  4. Always helpful to see which bit may have gone 'ping'!
  5. "The line opened for operations from 10 April 1863. It was worked by typical CR motive power of 0-6-0 and GWR 2301 Class "Dean Goods" up till the mid-1950s after which Ivatt Class 2 locomotives of the 46503–46527 series were almost exclusively used. Operations on the line were controlled by signal boxes at: Llanymynech; Llansantffraid; and Llanfyllin."
  6. Wondered about Cambrian 0-6-0s, but suspect this is a GWR Dean Goods.

  11. Just discovered Dirty Down products - weathering and ageing for movie special effects. Has anyone tried these for model weathering? https://dirtydown.co.uk/product-category/ageing-spray-range/ "For customers who use our products on models, it may be of interest to know that Dirty Down ageing spray is the same product as the old Modelmates weathering spray. Dirty Down rust effect is the same as the old Modelmates rust effect liquid / water soluble paint." http://magieminiatures.com/2014/06/review-modelmates-weathering-ageing/
  12. If I recall, a rail-served coalyard (Corrall's) survived at Totton (near Southampton) into the 1990s? (Posted 2010) "Totton has a small set of sidings just west of the station/level crossings with 4 lines (use to be 7), this has not been used properly for around 18-20 years as the last trains in there were for the coal yard with a 56 or 37 down on a weekly bases dropping coal off, ..."

  14. Ten years ago I was studying the present day landscape of the Kington (GWR) branch in Herefordshire. The line of the former railway to the east of the Kington station site was marked by a row of mature, broadleaf trees. It appeared that these trees related to the hedges that had flanked the railway, left to their own devices for fifty years!

  16. An attempt at a Johnson 2F?
  17. The leading clerestory could indeed be a 4/6w - full brake or brake [van] third?
  18. The car in front of the locomotive seems to be equipped with a white panel on its rear (centre of the spare wheel?). Might this white panel releate to driving in the wartime blackout?
  19. A little detail that bothers me a little bit: where is the signal box? At Blue Anchor the signal box is located very close to the level crossing. Is the box missing, or should I go to Specsavers?? 😎
  20. 1930s cars tended to be quite long lived. Later 1940s??
