I’ve done a few bits since last update. It’s not a huge amount, I seem to be struggling to get stuff done in comparison to some of the layouts on here!
The road and car park surface have been given a coat of grey. I had to do this twice actually as for some inexplicable reason the first try I mixed up some black & white paint, painted it on and the next day after it’s dried it was streaked with white lines!? It looked fine when wet but the paint must have somehow not mixed properly. Second try I warmed the paint up and mixed it much more thoroughly and it seemed fine. Never had that before!
The depot area has been given a first coat of concrete yellowish grey, more to do here though, but it’s all roughly the right sort of colour for now.
Then I moved on to the scenic break bridge. I’ve been using Wills brick sheets and plastic card to build up the bridges walls, the tops of which have a plastic card (white bits in the pics) sections added which will form the concrete load bearing sections for the bridges deck. I’ve also made up some similar retaining walls and pillars for the area behind the station where the two low relief tower blocks will go. It’s more or less ready for painting now then can be glued in place.
One other little job I've done in the shed is to get myself a couple of display cabinets. I got these off eBay, and for the price they’re not bad. I wanted them to display my growing collection of 1/43 model cars and military vehicles!
I think they look pretty good. I’d been buying the models for some time but they were all just being left in their boxes dotted around the house not really being seen so with these at least I can have them somewhere I can see them! I’ve separated them into US/Europe cars - just cars I like and ones I’ve owned 1:1 scale versions of or do own now!
The other cabinet is for Soviet Union cars I like and military trucks/vehicles I’ve got an interest in.
Certainly takes the plain-ness off that back wall anyway!
more soon...
Looking forward to another fab update now..

Hi Rich - Thanks for the interest.
Not much has happened on the layout recently although a couple new rolling stock projects are underway.
We do now have the first exhibition confirmed - this will be for Bexhill Model Railway Club on Saturday 8 August at St. Richard’s Catholic College, Ashdown Road, Bexhill-on-Sea, TN40 1SE. It will be great to finally get the layout out and used for it true purpose!
Here are some photos from previous photo shoots,
More top pictures here Big And...
thanks neil..

I tell you what, I have been following this for a while now (this is my first time posting) So very impressive and it just goes to show that even in this day and age of finely detailed models, with all bells and whistles, those Lima models still stand the test of time and are still extremely pleasing on the eye.
Awesome scenics and a lovely setting.
It's a huge thumbs up from me!
Cheers
Anthony
Totally agree with you here Anthony

To start with I have made some new frames for each section of the layout:
Kevin had previously built the layout on 2x1 PSE timber and this has proved solid over time but I wanted the layout sections to sit on their own individual ‘tables’ and then they can be bolted together and removed as initially they will go into the workshop before going into the layout room.
The original Part of the layout being setup in the workshop:
The old Leaford town section will be setup in another room. A deep clean first before anything goes back into place on the layout. I also plan to do a full re-wire as my electronic skills are not great so I want to re-wire To simplify so I can understand the layout electronics as much as I can. I will be switching the current block detection from team digital over to Digikeijs to match my DR5000 base unit.
Stay safe
Rhys

Fixed a some more of the top boards down this morning as well as thinking about exactly how I want to set things up when it comes to scenery, as I’ve mentioned before i thought having a town one side and the station the other looks odd so I thought, how about moving the town over to the other side, I’ve just laid the low relief buildings out to get the feel for it
How about replacing the mill
area with the castle and moving the mill to the new wider bit I have fitted where the castle mock up was, the narrow gauge line could skirt the outer walls?
Along the back wall I’ve opened out the hidden lines into a cutting , the high level line also drops down to ground level, I have looked at putting the yard on the high level but there is only one way in to it from the right hand side of the layout so I think I’m going to drop it onto the lower level board where I can get an entrance/exit each end, I have put the fuel terminal on the high level which I’ll most likely keep there as well as branch line running past it that will start from the current mill area and finish where I mocked up a station on that side a few months back
Looking forward to some videos soon from your layout Jim...

It has been a few days since I have posted but I haven't been idle. Quite the opposite. I am preparing for that task we all love to do - ballasting. Unlike the water it is something that I am comfortable with, albeit still not really looking forward to it. Does anyone?
In preparation I have been doing:
a) a final test and tweak of trackwork, particularly the hand built points. Running over one was a bit less smooth that I wanted but that has been fettled.
b) preparing platforms to be fixed in place.
c) building buffer stops.
The buffer stops were white metal kits obtained from Lanarkshire models. They were easy to put together and IMHO are a good representation of the North British type.
I was aiming for something like this.....
but......
...….. the shade of green is not quite right and for some reason, although mixed from matt paint went on with a semi gloss appearance.
I think everything needs toning down a bit although the sunlight does over emphasise the colours which don't look as bad from 'normal viewing' distance.
very nice weathering on these
