Another one of my projects is nearing completion. The Spartan has been detailed and lightly weathered. There are some front track guards to fit, but I'm tempted not to fit the kit guards and either leave off or fabricate a later style of flap.

It's seen waiting outside Swindelton awaiting onward travel back to its base. I'm really pleased how this looks.

    Till next time.

    Hi Chris,

Might have missed this but what colour green did you use?

In my army days we would very often paint our tanks, by hand or spray gun if it was working or available.

Chieftains & Challengers took some time to do, if I recall correctly Command Troop did have a Spartan.

    Regards

    Julian.

Looking good - I like the look of the later Spartans with the modified headlights and front flaps.

I've ordered a second Spartan and some military wheel chocks too, so looking forward to getting them.

Thanks Chris, they're not cheap but nothing is that is good, so really pleased with them.

Will look good on the well wagon.

A pity that trains4u have no plans to upscale their MOD flat.

  3. Took two the Granddaughters out this morning so an excuse to go down to the railway.

A set of buffers were sourced for the brake van so hopefully soon we will be able to offer brake van rides.

The members who renovated the BV have done a fantastic job.

For safety boards, will be added underneath the bars on the verandah.
This van came from the GWR at Toddington Glos.

Well, I’ve gone and done it again..

Rails of Sheffield have class 31’s for less than £300. I couldn’t resist any

more so 31420 will be born, which is out of era for my depot but I guess paves the way for 58’s in blue

Its hard to fight, miffed I never hung on till now paying full price 😪 although the yellow one I bought was heavily discounted.

Brilliant bargain, also followed your lead getting some bits from West Hill 👍

Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago.  It really is a lovely model. I wanted to depict a War Department trolley and originally thought to order the green model. In the end I went for the black one. Here is what I did to it.

    Cheers

    Hi David,

Looks great as does the track, Iv tried to resist but will get the yellow one when the sound versions come into stock.

I believe firmly that our great British manufacturers should be supported as much as possible.

Can I ask where you got the track from?

    Kind regards

    Julian.

Andrew is still struggling to get the etches for the ends and the handbrakes. but I made the ends up with evergreen strip. Its a little wide but doesn't look out of place. As to which is better, I sold my GJH one at our show, that should tell you may thoughts. But, its an easier build, less filling and filing and its a much better shape, the body sides are a better height, all helped by having the roof shoulder being two angles as opposed to the GJH one being one. When Andrew finally gets the etch sorted out I'll write one up. He should be bringing me another four to Barnsley in June, I'll have these two there if you are around.

    Thanks Al,

I will be trying hard to get to Barnsley.

  7. Brought 47537 downstairs where the layout is at present for a visit to the yard. I think its first appearance here.

This week I will weather it as its long over due!

No sooner had 9555 left it took its place.

At least they came with the couplings - most of my minerals are missing the 3 links which are prone to just falling off.

    Hi Hal,

Very true these have the advantage of being attached through the hook but just arent strong enough it appears.

I have had similar problems on their banana vans. Once you have fixed them they are generally OK but their quality control not that great. Yes they are a bu**er to sort out.  Are these the ones with the pins or the circlip?

    Hi Paul,

Its the end link thats comes out and its fiddly to locate link onto the two locating lugs if thats clear?

    Regards

    Julian.

  10. A tad disappointed that during the show on Saturday the Dapol VEA couplings came apart on three wagons, has this occurred with anyone else?

A challenge to reassemble with dodgy eyes.
