  1. Knowing ebays policys towards buyers and sellers i could see someone buying this and complaining when they only recieve the 2 or is it 4 cars (who knows) and actually winning and getting theyre money back and the unit. if it confuses us it will definitly confuse ebay
  2. It apears to be the modern pretender to Mayflowers name AKA 61306 as currently preserved
  3. I've followed up and now. They have said they will pass it on to the ebay team. I believe the kit is for a gn j2, j3 or j4 0-6-0. Ace do all of them. I'd actually buy it if it was at a reasonable price. I've had a few kits from rails recently all from ebay and we'll priced hence why this one stuck out like a sore thumb
  4. I've contacted rails suggesting that this kit is actually an 0-6-0 and is in the wrong box they have just replied telling me I am wrong. Thing is I'm not wrong...
  5. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134852242482?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160811114145%26meid%3Dcdba5dd653324c51903d1329fa2cbd27%26pid%3D100667%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D134852242482%26itm%3D134852242482%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2351460&_trksid=p2351460.c100667.m2042 madness from rails. kit is for an 0-8-0 but contains a chassis for an 0-6-0. also the tender is a later ivatt one and the box shows a stirling tender. I showed interest in this as i just picked up the same kit with all the correct parts for £125 second hand they are £199 new! additional. having further looked at it i believe the kit is actually for an Ivatt J3 0-6-0 and in the wrong box which makes it even more expensive as the j3 is a cheaper kit than the Q1
  6. The one i had was the top one. I've only found reference to it being the prototype and not a production model. I definitly had the top one as despite my young age i remember clearly it having the rounded cab entry and an x04 motor. The lower one was what i received when it went back as it was faulty. I cant believe my local model shop in Grimsby had the actual prototype for sale so can only assume a very small amount of the prototypes went into production. I was always disapointed i didnt keeo the top one as it looked more like the thomas in the books whereas the lower one was modified to look like the tv version
  7. By original Thomas with the wierd face do you mean the very first one with the slight rounder cab and x04 motor? i had one of those but it was faulty. my parents returned him and i recieved the newer one in exchange with the squarer cab that resembles the tv version of Thomas rather than the lbsc E2 he was in the books. They also changed the motor. id love to get my hands on the original one again
  8. I cant help but think that some of those "adverts" have enough accuracy and information in them to have been actually written by a railway enthusiast. ignoring the 47 deltic error
  9. I have to wonder if some of theses sellers are some kind of tax evasion scam. maybe a vat registered ltd company buying items as stock which reduces your tax liabilty and you can then also claim the VAT back. you then put the items for sale at extortionate prices hoping they dont sell. or it could just be someone with an over inflated valuation
  10. Ive noticed recently that if your lazy you can use the automatic AI description creator on ebay. This reads like one of those. I had a laugh with some puzzles i was selling and it came up some similar guff. I actually listed some with the AI as they call it descriptions. strangely the ones with the AI descriptions are getting more bids.
  11. The rarest Thomas item i believe is the original Thomas from the 1st batch. They were mostly faulty so a lot went back including mine. When i got a replacement from Hornby thomas had morphed from the LBSCR E1 0-6-0 he was based on into a more boxey loco as he apeared on TV. Ive never forgiven my parents for doing the right thing and returning my faulty Thomas to Hornby as I much prefer him in original Awdry guise. Id probably get him running now too.
  12. Ah yes a favourite of kit sellers. I bought a couple recently one of a kit thats been out of production for at least 15 years with tarnished etches. Sold as New other. another of more recent vintage but with a couple of parts missing. In both cases i knew exactly what i was getting and bid accordingly. I could see some not realising they are in effect second hand and being disapointed.
  13. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196027164080?hash=item2da42125b0:g:32AAAOSwz8hlKAfR&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4KMQxdZoOh4SjRpizbWr%2FYzcmJ6%2Bm3bmgMM2UDng%2B2nwM2vgSB9xJc3hbW8eHsJBWJgR8c8Ez%2BpjD%2BijuR4zuJjSjkGKo2x%2FDM9vOBOrxWPgbrLX7TOWTak7ZfszM1bbmyWl6jJFClo17N9JAuKihUd6wGjbNH50vaIJZzVki4v8mSdhDUonvl%2BvRYN9hFkmjG2120M2WNnG6J%2BsoTrZYmY2FFnq45CV3zg7TOVMZA48RrtPamOcOZ8IoE%2BTibwiaRMmXNLgG7zwrLYI4NBUpRR%2BcxtlLRMbwmS5D2Vbw6Zh|tkp%3ABk9SR7j6iIXnYgy Rails bargain. I assume its a part built Acme/college models kit and the builder gave up like many do when they get to the valvegear on this particular kit. did well to get that far...
  14. Thats...erm... interesting. I've just played a game of guess the donor. Looks like a lima 87 with the cabs replaced. the cab roof looks like a lima 117 dmu headcode box. it would be ingenious if it didn't look like it at hit something.
  15. haha yes i guess so. one of the other ones thats puzzling me. They have an ACME (shudder) 9f kit for sale. It says complete kit on the description. There's no photos of a tender though... They do have a BR standard tender lsited separatly. I think id go for the Scorpio version for less than they want for the loco minus tender though for both sanity and monetary reasons
  16. My thoughts exactly. although hes not thought it through. if someone does buy the lot for £1234 hes going to pay a lot in fees.... or maybe he doesnt care. confusing
  17. cant work rails out at the minute on the o gauge kits. They have had some good deals and then some stupidly expensive ones. I just made an offer on an ace N1 kit. i got it for considerably less than the asking price which was already lower than what ace sell them for. Then they have this wagon....
  18. Looks like they had a good stock of modern image nameplates to put on theyre southern.... i mean highland locos
  19. this reminds me of mobile phone sales people where they tell you how great the camera is and how stylish the cover is for ages. ok but can i use it as a phone? ....sorry?
  20. I have an old triang A3 which i superdetailed many years ago with a crownline kit. its not up to modern standards but i do have a fondness for it as one of my more succesfull early teenage modelling efforts. the motor has had it and i have looked into replacing it but dont want to do it enough to pay £30.
  21. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266407304775?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=buuPwojBTOq&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=Og_HEg_pSda&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=EMAIL Or buy new for £199 from mr ascough himself..
  22. Has no one else noticed the running number of the 81? i believe tops numbers on 81's only went up to 81022
  23. ive asked for further pictures just out of interest. i also see you can pay by the normal methods (cards Paypal etc). im almost tempted to buy it, pay via ebay and then immediately return it as hes a business seller. a bit petty on my part but would be a lesson to him.... maybe..
  24. As someone who has worked in a drawing office on and off for 25 years, the price isnt the only thing that annoys about this. No its not a schematic! a schematic is a drawing made of of symbols to show the workings of a system and not intended to be a realistic interpretation. These drawings are general arrangement drawings showing plan and elevation views. rant over lol
  25. its a shame hes done that to that as although its basically the original rovex b of b they only made that version in a very small batch and they fetch a fair bit in original condition. i had one and as a teenager ruined it by superdetailing mine. i wish i hadnt now mainly for sentimental reasons
