  1. Thats a great idea. Can end up with a larger layout but by starting off smaller Note to self...... start small (I always get too carried away too early)
  2. Brilliant. Very inspiring. i am planning my first ever build and intend on building a small TMD.
  3. This is great layout! Can I ask how large it is altogether? (unless i missed it somewhere)
  4. I have recently been directed to this build for inspiration, and all i can say is WOW! I am beginning to go through all 400+ posts so forgive me if its in there somewhere, but do you have an overall track plan and sizes for this layout? Many thanks
  5. I think this is now my favourite set of build log videos on youtube!!!! Absolutely fantastic
  6. Can I ask what card you use and from where? I have ordered some 0.5mm and 1mm grey card from ebay, is this what you use?
  7. Thanks for this I have started following your build, it looks great!!!
  8. Thankyou. Yes i have been looking at them and metcalfe kits
  9. Thanks I have gradually collected parts in preparation so have the track and point motors etc ready to go And from numerous reports, for small shunting layouts, using electrofrog points seems a safer bet to avoid stalling It will be DC power the top one is 1200 x 400 so is smaller
  10. I already have it, and as its my first go, i dont need to have the most accurate or pricey track
  11. Hi all I have been working on a small oo gauge industrial layout designing for my first small build (while i get carried away elsewhere with my plans for a whole designated railway room), and would like some help, advice, comments and suggestions from people in the know on this topic. Other than i love the idea of sheds and work buildings i havent narrowed it down to specific type of industry yet, i am still at the stage of trying to get a suitable track plan so i can work from there. I do have a harbour/wharf section as i would like some water on the layout, and it means i also get the small bridge over it that i would like. I am a keen modeller so it is as much about the build as it is the utilisation of the layout but i do want to have shunting opportunities. The idea is a cassette of slider on the right for locos in and out Below is my favourite version (for smaller board) followed by my latest adjustment tonight to try to make use of the large space. Scale is oo gauge, size is standard plywood sheet size of 1220 x 610 (4' x 2'). I am using Peco code 100 track and points with point motors, electrofrog points. Please comment, suggest options or changes, as your experience is something I dont have any of yet Thanks on advance Dave
  12. Comments and suggestions are what I wanted and why I asked on here, so please all keep them coming.
  13. @Harlequin design is exactly what I had requested. i didn’t see the news for any fiddle yard or stairs he area bud now having seen it, I definately do. foe what I am looking for, it’s perfect layout, I won’t be having massively long runs of coaches. Not sure where you mean for a turntable or how it would help much???
  14. I do have a newbie question though.... Don't shoot me Which track will be clockwise and which will be anti clockwise???
  15. Hi Keith Many thanks for your reply and comments, they are greatly appreciated. And there is no need to ask permission as the whole point of this is for me to learn and get advice from experienced modellers so that I don't fall down holes that could be avoided, and also making sure I enjoy this hobby that is all new to me. I am sure that @Harlequin will be fine with people commenting as 5 sets of eyes are better than one. As you say, this is a great start to the layout planning and i struggle to see anywhere that my limited experience would want me to change or revise, as it covers everything I asked for, means much less work leaving the cupboard as it is (keeps the wife happier also), and has lots of modelling potential, and even future expansion. Any comments or suggestions are always welcome, thanks again for stopping by!!!
  16. I have only quickly flicked the first page and already it’s exactly the kind of atmosphere I would be aiming for… looks amazing!!! 470 pages to get through though omg
  17. Will go through this while I have mid morning coffee!!!!
  18. Yep you are right !i see how…. Didn’t think of it like that another beginners mistake
  19. Phil you have excelled yourself with this one. How you have managed to get everything I mentioned and more in that room while not cutting the cupboard, not blocking the door, providing a work/test bench is beyond me. i can’t even request a change at the moment as I can’t think of anything! As you say, the storage area adds a lot of flexibility, and even if I left it off to begin with and just had the two tracks running round. I could add to it in the future. if I wanted to scenic this area to make it more interesting, could there just be maybe a large station-like shed over the top or similar? Is this ever done? seems a shame to have such a large area of un sceniced are. wow I am blown away
  20. yes it is but its below the stairs as the section of stairs you see is the second part of the stairs after a landing
  21. This is great Chris!!!! And very much appreciated. I fully understand the layout now and it does seem to cover the aspects i would require, and have plenty of scenery oportunity, and scope for all sorts of future expansion if and when i see fit. Please dont feel as though you are under pressure to do more modifictions as soon as you can, i dont mean to be a buren, its all very apprecitaed though!!
  22. This is great thankyou I am sat studying it as i make my way through the forum so will keep popping up with queries. but i apologise in advance for them being basic beginners questions! Can i request that the points in the cupboard are moved outside of it as, even though i can use the cupboard, getting under to any motors etc will be a challenge. I understand most of your write up in the first post, but the second part of it confuses me a little (again being new)....... "From the sidings, a train gains the inner circuit via the crossover in the cupboard, returning via the branchline and a reverse in the hidden section at the top" I assume this is the train going anti clockwise, from branch line on to inner circuit, and going round and round until its time to come off??? "For the outer circuit it reverses in the hidden section first and joins via the branchline, returning via the cupboard. Trains can reverse in the station, using the trailing crossovers to gain the correct line on departure" My beginners brain doesn't compute all of this........can you be a little more specific for my basic understanding? Sorry for being a pest already
  23. Wow thanks very much for this. I didn’t even think about having the station on that wall !!! Food for thought. is there a way to get this layout in to anyrail so I can see what tracks has been used etc???
  24. Sorry, i didnt mean how it sounded. I meant on a full curve layout like that i wouldnt know where to start or have a station, from an opertional point of view. The same goes for any other branch to come off the main lines
