  1. I want to hope that this will mean good things, and so far it's looking encouraging, given the announced new items. I'm hopeful that with some time Roco will reissue some of Kühn's previous offerings (specifically the MÁV Y-coaches)... but then I've also been long hopeful that they release a MÁV Sergei (M62) in era IV or era V orange, but so far they've only done the era III version, and it's been long sold out and going for stupid prices on auction... so I figure I'll have to go the repaint route to ever get one. But overall I'm feeling enthused, I think Roco is a bigger power than Kühn could ever have been on its own ... I just hope they keep the Czech, Slovak, Hungarian, and Polish markets in mind with future releases.
  2. The finish to the Lazio match was mental... never seen a keeper head in the winning goal before.
  3. That looks great. Those old liveries can make any airframe look good... time to revive the cheatline!
  4. The Dreamliner is easily my favourite (appearance-wise) of the current generation of airliners. A350 is okay, as is the Sukhoi Superjet, but nothing else comes close to the good looks of previous generations (757 and earlier)...
  5. Those were without question MTB. The only other SW1200 was a brass etch body kit ("scratch aid") from Worsely Works.
  6. Wow, I'm somewhat amazed by that, considering the acrimonious backstory to this model. This is great news as there has been significant demand for this model (and certainly improvements to the motor and gearing are welcome). But I do have certain questions about behind-the-scenes issues...
  7. At a guess - the hemispherical thing may be the cover for the FLIR sensor, and the thing beneath it the laser designator for laser-guided weapons?
  8. To be fair it looks better than the Canadair-built CT-133 at the Museum of Flight in Langley, BC...
  9. Man, losing 0:3 like this at home to Stevenage makes me think Orient'll be fighting just to stay in League One this season... after last season's romp through League Two I'd expected us to finish comfortably around 15th to 17th. But this display today was pretty dire.
  10. It's the same McDonnell disease that did Douglas in after McD took over Douglas.
  11. TTj is indeed a thing but it's very niche and very expensive. I've seen a D50 steamer from Tenshodo, they were asking near to $5000 in the mid 1990s for it. There are kits, but those are also very expensive, especially in comparison to Japanese N scale models from Kato and Tomix.
  12. No, because it represents Cape Gauge - 1066 mm / 80 = 13.3
  13. My last flight(s) on a Mad Dog were BOS-ORD-SEA on AA in 2008
  14. It's pretty for an egg-beater, but not quite a Britannia.
  15. It's also worth scouring Scalemates or similar databases, as there have been quite a few civilian aircraft (and ship) kits released over the years in scales ranging 1:118 to 1:124 or so that would be suitable for TT... 16. In terms of aesthetics the 787 is easily my favourite current airliner... the rest look more or less the same, except of course the A380 which is just hideous to my eye. I miss the days when aircraft all looked different and were all beautiful, 747, 727, DC-10, L1011, Trident, Il-62, Tu-154, Tu-134, 757, 737-200, DC-9/MD-80... Edit to add: of current airliners I also do like the looks of the Sukhoi Superjet and the ARJ21... but then the ARJ is another Mad Dog, so.
  17. Yes. Most is big enough to read by eye, and the small text with magnification (on my continental equipment I can read the rev data under magnfication)... assuming Hornby work to the same standards as the major manufacturers on the continent, Tillig Piko Roco etc and their own Arnold products, there's no reason it shouldn't be legible
  18. When I've relettered Tillig models I've just used a soft white drawing eraser, and just rub *gently*... it will take a little bit of time but with care you won't damage the paint beneath, and then just need to apply the new decals.
  19. One doesn't often see snow done convincingly; this is superb.
  20. When I was in Air Cadets (111 Sqn RCACS), my intake did basic at Vernon. One day they took us to the airport to see the Mynarski Lancaster up close, then once we returned to base, they formed us up on the parade square and the Lanc did two very low passes over us... *that* was an amazing sound!
  21. Went down to the Abbotsford Air Show today and saw this parked outside the fence, 1972 Mustang Mach I...
  22. I waited too long and tickets for the Abbotsford Air Show sold out before I could get one, but on a whim I decided to go down to the airport today and see if I could see anything from outside the fences, and watch some of the flying displays (USAF F-35, USAF P-51, RCAF CF-18, RCAF P40... nothing quite like *feeling* a CF-18 fly over you just a couple hundred feet up!). So with apologies for the quality, I'd like to share a few shots I got through the fence that I think are decent... USAF C-17 USAF F-35 and RCAF Snowbirds Canadair CT-114 Tutor... my first time seeing an F-35 in the flesh. Can't wait to see one with RCAF roundels on! Two USAF P-51s and an RCAF P-40... the P-40 sounds lovely too, when it buzzes you low overhead. USAF C-5 Galaxy with Mount Baker behind (Mt Baker is across the border, in the States). I went inside one at the USAF 50th Anniversary airshow at Nellis AFB in 1998...thing is massive.
  23. I have no idea, I was just as surprised to see it at Keleti!
