  1. I will try that one more time, but since I've already fiddled with a lot of relevant settings to no benefit, i have my doubts. No harm in trying, of course
  2. I've already offered a couple from TMC for £33 each for other locos so I'll see how they get on
  3. They were bought from warley, and I've not had a problem with the others, i don't believe. They're installed and I'm not certain in which locos, which implies they're working OK.
  4. Update: Having played with the very limited CV options, I've managed to get speed steps 1 and 2 to work as a very slow crawl, but it immediately lurches to medium speed at step 3 regardless of what the curve settings or the acceleration settings are set to. I suspect this one is going in the circular file, followed by an order for a Bachmann decoder, since this is a Bachmann 47 it's for.
  5. I'll double check that, but even at 1/14th of maximum speed it was still way too fast, unless it's capable of scale mach1
  6. Just put this in Sir Gwynedd class 47. On step one it stutters but doesn't really move, on step two it jumps to a scale 40mph and tries to throw itself on the floor. I'll put this one in the 'do not recommend' pile for you...
  7. Ok, so this one feels a bit niche, to say the least. I want to design a simple program to help replicate the challenge of managing operations in a small TMD layout. What I want it to do is to pick a loco from those not already on shed, then generate a random number that signifies, appropriately weighted, whether it needs fuel, inspection, Cat A/B/C/D/E work, or has failed. Then it should remove that loco from the pool, adding it to the 'on shed' side of the list, wait a predetermined amount of time, and repeat until nothing is 'off shed'. Ideally, there'd be an option to move locos back from 'on' to 'off' as they are sent back out for duties, but that's negotiable. The problem is I'm not great with programming of this sort, and I don't really know where to start. Does anyone have any experience with this, or use a similar system themselves? I should clarify that I'm not looking for a program that moves trains, just something that tells the operator where a loco needs to be stabled and for how long. Many thanks
  8. So this is what I've been using. Got four for £50 at the last Warley although they're normally priced higher than that. Are these a disaster zone? Does anyone have any experience with these?
  9. I buy my locos DCC ready, because I'm not particularly fussed about sound. When it comes to fitting decoders for silent running, how much does it matter which ones I choose? In terms of 21pin, is there a minimum standard for silent operation or is the cheapest good enough. If there is one that's markedly better, feel free to point it out for me!
  10. *insert Fry 'shut up and take my money'.gif here* *begins to work on wording on how to explain this to the wife*
  11. Forgive me if this has been covered in the previous 29 pages but does anyone have a problem with frequent derailing over pointwork? Is the detail fouling the bogey? Is there a well known workaround for this problem? Thanks
  12. Agreed, but the biggest concern seems to be that the two are markedly different when parked up adjacent?
  13. A few clearance items at Severn Tunnel Models, looks like a pretty eclectic mix https://severn-tunnel-models.square.site/shop/clearance-bargains/19
  14. So the consensus seems to be that either one is perfectly acceptable but together they look a bit out? That's a shame. Does anyone have a shot of one of each coupled together?
  15. Funny enough I was seriously considering getting two of them, but I can't really justify £425 for the sake of a geeky joke
  16. Been fascinating to catch up on this thread. I love a 47 and reasonably expect to pick up at least one of these in the future, but considering the lukewarm response I might gamble on them to be reduced. I understand the reasons, but seeing these come out at £60 more than the 57 and at the same time as well, it's difficult to swallow. Whilst I do find some criticisms of this model to be a bit harsh, I can understand that when spending what for some people is a week's wages on a model you do have to be perfectly happy with what you're buying. Either way, no budget left this month so I'll keep reading with interest while also coveting the Sir Gwynedd that's currently reduced with Kernow...
  17. Have to say there's a small amount of relief with this delay. Since the deltic is absolutely a rule one purchase as well, and considering the quite daunting list or preorders I seem to have amassed, not having to settle this until after the summer is a bit of a result.
  18. How dare you imply I use inferior technology! 🤣🤣🤣
  19. Morning all Got my 097 the other day after some delays with Rails, and I absolutely love it. Been running it alongside my old Hornby 037 Richard Trevithick and I'm hugely relieved to see that it doesn't completely blow that one out of the water either, since Dickey T is an old favourite of mine I really didn't want to move her on. One question though, and it's probably pretty daft, I noticed that the colours between the two don't match at all. Is this two different eras of livery? Or has the Hornby one become discoloured with age? i have no idea why the uploader is choosing to flip the image over, its the right way up on my phone
  20. No, I emailed and they said the silent fitted version they're having to fit themselves so it's taking a while
  21. So, my grand design (which I'm still plenty of distance away from starting due to lack of space) is as follows. In the 40s/50s the strategic weakness of the dawlish sea wall was identified and alternative plans were made. Concurrently existing lines northbound at that time from St Budeaux and Marsh Mills junctions were both deemed to be too low speed and low capacity, so a new line was laid at great expense along the west edge of Dartmoor, several miles east of the line through Tavistock, but connecting again at Okehampton through to Exeter St Davids. Fastforward to the early 90s, and as British Rail begins to succumb to privatisation, the line is in poor shape. Yelverton Parkway, where the branch line to Tavistock begins, is deeply run down and a shadow of its former self. Dirty, underused DMUs sit lost on the enormous platforms under filthy, broken canopies as freight and express services clatter through on the avoiding lines. This is the picture I want to paint, but is it utterly unrealistic or is it in any way compelling? How much effort would you devote to finding a 'real' station location? Do you have any other miscellaneous advice? Thanks for reading
