  1. The load looks very like an undertype stationary engine. This one is a Marshall: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-portable_engine This is a Paxman: https://www.paxmanhistory.org.uk/undrtype.htm Richard
  2. This is the best I can find: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=15&lat=55.9156&lon=-4.4521&layers=172&b=1 Richard
  3. You'll probably find they have one or two bearings, but not three. I tried to order three of those particular ones and found they were out of stock Instead, I bought three of these: https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p152878/6082RSNR-Deep-Groove-Bearing-with-Snap-Ring-8x22x7mm/product_info.html Blow the expense! Richard
  4. I found this: https://canmore.org.uk/collection/1124052 Richard
  5. Does that help? When it comes to units, I'm ambidextrous... Richard
  6. I just turned it down to a fraction over 8mm (0.316" to be exact) I could probably knock up a quick drawing Richard
  7. Well, Jun Ying anyway Wanting to bend some rail, I searched the internet and found this: https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/15932?page=1 The basic watch repair tool is pretty cheap, so I bought one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Watch-Repair-tool-Waterproof-Screw-Case-Back-Opener-Large-XL-Jaxa-Wrench/291524715999?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 The design of the tool has changed from the article on Model Railroad Hobbyist. Rather than use the long screws and bits of tube, I turned the three pegs down in the lathe to fit some 8mm bore bearings: I used snap ring bearings with the snap ring removed: That makes the clearance groove for the rail flange And it works!: Richard
  8. Playmobil offers rather more play value than a conventional 'train set' as it has removable roofs, seats for passengers and other things for a young imagination to explore
  9. Originally the Playmobil mechanisms and track were made by Lehmann. We have quite a bit of it tucked away Richard
  10. That's where I started with model railways I still have some Playcraft H0 stuff around, including a couple of BR coaches Richard
  11. This is where my kids started: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Zo-4001-Passenger-Train-2-x-Car-Steam-Locomotive-12-Track-Railway/253397895774?hash=item3affb10a5e:g:a2AAAOSwZFdacF1j Richard

  14. Told you I needed my steam tables (last seen in 1982) Yes, you are right! Richard
  15. I'd need my steam tables to confirm that, my gut instinct is that steam at 200psi is still well below the melting point of soft solder. And this tinpot boiler isn't going to get anywhere near that I doubt it has a seamed tube, seamless is easier to find, so the next calculation would be the shear strength of the solder based on the joint dimensions and the area of the boiler ends. Richard
  16. I noticed my second post initially appeared after Ray H's one, and now appears before it Richard
  17. It may even have been built to run along the floor. I haven't worked out how it was fired yet Richard
  18. And I mean slow... It is taking over a minute from pressing 'save' to the post actually being saved to this forum. I get a 'saving' message while that is happening Richard
  19. Well, there you go - long pistons in long cylinders And red plastic wheels by the look of it Richard
