  1. Thanks yes sorry got it the wrong way around. I would edit the post and correct but it seems to have disappeared.
  2. Bishops Lydeard Station on the West Somerset Railway has a September offer of: 15% off all loco's. 20% off any 3 or more rolling stock. Maybe not bargain of the century but profits may help rebuild one of their big toys. If anyone's interested they have been running:- A couple of manors. A hall. 7f USA something. Battle of Britain.
  3. I'm not really sure what is needed here, but a quick Google of "model train timetable excel" seems to give plenty of examples including hits to the nrma site which may be of use. Also if you don't have or wish to purchase ms office, there is a free alternative called open office from http://www.openoffice.org Hope that helps
  4. I've done a few mineral wagons I glued the parkside nem blocks to mine http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=PA34 I then used standard Bachmann couplings https://www.track-shack.com/acatalog/Bachmann-36-030-Couplings-Nem-Shaft-Straight-With-Pocket-x10-Bachmann-36-030.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwk_TbBRDsARIsAALJSObjq3a9czOfUvR4QZvEnqkjAiuasXEAo-KqGd9UZrK-Tky6qQeYNgYaAmpHEALw_wcB For weight i use 2p under the load or in the van. Hope that helps?
  5. Are these definitely a copy? I've done a little digging and I've read enough to convince myself that they are unauthorized TCS clones, so won't buy any more. Which is a shame since they are better than both the zimo and hattons I've tried. I didn't find any official statement on the TCS website, which seems a little strange, even if it was vague legalese warning about unofficial decoder's.
  6. I'm sure folks will have seen this, it's a DCC++ controller that controls a DCC++ basestation running on an Arduino, think the whole thing is about $40 to build http://trainelectronics.com/DCC_Arduino/DCC++/Throttle/ If you go to the main web page http://trainelectronics.com/miscellaneous_projects.htm he has loads of projects, both DCC and DC. Probably any of them would be a good intro to electronics, and any arduino ones will probably give you a start on coding.
  7. Thought I'd got a duff copy when I saw the back cover posted through my letter box!!!! Only went to pendon a few weeks ago, I must go back if it's in 3d now!
  8. So I use only jmri. (Although with my own pi rather than sprog) The good:- 1 - All features I need are to hand, flick left/right for screens to control points, accessories etc. Although I haven't got points built yet. 2 - upto 3 simultaneous controls on 1 screen. 3 - As many controllers as you want for free (assuming you already have devices). 4 - Throttle control either by slider or volume buttons. 5 - Hardware support for a Bluetooth joypad (worth a play for a fiver for the joypad) 6 - Easy to see what each loco is doing at any time. 7 - Configure screens to contain only the info you need. The bad:- Not much really, I'll sometimes got to select the slider and rather than drag I'll increase/decrease suddenly by 20% Let me know if you have any more questions.
  9. If you are feeling a little geeky you can build your own system using DCC++, an arduino and a PC. https://sites.google.com/site/dccppsite/the-system I built a full DCC system as a cheap test for about £40 (raspberry Pi running JMRI (£30), Ardunino Uno (£5) and a motorshield (£5)), more than happy with it. Currently controlling it via mobile phones using JMRI throttle, but I'm going to build a real WiFi controller when I get 5 minutes. The standard shield will provide about 3A if you need more then I think you can get upto 64A (should be enough for most people I think). Anyway just another thought if you fancy a different challenge. Cheers Kevin
  10. Just been for a walk around bourton on the water and accidentally purchased a Bachmann 45xx. They have 15% off a lot of Bachmann and Hornby locos (in-store not online) So my 45xx came out as £72.25 which is a fair bit cheaper than most the online retailers. https://www.bourtonmodelrailway.co.uk/Bachmann-32131-class-45xx-prairie-tank-4539-great-western-green.ir Maybe worth a visit if you're close, or it will pay for a visit to their model exhibit. Cheers Kevin.
  11. Strange I sent mine back in an anti-static components bag, since the plastic packet had torn anyway. I'd maybe ask again, not sure they can insist on the original packaging. I'd consider the decoders faulty. Let us know how you get on.
  12. Nooooo there is a circle of hell reserved for Linux, it should have died before the end of the last century. Just thinking there are a lot more examples and tutorials for doing this sort of thing using wemos. I've never found a pi a satisfactory platform to control hardware, gpio support has many issues. Anyway just my ramblings, and would encourage anyone wanting to do stuff like this to have a go, the hardware is cheap enough and while the learning curve is steep, there are huge resources all over the web for any chosen platform.
  13. Seems like a lot of people have a downer on this project! I'd not worry about a specific design methology for this if you don't want to. I'm still a fan of fag packet designs! I know you don't want to use Arduino but i recently discovered wemos D1 which may be a good fit for this project. It has an onboard WiFi module that can run a simple web server, and can run simple html code. And they will cost a couple of quid. I've got one running as a WiFi throttle on a DCC layout.
  14. I also returned a Hattons decoder for a refund, with the same issue. Contacted Hattons initially and they couldn't offer any advice, other than try a different decoder, so I ended up purchasing a cheapo off Ebay which ran much better. If anyone else has this problem I made a video showing the issue, the engine just stop/starts at random with no control input. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WMswdCba2N5odpDlwgfPyZWNwWP9ceLW
  15. Got same letter today and it annoyed me. I don't believe they can enforce this, since it's against the direct debit guarantee. In fact at the bottom of the letter the guarantee states:- "You can cancel a DD at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society" I often cancel using online banking, since most companies make it simple to buy online and then provide no simple method to cancel.
