  1. Yeah, my mistake. I would love to have more MR and LNWR representation in RTR. The Claughtons, the Cauliflowers, pre-rebuild 2P's, and the various Midland 0-6-0 tender engines (specifically with round-topped fireboxes) would be excellent options. The Claughtons in particular would be good to see, especially with their multiple variations (e.g., larger boilers, Caprotti valve gear, etc.).
  2. If we're talking about GWR designs that deserve a decent RTR or even kit option, why not increase the representation of their pre-grouping fleet? An Aberdare 2-6-0, the numerous 2-4-0 tender engines, or the larger 517 genus would be welcome. If we're not counting the City, Star, 43xx, and Dean Goods, we have very little pre-grouping GWR representation in a modern standard.
  3. Thank you, this is all excellent information. Indeed it is best to not think of the numerals as a font but rather as "lettering." First learning about the difference on gwr.co.uk and further examining various photos has demonstrated some level of consistency between the numbers. https://www.flickr.com/photos/29903115@N06/albums/72157676299548238/with/47532358792/ The "3" and 7" generally maintain the different shape, while the "No." looks about the same. As a relative newcomer, I am surprised that such consistency could come out of signwriting. Had transfers been used in the 1900's (1913 being the earliest recorded date of transfers, IIRC), I would assume the shape changeover happened once the GWR eschewed glint/metallic gold for yellow on their buffer beams, which seems reasonable. Similarly, the shape changeover could've happened once transfers replaced signwriting. That would make sense to me. My copy of Great Western Way is due in soon, so I hope it may provide some additional answers regarding my question.
  4. Hello, As a fan of the pre-grouping GWR's designs, one thing that struck me was the markedly different early version of the buffer beam font from about 1906-1910. While the presence of the "No." is the most obvious difference, the "3" has a flat top bar and the "7" has a curve downward as opposed to a straight lower bar. This distinctly different font, to my knowledge, has never been properly presented in transfer sets or on RTR engines. The closest would be the Bachmann City Class, but that font looks woefully inaccurate to the photographs. Has anybody got any further documentation on this font variant?
  5. I preordered a preserved Bluebell, as I am a sucker for unique preservation liveries.
  6. Thanks! I live in the University Park area of Denver, right on the border of Englewood.
  7. Hi, I've really been getting into the model railway hobby over the past year, learning so much as I've gone along. I've been lurking on the site for a while now and figured I should join. My current setup doesn't allow for much of an OO layout beyond "loop of Kato Unitrack on the floor," but it'll be serviceable for what I intend to run and photograph. Regards, BH731
