  1. hi in reply no i havnt even see one and with situations I.E covid and my health going out to have a try isn't really a option, its the prodigy advanced im looking at there as i say i have been using a dynamis for well oved a decade so no matter which system it will be a new experience with my know how with tec a frustrating one no matter which option.
  2. good evening everyone hope you all had a fantastic christmas. my grandad has shown me his new SLW class 24 and basically i have also decided to buy one and have since found out it has more functions than my dynamis can offer, been the first batch many years ago I'm not surprised i need a upgrade and im now torn between guagemaster and NCE and wish to know others opinions, i am leaning more one way than the other but i will keep it to myself to see what peoples opinions are on this topic?
  3. hi paul, i hadn't realised you where the man so that is a great tick to you're view on controller gunna watch some videos on the nce and see what i think many thanks for the advice you have passed on. cheers liam
  4. thanks that's a massive help, just out of interest the NCE looks a lot like the prodigy and the prodigy is what i had been looking at before the 24 came along, is it the same or just in looks, and would the prodigy be able to handle the 24?
  5. so my grandad let me borrow his condor version to have a look at with the words "i know you don't like Sulzer but don't mind 24's have fun" and passed me a cardboard box, that evening i could do nothing but look at this model and I hate green haha. anyway reading about its functions i realise i cant use in full use because I have dynamis, now i have admitted i now need to get one and will eventually be getting the sound chip at a later date but first to run it on dcc before that time what chip will i need to install and second i was looking at upgrading my controller anyway but now I'm looking at been able to use all functions so what is available, would the guagemaster prodigy work? I'm a little "dumb" when it comes to dcc so need it in basic form haha hope i can get some help cheers
  6. i just came to look myself, not been a steam fan i am very intrested in the koyli one having worked on the napier version but over 300 for sound thinking hard
  7. today has been more a work bench day with the western, dimming the lights abit after some advice from on here and must say quiet happy with the result, cab lights could be a little dimmer but i can live with it now some after shots aswell to compare dosnt look so much like the star ship enterprise.
  8. i was thinking the exact same a R2 would seem tight for that
  9. today has seen ballast go down now drying nicely hopefully get to a stage where i just need to add signals which im waiting for then the test track / simpleton will be done then after me and the family get moved plan the big railway.
  10. top top marks, any chance you could make every other class of loco so it doesn't look like toys against the accurascale models haha.
  11. oh nurse .......... in all fairness though what a time to be alive with model railways when this is the amount of detail you can pack into a loco, just my opinion here but when the Bachmann 37 with sound is only around £20 cheaper with what is going to be made a very out dated model can anyone else see accurascales models quickly taking the top spot for models.
  12. so today the wife gave orders that she wants the table for Christmas so after a day moving our dinning room around we have a railway and a table all be it needing a clear but my health said no so that will be finished this weekend, during a dinner break showing the little lad the finer things in life including bellowing at deltic 2, hard to think how many hours I lay on that engine room floor or crawling about in nose ends ahhhhh happy days
  13. looking at the soldering mentioned i do think these will have to be an investment to make. and wow people have a really diverse range of tools that they like really nice to see.
  14. so excited already have one set on order waiting for a update to commit to the second haha.
  15. is there any update as to the MK5s been having a read on the website and still says the end of november for tooling samples but haven't seen anything, guess I'm just a very inpatient and excited lad wanting to recreate the fire that got me into trains again haha.
  16. looking at the soldering mentioned i do think these will have to be an investment to make
  17. I must admit I really like the concept of it, so if I'm correct it means you would be able to solder wires to the track etc and not cause as much damage to sleeper such as with the conventional methods?
  18. i must say that was a good watch makes me feel like i need one haha.
  19. just had a look at that, what's the difference between that and a normal soldering iron, does look a interesting piece of kit
  20. Hi all so something I see a lot is ways I used to do things is so obsolete now with new methods and tools so a question to you all. on you're work bench, working space what ever you have what are you're go too tools and materials. i have the usual knives screw drivers etc. but i also have a air compressor to air brush base colours on my scenery and for weathering and various other bits and bobs. tools i really like the look of are the ballasting tools, but looking at hats around compared to ten years ago its all a bit mind numbing so what are the go to tools you have what you find a necessity and why?
  21. so i have put up a few posts and i think its time to actually show my little layout (not much to go home about) but first how and why. so as a child i loved modelling, i had a MASSIVE collection on class 37s well over 20 anyway teenage years come along and well women and pubs call and i get rid of it all (silly mistake). well April this year i was diagnosed with RRMS (relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis) and well i must say i never expected my life to change so much so quickly. i had gone from working full time as well as a business building nameplates and headboards some quiet well known to struggling to even get out of bed or walk to the local shop so i needed to fill my time. so lets relive my youth and get a railway built one problem, me and the family are moving to the other side of the country at some point very soon, i have some railway bit bought some stuff from a friend and sourced cheep parts and boom simpleton jct is born the name well look at the layout and put two and two together haha, built to see how i will have to do things with my medical problems and a test/running in line. i will be doing a few more bits just to make it look a bit nicer but until we move it will have to do.
  22. thank you for the reply, love soldering and wiring but have no technical know how so wasn't sure, I will remember that info for future though.
  23. so on my little test layout i have decided to put a few signals on the board including 5 shunting signals, reading i need a 5kohm resistor so decided i have no clue what im looking for so got a mixed bag on well more than ill ever use but looking through them the nearest i have is 5K1 ohm is this ok to use or not im looking at the dcc concepts signals and wanting to wire them dc and not dcc.
  24. thats a good idea maybe have to look into that
