  1. That is the reason they have high/low resistance switches, to suit "all motors". The half wave switch does what it says, gives half-wave rectification for very slow running. Modern motors will need the higher resistance mat or switch set too high.
  2. If these units are left unopened then I don't see the internal components being of any real danger to anybody. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. If it is, skip it. H&M went over to double insulation in about 1968 but still used the old type rectifiers until the early 1970s. I still use a pair of new Duettes on my layout and they seem to work very well with modern motors.
  3. As others have said, have a look on the "collectable and vintage" group further down. there's a thread on there about Triang standard track.
  4. Yes, I've just seen that having just read down the other posts1 Just catching up after a busy holiday period rail replacement bus driving! I'll have the same problem as I have loads of thin sleeper SMP and a lot of hand-built C&L points made! I wonder how Wayne's product will affect the sales of C&L? Maybe the 2 will complement each other?
  5. The simple answer may be to lay all the thin-sleepered track on thin card to match the difference in height. Have you ever seen level track? no, I thought not.
  6. The Model Railway Club's OO test tracks were originally fitted with the inner circuit with switchable stud contact, the middle circuit with switchable outside third , and the outer circuit EM with stud contact! I've never seen the outside third being used by anybody at the club in the 1960s, the stud contact would sometimes run Hornby double 3-rail, alert rather erattically. The test tracks were rebuilt by myself, Grovenor of this parish, and others to OO, OO with N, and P4/OO, dispensing with third rail and stud contact.
  7. Maybe the Tri-ang Group if there is one will have them as I believe Tri-ang took over H&M?
  8. They also had the standard EP brake as well as the Westinghouse air brake. I worked on them a couple of times when I was 2ndman at Kings Cross. Yes they had connecting doors between the 2 cars. they were used on the Northern city Line when it was being rebuilt and OHLE work on the main lines.
