Is the ever a time when all of the coaches when painted in maroon were running together?

I believe the whole set was broken up in 1939 for the war and they never ran again together with the Observation car.

Mind you, Accurascale will be needing a beefy industrial to shunt these wagons at the Collieries... A 16" cylinder Bagnall 0-6-0ST comes to mind...

or a Lambton Tank,  that is plenty of beef!

I'd like a NER T3 or Q7,  need something North Eastern to pull those Consett Hoppers!

    Hi @Edwardian,

We are due an update on these but are delighted to confirm that decoration samples are currently being assembled before shipping to us early next week. Once they’re here we will provide a full update on them then, but they look a bit special!

    Cheers!

    Fran

Looks like the Hoppers have got lost enroute?

We have released a few dozen analogue locos to our website today from unclaimed orders and cancellations.

I have more being released over the weekend, including some sound fitted models, so keep your eyes open or request a stock notification.

Yet, mine has still not been charged for and I gave you the details on Tuesday.

  5. Thinking of the Hornby Catalogues of the 80s, I remember there was a coach and a brake for the Big Four, the LNER were based on Thompson but the other three were Mk1 based.  There was also I believe MK1 and Mk2 for BR.  These were available every year and I suppose allowed the right colour coach to be pulled by your locomotive.  Lima at the time did MK1s of four types including Green, Chocolate/Cream and Maroon but with BR markings.

Today we expect more authentic stock and I suppose these must be produced in fixed numbers so that when/if  they sell out that is it until a further batch is ordered.  If other designs are being produced, the factory may not have the capacity to make that batch.

The fact that production is now based in China and that unsold stock in a warehouse doesn't fit in with today's business models.  will mean that it may longer not be possible to always buy the new stock that might be required for whatever locomotive.

  6. Basically a first time buyer is somebody who is not already on the system as a purchaser.  Fairly easy to monitor.

If Hornby sell direct they make more profit than if the sale is through a third party.

This is good for Hornby and if it means more are aware of the brand and decide to buy more from other sources good for other retailers as well.

In much the same way that most vacuum cleaners are not Hoovers!
Sometimes, a name just sticks, and such is the case with the 3T/4T wooden coal hoppers of the North-East. It is a colloquial term that I have no problem with, and which acknowledges the lineage of these Waggons.

    Best wishes,

    Paul

But do they suck!   Sorry my wife has a Dyson.

I'll preface this post by saying, it is NOT intended as criticism towards Accurascale or Locomotion. I'm purely trying to do some research.

My question is, do we know with any certainty what the livery of chaldrons under the S&D would have been?

Would they have been natural wood colour? Would they have been black? Is the lettering correct? Did they even have lettering?

Wood decays unless you cover it with something to preserve it, be it paint or creosote.  To determine which waggon it was, somebody would have to put some form of identification on it.  But as there was not colour photography in the 1820s it would be difficult to determine what it looked like at the time.  You could argue that if somebody had painted a picture and had used the correct colours, now some 200 years later those colours would have aged and might have changed in shade somewhat.

Totally agree. Talk about flogging a dead racehorse.........

I wonder if the new LNER has ever thought of naming an Azuma Red Rum?  Of course they could call one Shergar, but they might never find it?
