  1. They do have buses in Edinburgh! A day ticket costs £4.50 for as many journeys as you want and a 36 would have taken you up the Queensferry Road through the West End an on to the delights that can be found in the Lothian Road and beyond. The Cloisters in Brougham Street just off Tollcross is a well stocked watering hole before you go further up the road to take on the badlands of Morningside. Charlie
  2. Tigers will have to be at the very top of their game to go through against Leinster (but good luck to them!). It’s a shame they are not joined by Harlequins in the quarter finals, something the clowns that write for the Sunday Times pin on Marcus Smith but was really down to the unnecessary penalty Quins conceded at the end of the previous leg. Charlie
  3. Nowhere does the article mention suffient cycle spaces nor does it state that these spaces would not be cluttered up with luggage and other impedimenta such as buggies and prams. Charlie
  4. A vicar's daughter would never have a car registration like that. According to documentary I stumbled upon a week or so back it was the other one, Mary, who once opened a certain shop in London which had more visitors from the Met than paying customers. Charlie
  5. Not many people notice that Eddie Jones has a 100% record in losing RWC finals. Charlie
  6. Leicester are doing OK without him!
  7. Sounds like sour grapes from the top end of the M69. Bad luck for Leicester that Wasps decided to be stubborn, and it was hardly the ref’s fault that the Tigers played a quarter of the match a man down due to a blatant professional foul and an unwarranted punch aimed at the head. Charlie
  8. If memories of names and faces still holds, the subject of this stirring film went on to fly that mighty rocket ship the C130 (and at least would have featured Bugis Street in his operational training). Charlie
  9. Palermo. Preferable to the other destination! Charlie
  10. It happened some years ago but England was the first of the home nations to sell out by putting their autumn internationals behind a paywall. Charlie
  11. And for scoring three tries!!! Charlie

A happy ending for Big Ginge! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-59322766 Charlie
  13. All this activity is a week early as Stir Up Sunday is actually next Sunday, 21 November! Charlie
  14. The line societies do hold records of employees of the various railway companies. Not sure if that extends to tramlines. Charlie
  15. It could be Boscombe Down! Charlie
  16. The wearing of masks indoors is still mandatory in Scotland! Charlie
  17. Gibson 7mm wheels were recommended to me for working with the Exactoscale arrangement. Of course that only applies to FS and for S7 it has to be Slaters. I open out the parallel bearings with a 1.85mm drill for the wheels to run and use 2 10BA washers on both ends to take out side play. The axles should be shortened by removing the pinpoint bearings. Charlie
  18. The M1 would still be closed if it had been a 747 at Kegworth! The rough little beastie was a 737. Charlie
  19. Your drawing seems to indicate to me that Slaters hornblocks would work! OK there are bits overhanging but they are not intrinsic to the functioning of the blocks themselves and the extra can be trimmed back. A new method of attaching the keeper would be required but that could simply be a strip of metal soldered across the bottom of the hornguides. Charlie
  20. I have mused on this without putting anything into effect. The 4mm axlebox which looks as though it has some potential is this Brassmasters one http://www.brassmasters.co.uk/Axleboxes.htm. The diagram shows that there is enough metal to (gently!) ream out the bearing hole to 3/16". It may be kinder to replace the 3/16" axle with 5/32" axles also available from Slaters. My musings ground to halt as I could not find a suitable 5/32" gear wheel to drive the axle unless a 1/8" one was reamed out. I would be interested to hear how you get on. Charlie
  21. This tale from the Falklands Campaign is total nonsense. I believe the story stems from the aftermath of the loss of the Atlantic Conveyor when the survivors took to the rafts. Sadly those who boarded were not trained in the principles of sea survival and took the stated capacity stencilled on the inside as an absolute maximum. They were not to know there is a permitted safe overload and should have let survivors in the water board rather than tell them to go away and find a raft that had not reached capacity. The rumour has it that the Master of Atlantic Conveyer (who perished) was one of those unfortunates in the water who was told to move along. I find the previous 2 posts and their endorsements are unwarranted slur on the RN. Charlie
  22. I believe the Lions v Japan game is due to be broadcast on free to view terrestrial TV (Channel 4 or 5). I’m saving up for my month’s sports pass to see the rest. Charlie
  23. You don't have to look much further than here! Charlie
