  1. On a more electric subject, here's a proposal for an articulated high-speed train that could have been. It has a peculiar configuration, using 6-wheel bogies between each vehicle, and uses a pair of diesel power cars similar to DVTs in appearance, but using the same Paxman Valenta power units as the HST. The 6-wheel bogies are designed to increase smoothness of riding, in a similar way to the 12-wheel Pullman coaches of days gone by.
  2. A little freelance Hornby-style 0-6-0T, just for some fun.
  3. Back to possible GW tanks, here's a downsized 42xx 0-8-0T.
  4. Veering away from tiny loco/saloon Frankensteins, what if the GWR built a 4-6-0T in similar vein to the 41xx?
  5. Never expected such a detailed set of responses! Thanks all. Also, my mistake on Bug’s wheel arrangement, thanks for the correction. The Egyptian loco is certainly a bit flashy to say the least, and the Hawthorn-style one looks very convincing. As has already been said, good to see the Prototype for Everything department is still in service! Particularly love the William Bridges Adams style loco, looks excellent; valve arrangement is giving off Crampton vibes to me.
  6. Not quite imaginary, but has anyone seen or Photoshopped a locomotive in similar vein to Dugald Drummond's 'Bug' inspection unit from the LSWR? I'm aware of quite a few railmotors, but haven't seen any in a 4-2-2 arrangement excluding the aforementioned loco.
  7. Meanwhile, here's a possible candidate for the Type 1/shunter role - this locomotive was being sold in Japan by Kanto Rail recently and has been given a Hunslet-esque makeover.
  8. I've seen many a YouTube personality talk about this peculiar 'neverwazza', all with great video coverage. Notable ones are: - Dark DJ Productions - Steaming Westward Productions - Angry Welshman Productions
  9. Off the whole ‘international locos in Britain’ thing, here’s my re-re-redesigned Cathedral. Now with a more compacted set of drivers and turned to a 4-8-4.
  10. Going a bit off topic - and maybe sparking a few ideas for IC bits and pieces - is a partially... Colonised? Britainised? Whatever-you-may-call-it F7.
  11. Not exactly a locomotive, but how about a cafeteria MK1 from a WW3 Ambulance train?
  12. Hi all! First timer on this thread. Figured I’d start off with this, a Midland Single in Green.
  13. Hi all! Noticed this thread has been sitting here gathering dust so here’s a few digital renders. First, I imagined that the LSWR ditched their, in my opinion, ghastly bright green - although the alternative wasn’t much of an improvement... Second, the LNER goes back to green with its refurbished HSTs. Finally, the LMS tries on a darker red that in my opinion looks great.
  14. As promised, here’s Palace Mk2! This version has the following changes: - Duchess boiler - Amendment to chassis to a 2-8-2 with larger rear pony truck - Extended County-style splashers - Extended tender sides Any improvements to the design I’ve missed out?
  15. Looks like this has gone from minor amendments to complete redesign! I’m looking forward to this...
  16. That’s an excellent point - I was questioning whether to put that in there. A high-sided tender might do better, I’ll update it tomorrow.
  17. I’m sure some of you have heard of the proposed GWR Cathedral class, so I decided to take it one step further. I present to you, ladies and gentlemen, the Palace class!
  18. Welcome to the team! Prepare to dive down a nearly bottomless pit of alternative histories, design mysteries and 'what-if' paradoxes! Meanwhile, here's a Class 91 with six-wheel motor bogies - maybe it could really do 140 if the infrastructure allowed.
  19. For inspiration for those robotic railway workers, see Doctor Who ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’!
  20. In recent times I’ve noticed my old Hornby 0-4-0, which sits in a drawer with the couplings and buffers sawn off by my little brother, runs incredibly. It’s reliable, never falters on points, and - somehow - has the ability to go slow! One day it turned from a Pocket Rocket to a beauty of a runner in the space of a second (spooky!) and I have no idea how, but I don’t want to let the chassis go to waste. Any imaginary ideas for a possible use for it?
  21. Remember the BR MLVs used for the Southern region? What if the SR pursued the concept a bit earlier on to assist on the boat trains? Apologies for the edit quality (rushed it a bit) but I thought it was an interesting concept.
  22. Based on my earlier point, here’s an articulated set of ‘Seacow’ hoppers to showcase the basic idea.
  23. Based on the discussions about moving on to RCT hoppers, what if, in BR days, articulated sets were built? Each could be a 30T hopper using articulated bogies to make a set of 5, capable of transferring 150T per set. While the infrastructure needed would be rather expensive it could work well in areas like Immingham where coal traffic was prosperous.
  24. Precisely what I was going for - just using an articulated bogie for size reduction (British loading gauge is far too restrictive sometimes!)
  25. Conversation-starter - how about an articulated Class 90-style freight locomotive, akin to many international designs used today? A Class 94 of sorts?
