What colour(s) did you use?...and did you apply to a wet or dry surface?
Chris
Sky blue for the fade but it's about how thinly you spread it. It later had a very very thin layer of an earth color over all that to bring it down a little. The rest was done with a selection of rust and earth colors ( they sell packs of rust and earth color selections ).

total 40You have made a great job of modelling the junction , I've the pools for the BAA and BBA wagons somewhere , will post when I find them , again great location and modelling, that I hope to model myself one day.,
Thanks Barrie. My friend Geoff Hankin has kindly lent me his spotting notes from the 80s/90s . He worked close by at the time and kept a note of what he saw. Also some useful pictures he's shared with me. I think it was one of yours I saw recently (now gone from this site I think) of a BBA with cradles you had made, that too looked very nice. I was thinking about doing some myself but it looks like Cavalex will be producing some RTR...

After painting and weathering with dry brushing and washes I added some decals. These are obviously bespoke and were designed and printed from my spec by 4D models. They are dry rub transfers not water slide and were not cheap but look so much better. I will give them all a coat of matt coat to make sure it all stays put.

The Illmenite wagons are progressing, now at the stage of weathering them. I had brush painted the chassis after spraying them all grey and I'm using dry brushing and washes with a small brush to do the weathering. Some have already been fitted with magnetic couplings and test run. only the lead wagon has a conventional coupling for the loco.

Is this your personal layout or shall we be seeing it pop up at any shows.
As posted on the Immingham area group a really well present layout.
This one isn't portable, I did think about it but opted just to have it permanant in the spare room.

With the beams all in place some plates were added where the bearings will sit on top of the legs. On top of the road deck strips of cork underlay were put down to create the foot paths and central reservation. With all major structural elements now firmly in place the whole thing got painted. The grey was from the same rattle can I did the legs with, the roadway and girders brush painted with appropriate colours.

The next task in creating the span was the girders that support the deck. Plastruct, Evergreen and the like produce nothing at all large enough for these so I bought large plastic strips from a hardware store and then added styrene strips to create the I beam profile. A total of eight of these were produced then super glued strait onto the underside of the deck. I did wonder if there would be trouble with them coming off with the least knock to the span but they've proved to be very durable.

Hi again Barrie,
Yes I certainly would be interested in any more specific info on steel trafic here that you have. I have finally made a start on the project. I made the models of the signalbox and cleveland bridge a while back the boxes at the other end are where the A180 will be, the scenic area will be between these two natural scenic breaks. Have the up/down - Light railway/Union dock branch done as inner and outer circuits. Siding will follow as third outside road with a loop along the back and another siding cuved round the end nearest the camera. More storage sidings on the inside edge of the fiddle yard for shorter trains leaving via marsh junction and those on union dock.
Regards Paul.

I've been looking at this as a potential to model myself recently. Interested to know if you ever built this? The above info on steel traffic very useful in addition to what I'd already managed to gleen.

I find this site very usefull and enjoy seeing the work of other modelers. Most users are pretty cool. i any walk of life you meet the odd jerk, just ignore them. Why should it stop you doing what you enjoy?

Very nice looking over all result. My only attempts with a lining pen were on my two SM32 live steam locos. They are much bigger of course and more forgiving than a 4mm model and I kept it very simple. The results were not professional to my eye but look ok. These things take some mastering for sure and I'm from a fine art background!
