Rare event on the Hull-Scarborough line 3 ballast trains been down already today, dont usually get three engines in a year. Didn't unfortunately see what was pulling them but probably a 66!

Thanks Ade, very interesting I started this due to my electrical issues I was having. Im now thinking Andy was right ‘back to backs’ might be out. What this chap said was interesting in that he considered a loco to be part of an electrical circuit where clean track was paramount. Rubbers do clean and yes leave mes and micro scratch but I now am more ocd cleaning point blade contacts etc. Thanks for your pictures. Regards Julian.

Loving the weathering Alan, great job and the shot of it in the station is superb!! Cheers Julian.

Hi Ade, When you come to paint your kits, do you wash them down with soapy water? Nearly ready to start spraying my wagons and was wondering what to use. Coaches look fabulous by the way. best wishes Julian. -
Thanks Andy got to admit Iv not heard of that method before.

Stumbled on an interesting You Tube channel the other night concerning track cleaning. This chap was very much anti track rubbers to clean track or any product with silicone in. His preferred method was to use a similar product to WD40 ( he was in australia), stressing trains complete the electrical circuit on the track, they dont need the rubbish track rubbers leave on them. This then got me thinking just what do the rest of us on the rm web use to clean their track. Im looking forward to hearing what used out there.

No news on the water tower that is being built for me which is holding me up in this area at the end of the platform. Have sent him an email without a response as yet.

Very short clip of 37425 leaving the station. One unfortunate oversight I made was to start building the layout in this position which prevents me running locos off scene and into a fiddle yard ( yet to be built). I need to spin the layout around and have against the wall this will allow me to attach the run off board when built. As soon as things return to some form of normality the layout will stay as it is.

A first for me I have built some Parkside kits, there are many mistakes and my failing eye sight and fat fingers were a challenge. Certain parts, namely the hooks on the side of the sand wagon were so small and fiddly that many words not allowed on here were uttered!! Another first will be painting and then weathering them I have spent a lot of time studying and asking just how the experts on here do it so well. Waiting for the post to deliver some paints to start. To weight the wagons I have cut strips of lead to lay in the body these will be covered over. Regards Julian.

Hi Ade, Weather the ballast now I think, I was looking at Alans (Westerner) ballast on his layout and the colours and technique he used. Iv also to re read your thread on the building of the GWR Toad I foolishly bought to keep myself busy in these times, in between work of course, was yours a Parkside? Been building some Parkside wagons a first for me and although some parts are very small and fiddly Iv enjoyed it generally, they will need painting and weathering again this will be a first for me and Im waiting for some paints to arrive for that. If Iv got time I might try fit in some work

Hi Alan, its a Monday after all and taken a break from work so decided to read your thread from the start, if I had done so previously I would have answered my own question on track weathering. Love following your progress on your excellent inspirational layout. I bought the excellent Neil Parkhouse book on the FOD railway and it is a fascinating area of railway operation of which you have captured in your layout. My brother moved to Blakeney and showed me some of the old line last year, very few pictures exist of it. Thanks once again for your layout and help you have given me. Also Iv bought the Parkside GWR brake van so cant wait for the ‘great wire challenge’ best wishes Julian.
