Tramshed. I wasn't aware that the Bulleid coaches were six months away.

I have not seen any news on their progress for ages.

No, me neither. Just offering examples of products in the pipeline whose 'd' value may be impacted by recent events.

    Thanks @AY Mod and Bachmann.

With the world as it is, I think we can cope with 6 month delays.

I think we can all agree with that. Worth remembering that the age/gender skew among virus victims has a familiar look to it among (I suspect) the RM fraternity. Useful formula: E=L-d where E = enjoyment of ones hobby, L = life expectancy of the hobbyist and d=delivery date of the hobbyists latest model. Usual form on this forum is to moan about the ever increasing value of d. Our focus now should be on increasing the value of L. If any supply chain capacity were able to switch from models to ventilators, testing kits or PPE then so much the better. Another 6 months to wait for a 94xx, Bulleid coaches, Midland 1P etc. will be insignificant in the long run. Many modellers of working age may find themselves on a reduced income for some time yet and in no hurry for their next delivery.

I doubt there will be a backlash. There was none in 1945 against Germany, or in 1982 against Argentina.

The world, just as China is today, will be refocusing on re-starting their economies... in otherwords.. everyone will just get up in the morning and look at how they can make money again.

Model trains are being manufactured again in China.

If theres a spin off from this, I suspect covid19 maybe the last pandemic virus of this nature, as the $bns required for research will finally materialise to understand how to prevent them, given how much economic* loss this has caused.

    * understanding the mass personal loss, but governments and businesses focus on money.

I dont blame China, Ive lived through this out there, and saw how they responded and prepared for it, the pandemic in the entire of Europe did not need to be any larger than the entire Chinese outbreak..

Europe+UK was caught naive, arrogant and flat footed, both in investment in its healthcare, emergency handling as was  government preparedness plus its execution... Some European countries have strangled this virus, but it could have been more. Whats worse, is a disjointed restart... which could just see countries playing pass the infected parcel for months on end.

So model trains will probably start arriving in Europe once more in the next few weeks/ after easter.. however the last miles to resellers, customers maybe delayed... and of course who knows what taxes, inflation, personal finances, exchange rate, personal incomes, unemployment will look like in a few months time, especially when the government £2.5k income stops and they start asking for it back.

A mass boycott of Chinese goods would be cutting off nose to spite face since the hobby has become dependent on China. Anyone thinking of starting an on-line petition may like to examine the makers mark on the underside of their computer since IT hardware is mostly sourced there too. People can exercise choice as consumers in some areas (like only drinking european sourced wine on the grounds that if they cant cut down on the booze then at least cut down on the 'booze miles' if only to offset the 'model railway miles' of their other addictions) but not all!

    Cheers that's interesting.

Can't believe I didn't notice the crests being different!

Crests on 70013 not the only difference between 'as built' and 'as preserved'. Following an accident on the western region in 1955 the WR allocated Britannias had the handrails removed from their smoke deflectors to be replaced by round recesses with hand holds. 70000 has handrails in preservation, 70013 has the round recess arrangement. I don't know when this was applied to 70013, perhaps others can verify, as It doesn't appear ever to have been allocated to a western region shed.

  5. Just what I hope is taken as a helpful suggestion for AY mod.

Given that (it seems) the majority of comments relating to this manufacturer/supplier relate to some aspect or other of its demise and further that until the last 24 hours we had only one post in over two months, perhaps the time has come for it to be removed from the Products and Trade area or at least relegated to the Smaller Suppliers section. If it is deemed important to sustain a postbox for advice relating to the advantages or otherwise of crowdfunding then perhaps separate it from the section devoted to this particular company since, as has been stated elsewhere, this could happen to anyone.

It works for me now. Much improved on the temporary site, the individual product information is expanded and includes availability, although only in stock or out of stock as far as I can see no months anymore. Out of stock for everything not in stock is not very helpful because you don’t know if that means been in stock and sold out or not yet available. That distinction would be useful.

Collectors’ Club pages also working although there is a message saying log in is currently disabled.

Surely it would not be too difficult to have three categories of stock status i.e. 'Not yet in stock', 'In stock' and 'No longer in stock'

One of histories many ironies. 6 years later the factory, along with so many, was given over to production for the war effort.

  8. Clearly a brilliant marketing ploy by Bachmann to generate more interest in their products on this forum. Froth and wishlisting can now be a quarterly ritual with the inevitable 'nothing for me this quarter' after each issue. Still there is always next quarter.......

Given Hornby like to get the most out of existing tooling, there are a couple of A1/A3s that might appear next year. LNER 2555 'Centenary' springs to mind with an outside chance of classmate 'Spearmint' appearing in its post war renumbering guise. Number 100 to save anyone looking it up.

I would put my money on the SECR 'Dancehall' van as it had a long life & would go well with the intricately-lined green tank engines produced over the past few years. Also I have an unmade Cambrian kit in the to-do pile!

From information supplied by learned members of the thread community and from other sources, the 'dance hall' vans went into production in 1921 (one prototype was made in 1918) and most emerged after grouping. The intricate SECR locomotive livery had given way to grey by this time.

Last year Andy Y posted the 2019 announcement on January 11th following a trade event. Reaction filled 18 pages of thread ending on March 17th. This may be no guide at all to their 2020 intentions and we wait and see what excitement or otherwise it generates.

Better to revive this thread for discussion on the O2 rather than wade through comments about O gauge Collett Goods etc.

Certainly exciting news and revival of the O2 project very welcome, particularly for pre WW2 era modellers. We are promised some engineering improvements from the earlier versions.

