  1. Last time I had a layout was in the 1990's with 2 Lima Deltic's and I'm currently buying models for a new layout I intend to setup when I move house next year. I do have a 2008 vintage Bachmann Deltic and while it may not be perfect to me its a vast improvement over the old Lima Deltic's and for me probably has the overall right balance between detail and robustness, the Accurascale Deltic does look to have great detail but may be a bit too delicate for my liking, as for the paint finish I won't accept blemishes and marks, I know in the days of Lima it was something of a lottery as to the quality of the paint job, but so far on the recent Bachmann stuff I have bought its been very good and wont accept anything less from Accurascale.
  2. So I'm still waiting for my Deltic's from Locomotion and Rails, I am slightly disturbed by reports of bits falling off and paint blemishes, and would rather have a slightly less detailed model without these issues so I guess will have to wait and see what my 2 are like and wondering if I should have gone for Bachmann Deltic's instead.
  3. Looks and sounds fantastic, although of course Deltic+8 didn't tend to have a BG more a Deltic +12 or the later semi fast formations which didn't have a Restaurant car at all, and ideally you would loose one of the second opens in favor of something like a MK1 RFO to add to the existing restaurant car😄. Unfortunately I've got to wait for Rails and Locomotion.😒
  4. Well I certainly wouldn't accept it, I didn't think we were back in the 1990's with Lima quality standards.
  5. Well yes but to some extent I agree with him, OK some models have been substancially delayed by covid, but I think manufacturers announcing models that are potentially a year+ away is a bit ridiculous. I am also very reluctant to pre order any model and did it very reluctantly with the Deltic because I could see they were selling quickly.
  6. Is it a crowded market though? from a Deltic perspective there was the Lima model which was one of their early models and isn't particularly great, the Bachmann model is much better of course but as others have pointed out it isn't perfect so there is probably room for another. In terms of the modern image in general seems to be a lack of Blue/Grey Mk2's and particularly Blue/Grey MK2 air cons. Still more room for additional 1st Gen DMU types or at least make new batches of existing types in 70's Rail Blue which seem somewhat thin on the ground. At least things have improved a lot from the days of a Hornby 37 with class 47 bogies. The one thing I find highly irritating is the way you have to take some models apart to fit a decoder in particular the Bachmann class 101 I find a real pain. So if the decoder can be fitted in the Accurascale Deltic with much less agro that will be a massive improvement in my eyes.
  7. Oh OK thanks, I ordered mine quite late in fact I had to really scrape around to get anything like the versions I wanted so I guess I will be at the bottom of the list.
  8. I haven't herd anything from Rails yet I presume they contact you first? My other one is from Locomotion but I had to pay all up front for that one so I'm guessing I might not even hear anything from them it will presumably just turn up at some point. I couldn't get either model with sound but I have an SWD Loksound 5 decoder for one of them the other will have to be without sound for the moment, but the issue will be which one gets the sound 55002 or 55015?
  9. Well an IC 56 could be quite likely for real well as 69 since we already have a Large Logo and a BR green one. Send it to GBRF🤣. But don't show a Deltic to GBRF they might get idea's we don't want well at least idea's I don't want.
  10. It would seem that as well as the purple Deltic the most popular are the latter year versions which I have ordered although my first choice was already sold out and Green versions with the small yellow warning panel which I personally think look the best in Green. I was around in the Deltic era and they were my favorite loco I remember going to the unveiling event with my Dad at the NRM when 002 was painted back into green for its final year of service and being slightly disappointed that they hadn't done anything with the plated over headcode, anyway I have bought that in memory of my dad. Doing a bit a research when deciding which blue one's to buy I had forgotten that the Finsbury Park race horses didn't carry the white window surrounds to the end but lost them when they were transferred from FP in 81. Of course the key thing for me will be imperfections and marks above the overall detail as they really annoy and coming from my last modelling period with Lima models no imperfections were like an optional extra you very rarely got.
  11. Wow that box looks a bit excessive to me, post wise most models fall in the Royal Mail small parcel size not so sure about that.
  12. Well the video would have been better without the music, I was a bit sceptical of the hype even though I have ordered two, but yeah ok I'm sold look fantastic, unfortunately the two I'm buying were not amongst the six shown☹️. Quite a few people seem to like 16 in the Porterbrook livery I think its dreadful not so much the colour but those Wipac lights, if they had just given it a central light like most preserved loco's, it would have looked a lot better in my view, but Accurascale looked to have modelled it well and its something different for the modellers of the post in service era I suppose.
  13. Wow that's way too expensive for me I'm reluctant to pay £60 for a coach never mind £100. I have some Airfix MK2d's which were good for their day I will be keeping those, and I have just got some Hornby which as has been pointed out the windows are slightly too high but look ok if you keep the 2 types separate. The Bachmann Mk2's are lovely but just too expensive for me even the non DCC version.
  14. Thanks for that info looks like my Deltic's will be safe from ebay then 😀
  15. Probably not, mine could be on ebay fairly quickly 😀
  16. Having a Terminus Station that doesn't work for me, and given how expensive the models are now I'm disinclined to start messing about with them these days. I guess we will see what turn's up but if I had ordered via Accurascale I might be inclined to demand my money back but as I ordered via Locomotion and Rails that might be more difficult. As for 55002 that is one of the models I have ordered but the version of green that it ran in for the final 13 months of service, it suits the modelling period of my layout and makes a change from BR Blue. Perhaps not overly surprised its later preserved state with the headlight may be less popular.
  17. That's interesting because the email I got back from Accurascale specifically state's 'The models will have tension lock couplers fitted at both ends', If what the Hornby mag say's is correct I will not be best pleased.
  18. So I'm returning to modelling after a 30 year gap, when I last had a layout Lima was the only option and they were an early Lima model at that. The only model I have bought in the 30 year gap was the Bachmann Deltic which was a present for my father and a vast improvement over the Lima model. Of course the Accurascale Deltic may be better but it's seems somewhat over hyped to me, and being a newer it should be really, I will reserve judgement until the two I have on order actually turn up. I've seen a couple of reviews on the Accurascale website commenting before they have even got them, totally ridiculous. Generally I'm reluctant to pre order anything at the moment because you simply don't know when it's going to turn up I would have been happy with a couple of Bachmann models but the price of good second hand ones is nearly as much as buying a new Accurascale Deltic, but I had to settle for a non sound version's as the sound versions had already gone on Rails/Locomotion version's I wanted. I have a good sound decoder anyway. I also emailed Accurascale to confirm that these would be supplied with coupling's in place and latest delivery estimates, I recently bought a Heljen Class 25 and was not impressed in having to remove a load of pipework to fit the coupling and Air Tanks in order for it to go around bends reasonably, that's not RTR in my view and I won't be buying any more Heljen stuff in a hurry.
