Stored class 90. Whilst Western Lady was tatty in my last post 90031 takes things to a new level. Based on the actual loco festering at Crewe here’s mouldy 031
All enamel paints used apart from the windows which were water based AK weathering pencils so I didn’t damage the glazing. Couple more pics:-
At the other end of the scale a nice what if commission 128 parcels in RES livery,
The large slab sides were very similar to doing a 47 so nice to paintand finally from the other end,
A few more weathering jobs on the go so they’ll be my next update!

Well the whole of April has passed and I haven’t managed an update 🥲 so here goes:- The 66s and tanks that were in the last entry in thethread are now back home with @SouthernMafia so thanks Rich for the pic:
The Network rail bubble and what if MLV are also finished;
Sticking with DMUs the Kernow chocolate and cream 117 was reworked into its Tyesley state:-
And a bit of weathering,
A renumber of original GBRF 66 into 713
and a Dapol 59 with a new identity and weathering,I’m still working on the back catalogue so there’s more to come!!

Following on from my last post the 66 has had its gold bands replaced with a taller strip so the decals sit properly in the band when compared to the previous pic of it with 724
The 121 and MLV have had their network rail yellow;
and staying with NR yellow these vitrains 37s are having some weathering,
last up a sort of what if - a standard 73 going into sleeper livery;

Quick update from the workbench, more backlog clearance underway! First up a 121 and MLV in primer before going into Network Rail colours;
Hattons 66’s having a renumber, 724 is fine but the gold band isn’t wide enough on the EWS livery.
so masked and ready for respray
I like something different so a repair job next, this HST had a scratch in the cab roof and also had a bit of overspray to sort out (not guilty on either!)
I contemplated respraying the roof but was worried about a match so filled the scratch and then used yellow paints and micro mesh to flatten and repolished, overspray sorted and cab windows realigned - satisfying job;
Another different one was this NIU models 3D printed ammunition truck, camouflaged to match the boche buster rail gun by Oxford models,
and finally the debranded Colas 60

Fantastic work as ever. Although I do get Shakin' Stevens stuck in my head every time you do one with a Green Door.
Showing my age!
Rich
I can only apologise for the outbreak of Shakin’ Stevens, hope it’s only temporary!! Cheers Jerry

Loving your work @Squirrel Rail, those 90's look superb! Apologies if I've missed it somewhere but what paint do you use for the warning panel yellow, I'm looking at respraying a class 47 into 80's blue?
Many thanks.
Normally I use Phoenix Precision as it’s enamel with a drop of Humbrol /Revell yellow to get a particular shade, hope that helps, cheers Jerry

and a close up,
The other 90 is the battered 90015 with all its patches, This was a full respray and then the weathering,

Sorry to here about your father in law, my condolences.
I must say your 158 really looks good in original ATW colours - you have done a great job on it, the weathering looks great too and as you say brings out the detail brilliantly. Surprised Bachmann have not done one in this livery yet...
Thanks for your thoughts, appreciated. Bachmann just announced they are doing an Arriva 158 and I thought ahhhh noooo but luckily it’s the blue and blue version of the livery not the cream/blue my customer wanted- I suppose as they did the old 158 in it they steered clear- phew 😅

The Arriva 158 is now done so a couple of pics,
light weathering on these shows. Off the detail of the new model well, decals are from John at Precision.
Other weathering jobs include 47245,
and another Anglia 90, this time de-branded 90012
I was hoping to get back to regular updates but haven’t had much modelling time at present as my father in law passed away so back sorting everything that goes with it…..

Great work mate… TEA’s look spot on.
I look forward to seeing the 158 finished, always wanted to see how that version of arriva sat on the newer tooled 158 from Bachmann…
I had a load of good reference pics from their owner which helped, photos don’t really do them justice. Held my breath on the recent Bachmann announcement- they’ve done Arriva but not the blue and cream livery - phew!!!

First time I've heard it referred to as blue. Guess it's a blueish silver. Gorgeous work as always!
Just checked the tin and it’s called silver blue!

They are looking good, what colours have you used?
There’s quite a few colours in there, using Phoenix sleeper grime as a base colour then different shades of this using dark rust and roof dirt to add variation. Then I’ve used a mix with light rust for the lighter shades. It’s just a process of lots of thin layers to build the colours. Hope that helps, cheers Jerry

More Anglia Class 90s from the last few days, two in the white and grey
and a new livery for me the short lived National Express metallic blue and white with the blue on first,
and a closer view, it’s quite thick pigment but is actually quite smooth!

Cavalex TEA wagons next up for weathering. A great model but as you will see in the pics the buffer heads have a lemming like urge to hurl themselves elsewhere as have a couple of ladders! Weathering starts with a wash to take the shine off,
Then slowly adding the first shades
cleaning some patches….
before second round of airbrush…
and then left to harden off for a couple of days.
I’m doing 9 in this take so will post some more pictures as they come along.

if your wanting a bit of variety have a look at 011-8 in this screen grab from youtube, this is one of the ones I'm going to be doing. its probably picked up a bit of grim now and has the extra strapping points but it adds a nice contrast between the work worn examples. Might look for a stronged super glue as it was just the usual supermarket Loctite stuff I had used
Nice pic - I’ll keep that in mind if I get more to do- great with the new paint and the old makes a nice contrast!
