  1. Yes, you are right. Especially as I have all the birch ply waiting.
  2. Not much modelling done so far this year, but I did get my Cerestar hopper to an almost finished state before Christmas. I still need to make the end ladders, and paint the solebar black and a add few other details. This started life as an EFE clay tiger, and two Accurascale PCAs.
  3. 37 373 'Lightning' works its way through Farkham with a steel train. (Video uploaded to my facebook page). DCC wiring is coming along now. Three scenic boards finished now.
  4. The first two scenic boards have now been rewired for DCC, and the tortoise motors are now controlled via the Lenz handheld/LS150. The third board is now in place and ready for a clean, before rewiring resumes. Some bits have come loose in the house move, but nothing that can't be glued back in place.
  5. Could a future class 153 be a worthy venture for you? The Hornby one is both dated and has inaccuracies.
  6. The first two boards are now operational under dcc control via a Lenz Set100. The first board has four tortoise motors which are now controlled via an LS150. The diodes convert the AC to DC, which is required to run the tortoise motors.
  7. I'd take a regi rail 153 in 4mm. I have a Hornby one, but it's never been out of the box because it's just a bit naff.
  8. That's two boards up. New legs constructed for board one too. No spider pics today.
  9. The layout has been stored since March, while we moved house. Board one has now been cleaned of cobwebs, and some minor damage has been noted. Work will now start on rewiring the layout for DCC control.
  10. We have moved house now, but model railways has taken a back seat while we do some renovation work. However, some driver training has started and I suspect a 'trainset' will be constructed in readiness for Christmas.
  11. I don't think my budget will allow me to replicate this working... https://youtu.be/E9tIMIY_6sM sorry i cant seem to embed the video from my phone
  12. As I had to buy the non sound version and retro fit too, could you explain or show a photo of how the speaker is secured on the sound fitted version?
  13. Are they all going to arrive at the same time? Or will they arrive in batches?
  14. I think we can make it work. At least, that is the plan still. I recon a double track down one side will give enough space to move around, and will allow trains to work through sections as they approach the scenic part.
  15. Sorry for the lack of updates. Farkham is all packed up, as is all my stock. We're moving house, which was unexpected, but a sensible next step for the family. Farkham will have a new home, which will need some work before the layout can be rehomed. There are two loft areas above the garage and part of the house, which will be knocked through to make two joining rooms of 24' in length each. One for the scenic section, and one for the fiddle yard.
  16. Day 59 of 365: Today has been long at work, so tonight after the bedtime routine, I really did think I couldn't be bothered. However, I sat for half hour pondering before starting a ZDA BASS. The masked area will be yellow with Bass text. The railfreight and BR logos have been blanked out with black paint, and the data panel has also had some black paint ready lettering.
  17. Day 58 of 365: Not much done tonight due to Monday workload. The ZGV tube has had vac pipes, instanter couplings and the steps/brake lever picked out with white paint. I'm going to have to get creative with the transfers, as I don't think there's anything off the shelf for the Satlink Western. I might end up printing my own.
  18. Day 57 of 365: The ZGV Satlink tube has had its chassis painted black and 58 013 has had all the glazing masked ready for matt varnish and weathering.
  19. Becoming a parent is the single most, hardest thing I've ever done. I'm grateful there's two of us, and for the little spare time I have to get some modelling done.
  20. Day 56 of 365: The tube has been masked up and I've sprayed the faded red/pink. The colour was again a mix of red, yellow and white to get something close to this prototype photo : https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brtube/h357bcc ac
  21. Day 55 of 365: Numbers applied to the class 58 this afternoon so it's starting to take shape. 58 013 was one of the last 58's to be painted triple grey, and the photo I have shows it in a filthy state. Looking forward to weathering this one.
  22. Day 54 of 365: Airbrush day; The 58 has had the door primed, and then painted with Army Painter Ash Grey. Then once dry, I masked the lower half up and mixed Ash Grey with a small amount of Charcoal Grey to get a colour I was happy with. The yellow cab sides also had a coat of gloss varnish ready for numbers to be applied. The tube also had a coat of Vallejo Grey Primer, and once dry I mixed yellow and white for a faded appearance.
  23. Day 53 of 365: Day off tomorrow so the 58 has been masked ready for spraying. The tube wagon can also get some paint at the same time too.
  24. Day 52 of 365: Looking through books today and I found a photo of 58013 in Railfreight livery, but with one door in two tone grey. So I set to removing the numbers and part of the BR arrow on the replaced door.