    Ellis,

As I don't model 7mm (budget and space constraints) it may be none of my business but your images sent me scuttling to find photos of the 1,435mm gauge ones. I accept that minor tweaks may be made between CAD and tooling and you are inviting suggestions for improvement. FWIW the dome looks as if it could be a bit bigger and more rounded. The one on the CAD looks a bit flat and square, as if it had been hit with a hammer or filed flat.

Wishing you every success with this.

With small parts like the brake pipes, steam heat pipe, vac/air cylinder etc could they be supplied loose in a detailing pack? With alternative designs so the punter can fit the option that steers the coach most towards his chosen era and company. The extra expense to hattons of a slightly bigger detailing moulding being balanced by them not having to pay to glue them on.

Agree with Trog and Skinnylinny on this. The only way Hattons can control 'specification creep' and keep the price in the £30 target area while trying to please most people most of the time. £30 sounds cheap for a coach by today's standards but given they are shorter vehicles probably work out the same per unit length of train.  As has been pointed out by several contributors, multiplying the number of body styles to suit examples from (say) 12 pre-grouping companies just ruins the economics. Congratulations to Hattons.

This is a great range from Hattons as everyone needs the odd 4 wheeler lurking around their layout.

Sadly, I doubt that it will do anything for their spat with Bachmann. In some respects that is good as it means Hattons are not going to roll over, but I hope they resolve their differences ASAP.

Looking on the positive side (some on here do, others less so), perhaps this might even help to heal relations.....

Examination of Hattons 'formations guide' we see the following Bachmann items:-

GNR C1 Atlantic in the 'Cambridge express'

LNWR Coal Tank in the 'North Western Local Passenger'

LMS 1P in the 'Midland Local'

Ransomes 45T crane in the 'BR crane'

In the latter two cases these products have yet to hit the shelves but, with a following wind, should do so by 2021 when the 6 and 4 wheel stock is due.

Free publicity for Bachy then and an excuse to make up previously impossible trains with their products. Own goal or olive branch? I hope the latter.

and, once more, lament the complete lack of public updates on this project ........

.......BUT the guy on the Kernow stand at Woking on Sunday advised that they're checking final details as received from the factory - so we may not have to hold our breaths too much longer !

Look on the bright side. If they hold to the original pre-order price, that's 5 years worth of inflation (and counting) you don't have to worry about. Buying RTR at prices of 5 years ago - whats not to like?

If / when Hornby produce a P.O.W. P2 is going to look much different in appearance to Cock O The North. Will it be fitted with the external pump system on front righthand side.

Discussion about a model of 2007 prompted me to look back over my file of photos. Admittedly not in OO scale this was taken (somewhere!) by my late father. The film was processed in March 1964. Probably taken in the Lincolnshire area but just possibly in Hertfordshire. Any info welcome but interesting that whoever made this did it in original (non 'Bugatti') style and anticipated the 'real' 2007 by 55 years!

I don't I'm afraid, does it show something I may be interested in :D? Have you got a link to the calendar?

B3 a very unlikely subject in RTR. Only 6 built and none survived beyond 1949.

If I were Bachmann and I wanted a steam outline loco to announce on a visit to the GCR I would look at something in that railways loco pool, remembering their previous record with (e.g.) the 'Coal tank'  and H2 on previous collectors club outings. In the current climate I would also go for something that required minimal tooling or possibly something that had the tooling prepared some time ago. My guess would be a standard class 2 mogul in the 78XXX series of which 65 were built and have not been previously released in RTR. They already have the Ivatt version in their range and may well have prepared the Riddles version around the same time. After all, they have done both the Fairburn and Riddles 2-6-4 tanks and the Brighton H1 appeared almost the same time as the H2.

There is no chance of me having any inside info on this, just a logical hunch.

Interesting - I wasn't aware 69621 had worn LNER livery in preservation? Does anyone have any photos?

    Thanks :)

For a brief period in LNER days it ran as 7999 after rebuilding with RT firebox and before the LNER renumbering to 9621. Thus its owners could legitimately paint it in LNER black in preservation, which they did in 1996 for the 150th anniversary of the Eastern Union Railway (which amalgamated with the Eastern Counties to form the Great Eastern in 1860). It was displayed in Ipswich on the site of the former 'Ipswich loco' (since gone to housing) along with B12 and E4 and GE rolling stock. Alas pre digital camera but someone must have an image they can post.

Not, of course, what I wanted to hear but very informative, thank you. A shame about the O2s in particular. A little on the expensive side, perhaps, and with one or two shortcomings but lovely models for all that with qualities all of their own. I console myself with the thought that once upon a time there were no RTR LNER heavy goods locos but look at what we have now!

I really hope that this is not the end of the O2 project. None of the versions thus far released were suitable for 'pre war' LNER era as they all had Thompson or BR numbers. The O2/2s never had a chance of attracting pre orders as too little information was made available. Two versions were shown stating they would carry 'LNER livery' but never said whether it was early or late (i.e. with Grouping or Thompson numbering) so I never ordered! I do have a post war O2/4 and live in hope of getting a pre war example....from Heljan or anyone else.

Although accepting that this project may be marginal from Kernow's viewpoint and that it is not a 'crowdfund', the order book for these road vans are still an asset on Kernow's books against which they can borrow to fund development of this or any other project. The longer the wait, the more the value of the order book erodes with inflation and the likelihood that people will cancel (not me I still have 3 on order). As one who is barely able to hold a pen, I envy those (e.g. cctransuk) who have the dexterity and confidence to build their own rolling stock and so instead must rely on my reserves of patience.
