of thing for a living!
Joking aside, he's just doing these as something to do when he's bored. As such they'll pop in as and when he finishes them.
