  1. That sounds like good science to me. And simply explained as well. Simplicity is the mark of Genius!. Lloyd
  2. Thanks. Once the baseboard joints arrive at the end of this week, I can start laying track and painting/ballasting it. Then it will be buildings to do. Lloyd
  3. What do you use for painting track and sleepers, etc? Lloyd
  4. Looking good so far. Without a photo for an exact comparison, it looks like the present structure, and the surroundings look like a good representation of what is there. My son moved to a house just to the south of it, so I have seen it a few times recently. Lloyd
  5. I wonder if the assembled intelligentsia on this thread can help out a poor ignoramus like me with a query? i am looking at siphons at present, and have the drawings in Jack Slinn's book on them, but they all show 9' bogies. Can someone confirm (or deny!) that when the bogies were changed, e.g. to 7', the bogie centres would have stayed the same? Lloyd
  6. I don't think camels of any breed make very good pets, though possibly slightly better that fish. Lloyd
  7. Excuse my ignorance (I could get a PhD in ignorance if I could find somewhere that offered it). What is the purpose of cork under the track? Is it just to give the profile for the ballast, or is there more to it than that? If so, would cork sheeting be used in a goods yard or station area? Lloyd
  8. I liked the first one until I saw the other two. The second one seems to cut into some of the end of platform clutter, which the third one nearly avoids. Perhaps slightly to the left of the third one, including all of the signal box, and a wee bitea more on the left. But all your photos are nostalgia inducing. Even the less good ones are good, just not excellent like most are. Many thanks for them all, and keep them coming, please. Lloyd Lloyd
  9. Tony, in GWR terminology, Monsters are Carriage trucks used to carry scenery etc for theatrical troops. Therefore the model that you have created cannot be a Monster in the proper use of the term! Lloyd
  10. And it is VERY much appreciated. It may not suit everyone's skill set, but it has been proved to work, so well worth considering copying. Lloyd
  11. And many thanks to all those on this thread who do suggest rather than tell. Knowing what works for others is a great help to those of us very much at the beginner stage and wanting to develop skills. Knowing what to avoid from mistakes made by others is arguably even more helpful. Lloyd
  12. I have tried putting http://www.doubleogauge.com in, but all I appear to get is that the IRL is unavailable. Any suggestions? Lloyd
  13. Thanks again for all the advice. Any suggestions as to where to obtain DOGA track rubbers? All I seem to get when looking it up on Google, is references to yoga for dogs. I haven't got a dog, and cannot see how that would clean the track anyway. Lloyd
  14. It was the end of September when we were there, at the start of the jacaranda season. Lovelly. Lloyd
  15. I wouldn't be able to help myself from just eating it instead of dusting it on! Lloyd
  16. John Sorry to tell you, but petrol is also carcinogenic. I remember visiting a (or rather the) petrol station on the island of Rousay (off the Orkneys) to do a health and safety audit. He got his petrol off the ferry in 205 litre drums. When I asked him how he transferred that to his underground tank, he said that he siphoned it. So I asked him how he stared the siphon - by sucking! What do you put for that for Health and Safety? Though I suppose he will live to a hundred despite that. Lloyd
  17. Lovely to see the jacarandas. Reminds me of my weekend in Grafton 34 years ago. Before preaching on the Sunday, I was warned that a kookaburra had a habit of parking on a windowsill and uttering it's well known call! Lloyd
  18. If I am allowed to pick the assembled brains here again, what advice would you give for cleaning old nickel silver track. It has not been touched for 25 years! I have come across suggestions for alcohol (on the track, not in me!), acetone, a cleaning pad and CRC 2-26. All appear to have advantages and disadvantages, and any advice will be much appreciated. Lloyd
  19. That is good news. Though some would be nice to have, I'm glad that they have all gone to a 'good home', and that the previous owner's family have got something out of it. Lloyd
