  1. Being a Hippo isn't complaining about 'fresh country air' a bit like calling a kettle black.
  2. No accounting for taste.
  3. Oh we're not that behind the times here in Manutopea. We have that new fangled invention eletrickery now and now that they've miniaturised the valves for the radiogram we'll going to have one in every room.
  4. I think I preferred the pigs.
  5. I hope you got a nice bono biscuit and a fresh bowl of water afterwards.
  6. Fortunately it wasn't them. Stop using them when it took them four attempts to test my eyes- took them six months to repair/find an operator for a piece of equipment. Now go direct to a chap who grinds the lenses. Saved a fortune in not having to buy 'designer' frames each time.
  7. Clearly before my time as when I attended they were green with purple lettering, but I suppose each generation likes to discover 'old things' either that or there was an offer on for green labels.
  8. Personal experience or you know someone whose second cousin was on talking terms with the janitorial staff at the said establishment?
  9. The same is often said, why are they paid that much, about people who empty bins, sweep the roads etc, but when it's suggested that perhaps they should have a go themselves they suddenly have to be somewhere else. I recall a reality television program, this is some years ago, where it was set in a cul-de-sac and the inhabitants were tasked with doing various 'community jobs' i.e emptying the bins, clearing the drains etc. Anyway it didn't last long as no one wanted to get there hands mucky the bins didn't get emptied, the drains backed up and so on.
  10. Nothing quite like a bit of self righteous indignation to make the time pass swimmingly.
  11. There's being economical with the truth my dear Bear then there's being economical with the Truth.
  12. Well it is a 'model' farm. What more would you expect than to be at the forefront of good agricultural practice.
  13. Were you 'offered' an 'inducement' (cakes I believe fall into this classification) to do that or was it an order? Concerned of Manutopea
  14. Well you know Mother Nature when she hits on a winning formula why change something that clearly works. Genetics where would we be without it.
  15. I'm afraid so. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that Manutopea has a mayor and he made the case, along with the 'professionals' for the budget to be devolved down to the regional level rather than it being left in Whitehall. But I might be wrong.
  16. Well you can either say; that explains a lot or that they were very progressive long ago. I'll leave you to decide.
  17. One of things that has changed since Manutopea went U.D.I in terms of health provision- in essence the social care & health budgets have been combined in an attempt to stop repetition of some of the bureaucracy. This has resulted things like audiology being out sourced to the private sector. Something which if you think about makes quite a bit of sense. Anyway when I went I was seen by a firm of opticians who also do hearing tests etc. Prior to this it had been in an NHS centre come library. My existing aids, NHS ones were replaced, but there were others available. The wait was about three to four weeks from requesting it so quite fast.
  18. Clear evidence of the North/South divide that. Preferential treatment obviously.
  19. Yes but if I 'borrow' them, when I'm investigated for 'damaging' council property the 'thought police' won't be able to accuse me of going equipped as I'll be able to say I 'found' them. Plus of course they'll be 'assisting' with rodent control by then.
  20. Oh hands off. I asked first. Once I've done chopping hasps your welcome to them.
  21. If only that was possible Bear but the devious, so and so's - over words are available, padlock the sodding things open don't they. If only I had a battery angle grinder.
  22. Oh you must be special as when I had it done I got to sit in a dimly lit cubicle with the rather attractive audiologist. I then had to have an appointment to check my eyes.
  23. But not necessarily in the same direction or the same size.
