Happy Christmas - Modelling is for the other 364 days! Charlie

Not true! Although a long time ago I was told that is the case in Germany. I have a Raleigh Motus and where necessary book it to take with me on trains. It fits into those dreadful cupboards on those Hitachi ICE/Azumas where everything struggles to fit. The most stringent regulations were to take the bike on the Caledonian Sleeper but it complied and fitted. Charlie

Go for it! I write as a happy rider for many years. I use mine for my weekly commute in summer. Also it is invaluable for accessing the rail network by making the 5 mile journey to my nearest railhead. Therefore my bike has gone all over the country usually by crossing London from Paddington to KX. The bike is a favoured means of transport to social functions as I can relax about drink/drive laws 😀 I would take the sound advice about finding a good dealer. The best bikes have a Bosch motor on the crank. I am considering replacing mine and due to anno domine am thinking at getting a step through. One reaches a point where I have difficulty getting my leg over 😩 The downside is expect to pay up to £3000 for a good one. Charlie

There is cheap shot here. Dixon’s medals are British Empire Medal, Defence Medal, Long Service Medal (Police). All quite appropriate to character. Charlie

Neglect France at your peril! I thought last weekend that their disposal of South Africa produced one of the most memorable and epic titanic contests I have ever seen. Also the French crowd at Marseilles were immense and partisan and I doubt we will see anything approaching the like from the upcoming snooze fest in Qatar. I am still scratching my head about the final 20 minutes at Twickenham yesterday wondering whether it was done because of Eddie Jones or in spite of him. My view is that there is too much Polynesian baggage in the English team. Tuilagi ought to be consigned to history especially if referees start reversing penalties because of his childish antics with the forwards when one is awarded to England. Commentators rave about Billy Vinupola’s metres made but Rugby is not American Football, and he does little to open out a game. Marcus Smith is a talent but England should examine how Harlequins bring out the best in him by giving him a No8 and inside centre with whom he can create his play making options. Charlie

Isn't the knowing cost of everything and value of nothing the definition of accountants (another dubious invention)? Charlie

Acceptable standards at exhibitions
Lochgorm replied to The Johnster's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
It is what he is doing with his left hand that concerns me more. I am not sure that JRM would be seen dead in tweeds. Anyway as Jeeves would advise you a top hat is not appropriate headgear for a tweed suit which requires a flat cap or deerstalker to set it off. Charlie -
Mike appears to use Slaters wheels and bearings which are pinpoint. Other 7mm scale suppliers (Gibson, Hayward and Peartree) use parallel bearings but only Peartree produce a limited range in S7. Charlie

Isn’t this excellent post a suitable point to bring this dreary and circular topic to an end before it attracts anymore flak from Hipposhire? Charlie -
Isn’t anarchy supposed to be the whole point about the Mad Max series? Charlie

I am afraid neither are as funny as the original Julie Andrews Dirty Songbook from I’m Sorry, I’ll Read That Again some 55years ago:

Tut tut dear boy, surely one as well versed in military justice (an oxymoron?) as yourself should know that the plural is Courts Martial! Charlie

Not quite sure if you are inferring that some photo trickery has taken place here but I can assure you that the photo was taken from a Hercules during a formation trip from Boscombe Down to Hatfield in 1991.
