3 walls of the railway room painted Albany Paints Bluebird (L). 1 wall, the long feature wall, painted Albany Cirrus (R). Left is for the stronger blues of autumn, when the sun is lower in the sky, and right is for the whiter blues of high sun and wispy cloud. Wanted a choice and clear background for photography The actual colours are just slightly bluer and brighter than rendered here, photo taken into a corner with some shade.

Mike, the first awl was painful enough, I'm not about to put my size 12s in it twice in a day! So respecting the aim of this thread, I'll put up some photos and notes elsewhere in rmweb. Perhaps a blog on the overall project I'm working on in Gauge 3, if you are really unlucky. Let's just say for now, I only meant solid in that the hollow box is moulded with all body detail integral, and a roof/lid fits on top.

Thanks Polybear, Yes a wagon! D1409 LSWR van, Mike Williams kit in Gauge 3. Excellent kit, as ever from Mike. Solid resin body but with very fine detail, as seen from the Real Thing just a mile from me. For scale, the drawing I'm referring to for the build, scaled from the book, - just - fits on to a page of A4 First rolling chassis in G3. Still lots to do but it's a start. Nearly quit there while I was ahead. Chuckling at the amount of interest in the kit, will ask Mike at the next G3 meet in May whether anybody's been in touch... Which course were you on?

Hi BG, Same mission here today as well. Missenden newbie, spent the weekend mostly gawping at the craft of fellow modellers, sometimes at watchmaking scale, while I blundered around with my Gauge 3 chunky stuff. Refugee from the sadly postponed painting course, but thoroughly enjoyed the 7mm construction course, especially with Kevin Wilson's help. Woke up this morning blinking in the not sunlight trying to process all the new tools I 'need'. Honestly thought before this weekend that regular rows of rivets were due to a steady hand and steadier eye. Rivet embossing tool, constant force and constant pitch, things I never knew I needed... Thoroughly enjoyed watching Kensington Addison Road at the Tolworth exhibition. Glad I took the macro lens along, such a great layout was worth the effort to get some pictures. Rare that an O Gauge layout of this size provides such a good depth of scenery, a perfect setting for models of an incredibly consistent high standard. Next up, Lee-on-the-Solent. Loved this model of a local station on the beach. Enjoyed seeing several models of prototypes in 4mm/P4 that I'm hoping to build as part of my own LSWR line in Gauge 3, including the O2 (already have a kit) and particularly the fruit van that was a regular sight at local stations in south Hampshire during strawberry season. Lovely view along the seafront, very nicely modelled Close up of the LSWR Terrier. Nice to see the quirky LSWR roof mounted push-pull equipment modelled. This was replaced fairly quickly by the LBSCR air-operated system after the grouping O2 207 with a short goods train. I prefer these low-roof O2s over the later high roof examples O2 with the fruit van, a classic local Hampshire scene in peak fruit season The O2 ready to depart Some local coal merchants

First time visit to the SHMRC show in Portsmouth yesterday. Very impressed by the variety of layouts and particularly how many were to finescale gauges. Nice also to see a good range of layouts representing railways from outside the south, including included L&Y, NER and Irish locations First up, photos of Hepton Wharf. Really nice to see an Iain Rice layout, built with Don Leeper and team. Astonished to read on the Scalefour site that the core of it was built over a weekend!!! Thanks. Yes, same if I take my layout to shows - always struggling to find time to take photos. I stopped going to shows as a visitor for about a decade, interests elsewhere. I've got back into it as a visitor and exhibitor, and I now take the macro and have fun with layout photography. Layouts such as Blackmoor really deserve time to have a good look around, especially at the brilliant scenery effects you've created on there.

Saw the layout for the first time at the Bexhill show yesterday. One of my favourites, probably star of the show for me. Great potential for long shots, glad I brought the long lens . Time was a bit tight this year as exhibitor but I took the macro lens and tripod anyway in the hope of getting some shots. There always seems to be one layout at Basingstoke that is an unexpected attention grabber for me, and this year it was Zeedijk. I have a soft spot for Dutch Railways, as I worked in Holland for a year. Love the way Phil has set the railway back behind the interesting vignettes at the front. Heel mooi!
